Saadiyat Beach Club, Abu Dhabi.
Back in October I went to Dubai for a few days to visit Nigel and Kristina and get some sunshine and warmth before the British winter. We went to various bars and restaurants, but one of my favourite days was when we drove down to Abu Dhabi in Nigel’s fancy new Porsche (they are living the LIFE out there) to Abu Dhabi to spend the day at Saadiyat Beach Club. I’ve been to Dubai a few times now to visit Nige and Kristina, and written about my favourite bars and clubs, and my perfect 48 hour guide to Dubai before, so I didn’t want to go overboard on the Dubai content. But I did want to tell you all about Saadiyat Beach Club, and I also have an exciting restaurant review coming up for you all!

Visiting Saadiyat Beach Club
You may remember that three years ago I visited nearby Zaya Nurai Island and absolutely LOVED it, so Saadiyat Beach Club had a lot to live up to. We arrived in Abu Dhabi just before lunchtime and paid the Saadiyat day pass fee of AED 375 each. Unlike Zaya Nurai, the Saadiyat Beach Club day pass fee isn’t a minimum spend that you can use for the restaurants and bars. At Saadiyat you have to pay on top of the day pass fee for food and drink, which makes it much pricier than Zaya Nurai. Anyway, we went and got changed and then headed out to the pool to find sunbeds.

We were pretty hungry so I ordered sushi while Nige and Kristina ordered burgers. I also had a lychee cocktail which was DELISH and made me very happy.

We spent a couple of hours sunbathing and chilling by the pool at Saadiyat, staring up at the palm trees and clear blue skies, and then decided to head down to the beach part of the beach club.

The beach at Saadiyat Beach Club reminded me of the beaches in Western Australia – it had soft powdery white sand and clear blue water that was so warm it felt like a bath! The water was actually too hot after a while, and with the 36 degree celsius outside temperature I desperately needed some water that was actually refreshing, so I headed back to the swimming pool.

Later in the afternoon they had a saxophone player playing by the poolside, which I absolutely loved! The music actually was one of my favourite things about Saadiyat Beach Club – it gave it a very chilled out vibe and atmosphere. As well as the music the architecture and art around the pool was really cool. We stayed at Saadiyat beach Club until the sunset, and then spent some time in the spa area inside (they have a sauna, steam room, whirlpool bath, and an iced plunge pool in both the men’s and women’s changing areas). Before we knew it, it was time to head back to Dubai for a final dinner before I flew early the next morning.

Saadiyat Beach Club is a great place to spend a day if you want to stay on the mainland or don’t have an entire day and don’t mind the price. It’s also a good choice if you go on a weekday or ladies day when it’s *much* cheaper. But honestly if you want a beach club on the weekend, Zaya Nurai is FAR more impressive and works out much cheaper than Saadiyat, so I would recommend Zaya Nurai over Saadiyat!

Sunset Postcards from Dalaman, Turkey.
I got so many photos in Turkey that I couldn’t fit them all into my mega post about my stay at Hillside Beach Club, so I wanted to do a little photo diary style post with a bunch of my favourite sunset photos from all of the beautiful sunsets I saw at Hillside! This is basically just a ‘look at the pretty pictures’ post, haha. But I hope it gives you a little inspiration and makes you consider the Dalaman coast for your next holiday destination, as it really is such an incredible place, super relaxing, and I’m already desperate to go back!

I mean, just the above photo is enough to make you want to jump on a plane and fly right there, right?

Luxury in 48 Hours: Sydney, Australia.
Sydney is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I lived there for 18 months, and although there are a whole bunch of blog posts on here about different things I did and ate during my time there, I thought it would be useful to put together a quick 48 hour guide for those who may only be in Sydney for a short time. Sydney is one of those cities that people tend to just stop off in for 2-4 days unless they have family or friends there. Australia is such a big place and so varied, that you really need to make the most of it, so staying in a city for just a couple of nights to get a flavour of it makes total sense.

This guide is definitely more for people who have never been to Sydney before and only have a short amount of time to see the city. I’m planning on doing a separate ‘locals’ guide in the next few months for those who are staying in Sydney for a longer period of time, and have done the main sights and want to do more unusual things in the cute suburbs. So if that second post sounds more like your thang, feel free to follow me on Twitter or bookmark my blog to get notified as soon as that one goes live!

Day of Arrival
Check in at: Langham Hotel, Sydney

I’m going to assume you are arriving around midday, so go check in at the beautiful Langham Hotel Sydney, get yourself freshened up, and then head out to Darling Harbour to the Chinese Gardens of Friendship to stretch your legs after your journey!

