One of the best attractions not to be missed in Warsaw is the Wilanow Palace, a rare glimpse of the grandeur of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before Poland was annexed by Prussia and Russia in the late 18th century.

The palace was designed as a summer retreat for King John III Sobieski in the late 17th century and has all the features of Baroque palace architecture, including a ground floor with two terraces with topiary, broderie and statues symbolising love.

The exterior features numerous medallions, busts, statues and other Baroque ornaments, while the interior decoration is rich in stuccoes, trompe-l'oeil frescoes and chinoserie.

Hightlights are the sumptuous White Room, decorated with mirrors, the Royal Library, the Royal Bedchamber and the North Gallery, flanked by statues and with magnificent ceiling frescoes.

The Warsaw mermaid 🧜‍♀️ , symbol of Warsaw - has become the heroine of many legends.

One tells of two beautiful mermaids who used to dwell in the depths of the ocean and once arrived from the atlantic to the baltic, each one fell in love with different city. The first one settled in Copenhagen harbor, while the second sailed to Gdansk and then along the Vistula river to Warsaw.

Sadly, the beautiful mermaid with a blissful voice was snatched by a rich merchant, who wanted to exhibit her at fairs and make profit from beauty and singing, until fishermen rescued the mermaid.

Legend tells that the mermaid, overjoyed and grateful for her regained freedom, decided to stay on a riverbank of Old Town and swore the fishermen to protect them and their small fishing village, which over the time grew into a large and beautiful city.

Today, the image of the mermaid, proudly stands with sword and shield to guard the capital. 🇵🇱

The Palace of Culture and Science is one of the most symbolic icon in Warsaw.

It was unveiled in 1952 as a gift from Stalin and soviet union to the Varsovians.

Representing a controversial symbol since its opening as it has been widely hotel, tollerated and finally unwillingly accepted as part of the city's landscape and its history.
