"Around the 1960s, the world’s two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, started a race. This time, instead of developing new means of mass destruction, they set their sights on an race in space, which in 1969 eventually resulted in sending humans to the moon. But while the two world powers focused on developing space technology, the specter of nuclear war still hung over the horizon. Living in a world of constant anxiety, interspersed with dreams of the silver globe and other cosmic delights, gave artists reason to ponder the future of humanity and piqued their interest in the exploration of previously unreachable space: the cosmos."

Polish Surrealist Cinema and the Bright Future Ahead of It

"Although the surrealist cinema trend was born in the late 1920s and lasted until the 1950s, and then experienced a kind of renaissance during the 1980s and 1990s, this type of film-making was never particularly popularised in Poland. This fact has social, financial and, of course, political connotations. Polish cinematography was changing dynamically and adopted different strategies as to how to influence people, especially during the communist era. Today we can witness a number of young directors bringing back the surrealist genre in polish cinema."

It was more of a gradual escalation of different issues, not just ones centered on gender, that when combined paint a troubling picture of today’s boys and men. Although we all agree that masculinity is in fact in crisis, we cannot agree on how to interpret its specific symptoms, nor can we agree on what its true cause is."