Spend an hour wandering around the gardens, and then walk up to the Sydney Observatory for some incredible views over the harbour bridge. If you arrive earlier in the day and are looking for somewhere for lunch, Bea at Barangaroo House is fab (and their rooftop bar, Smoke, is just the floor above) and very close to the Chinese Gardens of Friendship and Darling Harbour! They serve a very Australian menu (including Kangaroo steak), and there’s this gorge view over the water…

Now, you want to go for a drink at Opera Bar to soak up the atmosphere and view (and hello! photo opportunity!), and then walk just a few meters back towards the city to the Pullman Hotel right on Circular Quay.

Inside the Pullman is the incredible Hacienda, a gorgeous restaurant with delicious food and cocktails, and another fabulous view over the harbour bridge and opera house! Make sure you don’t have dessert though – you need to save yourself for a scoop (or three) of Gelato Messina on the way back to your hotel. My fave flavours are the Pear & Rhubarb, Apple Crumble, and Fig & Amaretti (I adore really sweet flavours).

Day 1 in Sydney – The City
One of my favourite foodie areas in Sydney is Surry Hills, which is where my old office is located. My favourite breakfast in the area is at Blacksmith in Surry Hills, right opposite Prince Alfred Park. They do such an incredible selection of Aussie dishes and the cafe itself is very trendy and instagrammable.

After breakfast either walk or get the train from Central Station one-stop up to Museum Station, which is one of the oldest stations in Sydney. It feels very ‘London’, and has lots of old advertisements and all of the signs are original. From there, walk up the long pathway through the middle of Hyde Park until you get to the fountain, and then turn left and keep going across the road.
Keep walking until you get to the pedestrianized Pitt Street, and then walk up the street towards St Martin’s Place. Make sure you look up – the streets around here are filled with old buildings and it actually feels very European! Walk from Pitt Street over to the Royal Botanical Gardens and grab lunch at the cafe there. It really is the prettiest setting, and they do the very best Iced Chocolate’s in Sydney. And make sure you don’t miss the Calyx flower wall!

After lunch wander through the gardens and round to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair for one of the best views over the city. It’s generally pretty quiet round here – usually just filled with lots of runners on their lunch breaks – and the perfect spot for those souvenir photos.

If the sun is out jump in a taxi or Uber to Nielson Park in Vaucluse, which is where Shark Beach is located. This is one of my favourite beaches in Sydney and is very safe and great for swimming. The harbour beaches are much better for swimming than the ocean beaches due to the flat waters – the ocean beaches are always very choppy with fairly big waves. Also as the name of the beach suggests, it actually has a shark net because of the huge amount of Bull Sharks in Sydney Harbour. Swim within the net and you’ll be just fine though!

After spending the afternoon on the beach jump back into an uber and head backt to The Langham to get changed and ready for the evening. I recommend dinner at Restaurant Hubert, one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney! You must get there early though as they have a no reservation policy and it’s always super busy from about 6pm onwards with a long waiting list. Restaurant Hubert is an incredible French restaurant with very cool interiors, and the steak is one of the best I’ve had in Australia.

If it’s a Friday or Saturday night when you’re in town, have a mini bar crawl in the city. Start at Barber Shop (specialising in gin), then go to Baxter Inn, and then finally end up at Shady Pines Saloon (specialising in whisky) and Big Poppa’s. If you want dancing, then Soda Factory just round the corner from Big Poppa’s is one of my absolute favourites!

Take a look a my Favourite Bars in Sydney

Day 2 in Sydney – The Beaches
Rise and shine! If you’re hungover from going out the night before, you need to get yourself in an uber or on a train/bus and go straight to North Bondi for brekky. Breakfast at Speedo’s in Bondi Beach is a must, they do incredible vegan dishes and everything from smoothie bowls to french toast and insane pancakes covered in colourful fresh fruit!

Spend the morning on the beach, and then have lunch at Icebergs Dining Room. I know it seems like a lot of food, but Australia is ALL about the food! And you’re going to need the energy for the epic Bondi to Coogee walk.

Bondi to Coogee is one of the most famous activities in Sydney, and a brilliant way to see the NSW coastline, and the walk begins just outside Icebergs. The walk is honestly breathtaking no matter what season or weather conditions, and takes around 3 hours one way. When you get to Coogee get the bus to Paddington to see a glimpse of a local suburb (and my old home for 18 months!).

