Hello on Friday‼️

And one more London sneak peak 😉

The Ambassadors
by Hans Holbain The Younger

You can find it in the National Gallery in London and see if for free 💪🏻 and this is the greatest value of museums and galleries in this phenomenal city.

A bit on the painting itself:

Hans Holbein the Younger’s “The Ambassadors” of 1533 is well known for its anamorphic image of a skull in the foreground, but upon close perusal, the objects on the table between the two subjects prove just as fascinating.
To start with, the painting memorializes Jean de Dinteville, French ambassador to England, and his friend, Georges de Selve, who acted on several occasions as French ambassador to the Republic of Venice, to the Pope in Rome, and to England, Germany, and Spain.

The upper shelf, which is concerned with the the heavens, includes a celestial globe, a portable sundial, and various other instruments used for understanding the heavens and measuring time, while the lower shelf, which reflects the affairs of the world, holds musical instruments, a hymn book, a book of arithmetic, and a terrestrial globe.

Holbein painted “The Ambassadors” during a particularly tense period marked by rivalries between the Kings of England and France, the Roman Emperor, and the Pope. Furthermore, the French church was split over the question of the Reformation. The religious and political strife was reflected symbolically in the details of the painting. Among them:

A crucifix is half-obscured by a green curtain in the top left corner of the painting, symbolizing the division of the church.
The broken string on the lute evokes ecclesiastical disharmony during the Reformation.
The open book of music next to the lute has been identified as a Lutheran hymnal, and the book of mathematics is open on a page of divisions which opens with the word “Dividirt.”
There are also non-political details throughout the work, such as the ages of the sitters being written in Latin on the dagger’s sheath (Dinteville) and on the book on the top shelf (de Selve).

Camden Market
…. A DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF CREATIVE SELLERS, STREET FOOD TRADERS AND INDEPENDENT STORES NEXT TO THE REGENT’S CANAL. OPEN EVERY DAY, WE HAVE OVER 1,000 PLACES TO SHOP, EAT, DRINK AND DANCE IN OUR HISTORIC CENTRAL LONDON LOCATION.

AND BELIEVE ME - EVERYTHING THERE MAKES YOUR HEAD 🫨SPIN 🙃

Before Camden Market was born, gin was Camden’s biggest industry. It was transported all over the world from the Regent’s Canal. The 1970s signaled the end of Camden’s industrial heritage and the start of the Market.

Additionally, Camden Market has had a firm hand in fashion history since the 1970s. The links between fashion and music have, and always will be inextricable – and back in the 70s, Camden was a melting pot of both. Dingwalls Dance Hall was alive and kicking and in those days, fashion was influenced by music… not catwalks. With this in mind, Camden Town was right at the very centre of London’s gig scene.

Hello on Saturday🙃

I am taking you on another trip in London 😉 ready? Here we go.

If somebody knows me, they also know that I am a humongous fan 😍 of street art 🖼️ and in London I found my place‼️ and this place is called SHOREDITCH.

It is hands down the best place to admire wonderful pieces of street art.

Around every corner, down every alleyway, looming over car parks, on railway hoardings, underneath the arches of Shoreditch High Street Station, even on some of the wheelie bins – talented artists have turned the area into a canvas filled with colour and bold statements.

Additionally, it is is a creative playground and hedonistic hipster hangout bursting with bars, street art, quirky stores and clubs (with the odd bit of history and nature thrown in for good measure).

And the fact that I have just seen a small percentage of what Shoreditch has to offer makes me dream of coming back there rather sooner than later 🤞🏻.

Hello on Friday‼️

"I'm just a girl,

standing in front of a boy,

asking him to love her.”

Yes, we all know this quote ❤️ and as a humongous fan of Julia Roberts I can rewatch this movie over and over again 😉

And NOTTING HILL is not only the title of the movie, but also London’s most desirable and Instagrammable areas, with iconic pastel-coloured houses and a thriving market.

You can find everything from world-famous events and restaurants to cutting-edge theatres in Notting Hill. Perhaps you'll even meet a film star in a travel book shop.

The popular Notting Hill market is known as Portobello Market, so called because it runs along Portobello Road. Pay a visit to one of the best markets in London, and you'll discover something interesting to take home with you.

The main day at Portobello Market is Saturday, although traders set up some market stalls from Monday to Friday. The main market on Saturday is a big day for antiques and bargain hunters, but you can also buy fresh fruit and vegetables, second-hand goods and vintage clothing.

Nearly a kilometre long, this bustling west London market offers an endless variety of merchandise. Dive in and you're sure to find a unique souvenir.

TITBIT

The Notting Hill movie, directed by Roger Michell, was released in 1999. The romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant was a box office hit, and Notting Hill became a popular place to visit as much of the film was shot in and around the area.

Hello on Wednesday‼️

Have you got any idea what bridge you can see in this mysterious photo?

Well, officially, it is called Millenium Bridge, however, …

Londoners nicknamed it the "Wobbly Bridge" after pedestrians experienced an alarming swaying motion on its opening day. The bridge was closed later that day and, after two days of limited access, it was closed again for almost two years so that modifications and repairs could be made to keep the bridge stable and stop the swaying motion. It reopened in February 2002.

