Tonguas Magazine Informational page for UPRRP's student literary and artistic expression magazine, Tonguas.

Tonguas is a literary journal edited as part of ENGL 3037-The Role of the Literary Magazine in Contemporary Literary Production. Although it originated in the English Department of the Humanities Faculty of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, participants include students from all faculties and writers from the larger community. The title “Tonguas” combines “tongues” and “lenguas,” indicat

ing the open, multilingual, and inclusive nature of the group’s activities, “idiomas,” and aesthetics. Tonguas begins with the premise that Spanish is at the heart of Puerto Rican identity.

Tonguas invites you to the book launch of professor José R. Rivera Belaval’s poetry collection titled Recetario. The event will be a conversation between the profesor and the special guests Adriana Valeria Rivera Pérez (Glosario) and Polette Rubí Medina Cintrón (Espiral). They will discuss their writing process, inspiration, publication process as well as share some of their work with the audience.

For those attending, there will be a space for other writers in the audience to share their work such as poetry, short stories and drawings!

Hello from Tonguas! This year we will be working on a new volume of the magazine. Here are some past works by four artists published in volume 3 from May 2004. The writers and artist are: Tatiana González, Edwin Hernández, Ileana Díaz (drawing accompanied by “Caribbean Song” short story), and Juan Carlos López.