If you get off the bus at William Street, there are some super cute shops in the area and there are often huge designer sample sales at Paddington Town Hall. Just opposite Paddo Town Hall is a large colonial styled building often used for pop-up art exhibitions. And don’t miss the Paddington Reservoir Gardens! They’re super pretty and only take 10minutes to have a wander around.

Depending on what you fancy for dinner, I recommend 10 William for great wine and exceptionally good Italian small plates (ideal if you had a big lunch at Icebergs), or The Paddington (not to be confused with Paddo Inn just down the road) for Australian food. The Paddington is great because you can keep it small by just nibbling on starters and salads, or go big with their famous chicken.

Whatever you do, DO NOT have dessert. You need to save your dessert stomach for Micky’s Cafe, which is a 5-minute walk from both restaurants. Their thickshakes are LEGENDARY and you must have one! They have a huge list of different (and unusual) flavoured thickshakes, and they make them in-front of you and literally put half a tub of ice-cream in them to make them super thick and creamy. I personally recommend the Milo and Caramel, Gaytime, and Honeycomb Chocolate Fudge flavours, which the Honeycomb Choc Fudge being my absolute favourite. I will never understand why they put a plastic top onto it though, what a waste of energy and plastic.

After dinner and milkshake, it’s a nice and easy 30-minute bus ride back to The Langham, or a quick 15-minutes in a taxi or Uber.

So there you have it, the ultimate Luxury in 48 Hours Sydney guide that incorporates a little bit of everything; touristy attractions and local neighbourhood must-do’s! If you need more ideas for restaurants in Sydney, have a look at my favourite Sydney restaurants post, and make sure to check out my other Sydney posts. I’ll be doing a more in-depth locals guide to Sydney towards the end of the year in time for Summer in Australia, so keep an eye out for that too!

Also you’re probably wondering why there are no museums in this guide? To be honest, Sydney doesn’t do museums well. They do some great pop-up art events (like the yearly Biennale, Sculptures by the Sea, and Vivid Sydney), but the museums are kinda rubbish if you’re used to London or NYC museums.

Hotel Review: Brookland’s Hotel, Surrey.
It had been years since my best friend last visited from Australia, and so we planned plenty of adventures for while she was staying with me. Although we’ve spent the past two years living in the same country again, with my move back to London it will be another year or two before we are reunited, and so we needed plenty of girlie time before our long-distance friendship resumed. Our first mini-holiday was at the Brookland’s Hotel in Weybridge, just a quick 20-minute drive from my parent’s house.

I’ve grown up visiting the Brooklands museum (maybe this is where my love for cars came from?!) in the school holidays, and so it was nice to go back to the area and experience what the adults get up to.
We arrived late on Friday after I’d finished work, and were wowed by the incredible suite we checked in to. It had everything you could possibly need; a large and stylish open-plan dining room, living room, and study area, a considerably sized walk-in wardrobe, and a large twin bedroom (which can be converted into a double) and bathroom. The design of the suite was very on-brand with the location, dark greys, silvers, and reds, and lots of lovely quirky touches and ornaments in keeping with the car theme.

The view from the suite’s terrace over the Mercedes-Benz race track is a petrol-head’s dream, and it was great fun watching all the cars racing around!

After arriving and settling in to the room we decided to spend an hour in the spa before dinner, and found the whirlpool bath has a similarly epic view over the race track. Sadly it was very full though, and so we found the sauna and steam room and made the most of those instead.
Dinner in the 1907 restaurant (named after the year Brookland’s race track was opened) was a sumptuous affair with a delicious starter of Pork Terrine with pistachio, while for mains we chose the Pork Belly and the 250g Rump steak with chips.

The desserts were a moreish Salted caramel creme brulee, and selection of gelato and sorbets, which I didn’t photograph as we ate them far too quickly! The service was attentive but not too overwhelming, and when we couldn’t finish our petit fours, the staff packaged them up so we could take them back to the room for a midnight snack.
The next morning we awoke from a blissful sleep, bright and early ready for our massage and facial! I’m not a facial person, so I had a full body massage while Cait had her chosen facial. The spa use Caudalie products which are actually my favourite skincare products (I swear by the Vinosource SOS serum and the Vinoperfect moisturiser), so I was really happy to see that they use these. They’re very gentle products so great for people like me who suffer from eczema and sensitive skin, and they smell very fresh and not too overly perfume-y! After our spa time we went back to the sauna and steam room, and finally got into the whirlpool bath with that view!
Our stay was short but sweet, and I’d recommend Brookland’s Hotel to anyone looking to get out of the city and enjoy a peaceful day or night away in the countryside! There’s plenty to do in the area to make it into a weekend trip too, as you have Brookland’s Museum and the Mercedes-Benz world opposite the hotel, as well as lots of National Trust properties in the area.

