The publisher would like to thank everyone for the kindness with which he was received, both in Portugal and in Japan.

We are deeply grateful for the trust, the exclusive materials provided, and for the access to the full project in CAD. All members of House Details are architects with over 25 years of project experience.

This is a book with fantastic, exclusive content, about a work by Kengo Kuma, that represents Portugal. Every possible question was asked, so that readers could properly evaluate the project. With generosity and patience, every question was answered (three interviews in total).

👍The mission of this book is to reveal the characteristics of a symbolic architectural work that represents Portugal, allowing readers to assess it with full awareness and understanding.

💫We are grateful for the opportunity to produce this book, as well as for the exclusive access we were granted to nearly 100% of the content. We sincerely thank all those involved, both in Portugal and in Japan, for the kindness and generosity with which we were always received.

💫Architect Andrea Toccolini, the project director, holds a Master’s degree in Architecture obtained in Portugal, where he began his professional career. He speaks perfect Portuguese and has a deep understanding of the country’s culture. Rita, a partner at Kengo Kuma and Associates, is Portuguese.

💫Architect Kengo Kuma, the author of the project, expresses in his written contribution—reproduced in the book—his deep respect for Portugal, conveyed through unusually strong and moving words. The interview he granted us was far from easy, and once again underscores the tribute he pays to our country, the respect he holds for it, and his clear intention to build bridges of friendship between Portugal and Japan.

👉For our part, we sought to ask the questions we believe readers—especially Portuguese readers—would most want to pose about the architectural project. Kengo Kuma responded to all of them with generosity and patience.The same spirit guided the interviews with the Project Director and the Partner at the studio. We applied the same principle in the selection of technical drawings and other content.

A publishing house, with Humility, asked us for permission to use literally some of the expressions we’ve been using for many years to express our gratitude to Siza. These expressions are now widely published in books, magazines and other content. We promptly said yes.👌

As for the expression "great generosity" in reference to Siza, it appears consistently in all acknowledgements texts, in every editorial of every book or magazine we have produced, and in over 100 videos we’ve created about the Master. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Many years ago, when we first started using these expressions, we were harshly criticised – people claimed we were simply trying to gain favour with the great Master.

32 architects from 15 countries, aged between 22 and 95, courageously responded to this challenge: to write a text about what love is to them.

Bravely and generously, they agreed to open themselves up so that the book could be useful and get to you.
Some approached the issue from a romantic and intense perspective, while others adopted a theoretical or poetic point of view.

There were also those who chose to make public some of the most important lessons they have learnt throughout their lives.

👉A unique publication (English./Port.) about the Pritzker prize winning architect Eduardo Souto de Moura.

👉House Details produces the most complete publications ever made worldwide about houses.

👉Drawings on a 1/1 scale (first time about a Pritzker).

👉Hundreds of technical drawings (always to scale, not with "scale to fit or graphic scales), mostly details.

👉Includes large double-page details over half a meter in length, hand-made technical drawings (first built version of the house) as opposed to those of Autocad (built version of 2018)

👉Detailed photographs with graphic explanation given by the editor on the architect's methodology.

👉It is the first time that more than 95% of the drawings are published.

👉Like the previous issues, this magazine is the result of a complex, detailed and exhaustive work, due to the great concern that everything has to be understood by the reader.

👉Large format, 30cm x 30cm, among many others characteristics. After 12 months of a very deep work, we present an extensive and exhaustive document of analysis and comparison between the house built in 1989 and the refurbishment and expansion of 2018, designed by one of the Portuguese Pritzkers.

As with the first edition, House Details is making €5,000 available for scholarships for working students.

Since it was founded, House Details has donated a very substantial part of its profits (which, of course, does not include the sums earmarked for publishing, re-editing and publisher's production expenses) to various initiatives of a social nature, without resorting to sponsorship for these purposes, so please only apply if you are facing financial difficulties.

If you know someone who meets the conditions for applying, please pass on the content of this email to them.

° We cannot accept cases where, for example, people want the scholarship so that when they finish the course they can use the money "to travel" or "to rent a bigger house" (requests that have been made to us).

° Please send a detailed description of your situation to [email protected].

° A meeting will be arranged, either in person or by other means. Please don't apply by falsifying data, all of which is checked thoroughly, because for us the amount is very considerable.

° Documentation will only be requested after the meeting.

° ATTENTION: Please do not send anything to the above-mentioned email address after the application period, as it was created for this purpose only and will not be checked again. For any urgent matters, please contact us through the normal channels.

° There is no fixed amount per grant. A maximum of 10 may be awarded, but each case will be given an amount corresponding to the need of each individual, compared to the other candidates.

° Deadline for applications: 30 June 2024

° In justified social situations, House Details may award partial amounts, before the application deadline, up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the total amount allocated to the scholarships.