TITBIT‼️

The bridge is featured in the opening scenes of the film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where the bridge collapses following an attack by Death Eaters.

Have you crossed the Thames using this bridge? In my humble opinion, it is one of the cooles bridges in London 😉.

🖐🏼Hello on Wednesday‼️
Let’s have a look at a bit of art.

💣Have you watched Skyfall with Daniel Craig? Do you remember the scene where Bond is sitting in the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London? He is sitting there with Q, exactly in front of this painting.

🧑🏼‍🎨First of all, who painted it? J.M.W. Turber - an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker, whose style can be said to have laid the foundation for Impressionism. Although Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, he is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting.

🖼️What painting is that?
The Fighting Temeraire, tugged to her last berth to be broken up, 1838

📜Turner’s painting shows the final journey of the Temeraire, as the ship is towed from Sheerness in Kent along the river Thames to Rotherhithe in south-east London, where it was to be scrapped. The veteran warship had played a distinguished role in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, but by 1838 was over 40 years old and had been sold off by the Admiralty. When exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1839, the painting was accompanied by lines Turner had adapted from Thomas Campbell’s poem, Ye Mariners of England: ‘The flag which braved the battle and the breeze, / No longer owns her.’

It is unlikely that Turner witnessed the ship being towed; instead, he imaginatively recreated the scene using contemporary reports. Set against a blazing sunset, the last voyage of the Temeraire takes on a greater symbolic meaning, as the age of sail gives way to the age of steam.

Hello on Tuesday‼️‼️

You may think it is yet another Harry Potter 🧙🏻🪄🧹post on insta, however, not this time 😉

This is Leicester Square 💪🏻.

⚔️Throughout the 17th century, Leicester Square was a notorious duelling location. Famous duels are said to have occurred here, including one between a Captain French and Captain Coote.

📺 Now, Global icon, cultural hub, entertainment epicentre. Leicester Square exists to entertain.

🎥One of the best things to do in London’s Leicester Square is visit the amazing bronze statues that you can get up close with and take photos! The Leicester Square Statues are famous stars of film immortalised in bronze in and around the square. The installation has been in London since February 2020 and is still being added to.

We have found:
🎩 Charlie Chaplin
🕺🏾🕺🏻Laurel and Hardy
🥕 Bugs Bunny
🥪 Paddington Bear
👞 Gene Kelly
🌂 Mary Poppins
🪄 Harry Potter
🦸🏻‍♂️ Batman (check out the story ;)
🦹🏽‍♀️ Wonder Woman
🧸 Mr Bean
🧳 Indiana Jones

However, I’ve got some gut feeling that we might have missed something … ;)

And additionally two more temporary statues are coming.

Have you seen any other figures in Leicester Square? Let us know in the comments :)

Hello on Monday‼️

Yes, we’re still in London & this time again we have for you something that doesn’t go without saying 😉 (it’s not obviously "londonish" 😃.

Say hello ✋🏻 to MORPH ☺️ - a much-loved children’s TV character.

This year, from 19 June to 20 August, central London is hosting up to 70 super-sized sculptures of this amicable (=friendly, nice, cute) character.

Located alongside some of London’s most iconic landmarks, each Morph sculpture has been uniquely designed by epic, well-known and emerging artists, providing a fun family-friendly art trail for locals and visitors to follow. A series of smaller ‘Mini Morph’ sculptures adopted and created by schools will also be displayed as part of the adventure.

A Trail Map and App will navigate you through London’s famous streets including the South Bank of the River Thames and the historic City of London, helping you discover each sculpture and unlock a series of rewards and fun facts.

Whilst exciting and inspiring people of all ages to celebrate London through creativity, the trail will also increase public awareness about the need for young wheelchair users to be mobile, enabled and included in society.

When the Trail ends, the super-sized Morph sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for Whizz Kidz.

expect the feed about Big Ben or Tower Bridge, however, here I come to suprise you all 😉 just as London is full of surprises.

Would you believe that wandering along the streets you can come across and elephant 🐘 and not one elephant but 21 of them 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘😳😉.

Well, yes you can. Have a look at a brief story of THE HERD OF HOPE and London elephants.

From the plains of Kenya to the heart of London, the Herd of Hope is a family of 21 life-sized bronze elephants 🐘🐘🐘 embarking on the journey of a lifetime as they migrate across London. Currently roaming around the iconic Spitalfields Market, walk amongst our 21 life-sized bronze elephants 🐘🐘🐘 and get to know the real-life orphans that have inspired this public art installation.

Displayed across Spitalfields Market and created by internationally acclaimed artists Gillie and Marc, the Herd of Hope aims to raise awareness for Africa’s endangered elephants 🐘🐘🐘 and funds for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Already thousands of people have visited the sculptures, which are led by a matriarch and feature 20 smaller elephants 🐘🐘🐘, each representing a real-life herd.

Each orphan sculpture has the name of the orphan they symbolise along with a scannable QR code allowing you to watch their rescue videos and directly support their rehabilitation journey as you walk among them.

I don’t know about you, but I just adore ❤️ elephants 🐘🐘🐘 and I am totally in love 🥰 with this idea.