*Our stay was complimentary for the purpose of review, but this in no way influences my opinions

Hotel Review: Overwater Villa at Warwick Le Lagon, Vanuatu.
The golf buggy whizzed along the narrow winding pathways flanked by villas and palm trees swaying in the night breeze. We arrived at our destination and, shrouded in the blackest of nights, gingerly stepped off the buggy, making sure to mind our step so we didn’t trip over whatever may be laying on the ground. When we looked up we both audibly gasped in unison. In front of our very eyes were millions of stars sparkling in the sky, and the illuminating smudge of the strikingly magical Milky Way. We had arrived in paradise, Warwick Le Lagon in Vanuatu – a tiny Melanesian island in the South Pacific – and were already impressed despite being yet to see the place in the daylight.

Warwick Le Lagon Overwater Villa Vanuatu

It had been a long day with a late night flight, and as it was gone midnight we didn’t take much notice of the villa other than the large bed covered in the cutest welcome message and flowers! The next morning when we awoke from our 10-hour sleep (yes, the bed was THAT comfortable), I padded down to the doors onto the terrace balcony, and flung them open to see the most beautiful sight before me. I called for Laura to hurry up and come and see it, and we both stood there in awe. The lagoon floor was covered in large starfish and colourful tropical fish.

With the shutters open and the sun streaming in we were able to see the villa a little clearer, and we practically ran around the villa shrieking in excitement from how incredible it was! There are just four over-water villas in the resort, each one with a prime view over the breathtaking Erakon Lagoon. Each one has just had a complete refurbishment, transforming them from the tired old-fashioned resort-style villas into a chic and stylish interior that wouldn’t look out of place on an Interior Design Pinterest board. The colour-scheme is beautiful and in keeping with the oceanic theme; soft blues, plenty of light wood, and colourful cushions adorning the bed and sofa!

Warwick Le Lagon Hotel Overwater Villa Vanuatu
There’s a beautiful open plan living area and bedroom (complete with plug points right next to each side of the bed!) on a raised mezzanine level, and then a stunning bathroom behind the bedroom. I must warn you though that the bathroom is all open plan, so if you’re staying with a friend like I was, you’ll have to take it in turns to chill out on the balcony while the other showers and gets ready etc, haha. The toilet is private behind a sliding door though!

The bathroom is super dreamy, with a huge bath tub, a large shower with the most beautiful sparkling green tiles, metallic gold sinks, and a large area for your luggage and getting dressed. Also I’m usually not a fan of hotel hair products (who is?!), however, the shampoo and conditioner at Warwick Le Lagon is AMAZING. Usually hotel conditioners dry my hair out, but even my fine bleached hair loved the conditioner and it felt silky soft after every wash! I have no idea what they put in the stuff, but my hair was very happy.

Another thing I loved about the bathroom was the ability to lay in the bath and stare at this view…just magical!

Outside on the large terrace that overhangs the water, there’s a four-seater table, and two sun loungers for relaxing in the tropical sunshine.

The hotel itself has a large swimming pool, swim-up bar (they do the BEST Mojitos), tranquil spa, a gym, a fancy bar, and two restaurants. We loved the Wild Ginger restaurant, where they had a fabulous selection of traditional fresh seafood, Japanese options, and Teppanyaki!

There’s also plenty of water sports activities available, and we took a boat trip across the lagoon to Erakor Island for lunch, where I tried Samoan Oka (very similar to Hawaiian Poke, and South American Ceviche) for the first time and fell in love with it! We spent an hour or so laying in the warm waters, before getting the boat back to the resort.

The two nights we spent in Warwick Le Lagon’s Overwater Villa were a blissful welcome to the South Pacific, and we experienced the friendly but slow-paced Melanesian hospitality. Everything was very much on ‘island time’, and coming from a large city it was a welcome change to see staff that were so relaxed rather than rushing here there and everywhere. It forced me to relax and really reminded me that it doesn’t matter if you’re 5 minutes behind schedule, you’ll get there in the end, and the most important thing is to enjoy the moment.

The only thing lacking was complimentary WiFi throughout the resort (it costs $30AUD for 24 hours), but that’s really the only complaint I have! Everything else about our stay was completely and utterly perfect.

