On January 1, 2025, Ukraine halted the transit of Russian natural gas through its territory, citing national security concerns. This action led to a significant energy crisis in Transnistria, the separatist region of Moldova, which heavily depends on Russian gas supplies. As a result, Transnistria faced widespread heating and hot water outages, affecting residential buildings and industrial facilities. Despite the crisis, Russia has not provided additional support to Transnistria, leaving the region to manage the situation independently - or with Moldovan help.