Experiencing The Hideaways Club Luxury Spanish Steps Apartment.
As part of my partnership with The Hideaways Club, I recently had the opportunity to check out one of their dreamy holiday properties for myself, and oh my gosh it was so incredible I’ve been so excited to tell you all about it! Whether you’re already a member of The Hideaways Club or thinking of joining, this is a comprehensive review of their Spanish Steps apartment in Rome, Italy, and how we found staying in a serviced apartment that was essentially a home-from-home, compared to staying in a hotel. TL;DR: It was amazing.

The Hideaways Club Personal Concierge – Before Arrival
A few weeks before we even arrived at the apartment we got an email through to the members portal which gave us a floor plan of the apartment and allowed us to choose which guest was assigned to which bedroom. It also allowed us to choose either a twin-bed or king bed configuration for each bedroom, which I thought was really handy!
As well as choosing and assigning bedrooms, we could also create an itinerary and see the most popular attractions, bars, and restaurants etc in the city, and then put a request in for a booking. I requested certain dates and times at a couple of bars, and the concierge booked tables at the requested bars for us. It was so great because it meant we had a guaranteed table at each bar instead of having to stand or nab a table as someone left!
The portal also allows you to book transfer to and from the airport, and you can give them your flight number and arrival details so you’re picked up at the correct location and time.
Arriving at the Spanish Steps Apartment
We arrived very late at night, and despite flying business class with British Airways, our bags were the last off so we were *very* late to the apartment. Thankfully our lovely local concierge Danielle was ready and waiting for us outside the apartment with the keys! She showed us in, provided us with the WiFi details and gave us a mini tour of the apartment (including showing us the cereal, milk, and bottled water that had been stocked up in the fridge for us!), and then left us to get some sleep.
She also followed-up with us on WhatsApp, and gave us the WiFi details again via WhatsApp in-case we needed them, and a big list of her favourite cafes, restaurants, and bars in the local area! Every time we had a question throughout our stay we were able to just message Danielle and she always responded almost immediately. It was just so invaluable having local knowledge literally at our fingertips at all times.

The Apartment Space
The apartment completely blew us away from the moment we stepped inside! It was absolutely huge for a holiday apartment, with a very large entrance hallway, living room, dining room (which has the perfect lighting for doing your make-up), kitchen, two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a playroom, a laundry room, and a spacious walk-in wardrobe.

Each room was eclectically decorated, well-appointed, and had everything you could possibly need from a vacation home, including air-conditioning and heating depending on which season you visit, Molton Brown toiletries, and everything you could possibly need in the kitchen to cook up a storm (they even provide you with basic kitchen supplies like spices, salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic, and cereals). There’s also a small library of books, and they even provide travel adaptors for your use.

And then there was the balcony.

A Juliet balcony stretches the entirety of the apartment, with the living room, dining room, and second bedroom all having access to the balcony and one of the most iconic views in Italy – the Spanish Steps. The perfect place to people-watch during Golden Hour!
One of our favorite things was the plush hairy chair in the living room! I even spent a day working from this chair – I dragged it to the balcony door and sat with the sun streaming in, my feet poking out the door onto the balcony, and the people hustling and bustling below us, tap tap tapping away on my laptop and reveling in the opportunity to work from such a beautiful location.[All photos of me by Posh, Broke, & Bored]

The Location
You quite literally cannot get a better location than this. The apartment is located on Via Condotti which is where all of the major high-end fashion brands are located, and if you’re not looking for a new Loewe straw bag, you can pop down the road to H&M and the high street brands.
The apartment is also a 2-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, a 10-minute walk from Villa Medici, and around a 15-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Pantheon. The Colosseum is around a half hour walk, as is Vatican City, which flies by as you go past all the other major sights en-route to the Colosseum (although we did get a fair few taxis as well as we are lazy and were tired from eating so much pasta and gelato).
In the area are a plethora of fabulous cafes and restaurants, including one of my favourites from our trip to Rome; La Buvette! As well as La Buvette which is a short 4-minute walk from the apartment, I also recommend sitting down and enjoying a gelato at Caffè Ciampini, and sipping on cocktails at the stylish Stravinskij Bar at nearby Hotel de Russie. In the wider area the best Carbonara can be found at Armando al Pantheon (bookings in advance are essential), and pizza from il Chianti Vineria is a must! And of course, a visit to Rome would not be complete without multiple gelato’s from Giolitti.
Overall Opinion of The Hideaways Club Spanish Steps Apartment
Overall our stay was blissful, and we loved how close we were to all of the major sights and attractions! We also loved that we could choose how often the apartment was serviced – we chose every other day which worked perfectly for us. It was a welcome change staying in an apartment that really did feel like a home, and in such a magical location, rather than in a hotel. I don’t think I will ever forget our stay or the beautiful view from the balcony!
