EX CNS ADMIRAL AFZAL TAHIR :

If it were the few dynastic rulers, I am sure they could be tackled but unfortunately they have over the decades corrupted the entire system of governance and law and stuffed it with their lackeys. what to talk of courts just look at the EC and its tantrums over the last two months and one would get the measure of degeneration that is plaguing the institutions. They have also brow beaten the security institutions into submission through continuous propaganda and slander. I think the real rot started with pardon of Mary by GRS. That is when they got the notion that they could get away with anything including murder literally and there was no stopping the barrage of abuse and allegations.

Just read through the two orders of the honourable SC, one about VONC and dissolution of assemblies and the other belatedly about the turncoats and one could easily discern as to where is was to favour the rascals in politics and where it was to make the public believe about doing something but really not doing anything substantial.
The latest one could have just put the matter to rest in one paragraph that essentially could have deseated the turncoats with immediate effect.
So the entire system has been rusted to the core over the decades and only a facade is now left of all the institutions and I mean all of them.
The entire system needs to be flushed down the toilet lest it will keep polluting the entire country. That can be done only by the people taking the matters into their hands, a very serious thing to say but need of the time.
Let us not be afraid or intimidated by how damaging a chaotic situation can be for the country. This lullaby is old trick because nothing can be more harmful for the country of Pakistan than what has already happened to it.
We are already late and things cannot be pended any longer. After all revolutions change the course of history and unfortunately there is nothing like a bloodless revolution, that is the lesson of history. Unquote

As Received
For: Lt Gen [retd] Ali Kuli Khan.

Dear Gen Ali. AoA.
I hope you are very well.
I understand that you are heading an organization of retired army personnel. It is in this connection that I am writing to you, while I also had occasion to write to Gen Amjad Shuaib.
Too many retired army officers have thousands of questions to ask. The answers they receive are from myriad sources. The authenticity of such answers is suspect. Thus they give rise to more speculation and create more confusion and demoralization.
Some of the officers want to reach Gen Asim in order to get answers to questions which bother them. But no one knows of an avenue to get to the Chief, and all are certain that their letters won't get to him. So there was a suggestion that they send their questions to you and to Gen Shuaib, and you consolidate the same and send them to Gen Asim with the hope that he will find a way to address them. At the very least the Gen may read them and that will allow the main concerns of thousands to register with him. Even that may be beneficial. But the hope essentially is that because of your rank and also because you represent so many in the ranks of the retired, courtesy may be extended to you, which lesser ranks do not expect to receive.
The broad sweep of questions, and suggestions have been repeated so often that these are pretty well known. I am therefore attempting to put them in some order and sending them to you. These could form a framework for any additional questions that may come your way.
The following are the questions most assiduously being asked, and suggestions most sincerely being proffered. I have merely collected and collated them, and put them in a more coherent form, for onward submission
1. Gen Asim has promised that his foremost task is to rehabilitate the image of the army. This expresses a sentiment which has found great welcome. But it has raised the question: "will the image of the army be rebuilt by brushing up a narrative or by actions?"
If it is to rely on a narrative, it will do more harm than good. Reinforcing a failure only enlarges a disaster. The only real measure of the hit the army's reputation has taken may be gathered from the fact that for 75 years a huge majority of our civilian brethren have believed that it was the army which was keeping the country together. But over the last eight months this myth has been blown to smithereens. It now transpires that behind the scenes the army was promoting every ill that we find ourselves saddled with. This is also the view of the rank and file, both serving and retired. This is not a good position to be in.
So all eyes are therefore trained on the actions Gen Asim is going to take.
2. Does the Army High Command [AHC] feel somehow compelled to follow Gen Bajwa's legacy, or is there an awareness of how besmirched this legacy is and that therefore the AHC is fully committed to make a clean breast of it? The following questions are creating a lot of concern and need honest answers:
a. Was there an army hand behind the assassination attempt on Imran Khan and the murder of Arshad Sharif?
b.Very few doubt that Azam Swati was the victim of the AHC desire to teach him a lesson when he was meted out the treatment the first time around. But what of his shifting from Baluchistan to Sindh? Was the AHC behind this? And is it involved in the continuing harassment of that part of the press which is supportive of Imran Khan?
c. What has been the role of the army in procuring clean chits for every major thief of the country?
3. Another major issue regarding Bajwa's legacy under discussion is the merit of senior officers he has promoted and filled the decks with, thus tying Gen Asim's hands and considerably restricting his room for maneouver. But it is a difficult issue to debate merit of the promotees objectively because their records on paper have very little to tell them apart. However the intent of Gen Bajwa in such matters can be commented upo by taking an example of an officer he chose to head the AWT. This officer was a friend of Bajwa's. He was universally detested by every coursemate of his. As a divisional commander, he was removed from command on the grounds that he was unfit for command. He was not cleared by his commander for promotion to LT Gen. He acquired a well earned reputation for corruption well before this became the norm, and it was known that his house was a gift from a building contractor. And when Bajwa picked him to run an organization like the Army Welfare Trust, Bajwa could well be asked what was it that he was rewarding this scounrel for? Ulimately the placement of this officer was a statement of his intent for much that he later did to the country as much as it was also one of where merit stood with him. And if this case was any standard to go by, one may only shudder at the thought of the wounds Bajwa may have inflicted upon the army with the promotions he made. In light of the foregoing there ae many questions being asked of Gen Asim as to how does he plan to proceed with such promotions Bajwa may have made.
4. National security has primarily been the army's responsibility since the inception of the country. Is the AHC aware that more lethal than a physical attack across borders is economic attack against the country? And if it is aware of this, is it also aware that a very important part of the economic war against the country involves the hollowing out of the treasury of the country by its own elites who have the power to do so? If this is so, is there a mechanism in place to monitor this aspect of the war being waged against the state? And if not, why not?
5.Pakistan was barely getting out of its economic woes in 2021. But after operation regime change there has been a change in direction, and now no one denies we are near the brink. Is the army aware of the fact that we are near default, and what will be its implications for the country? If it is aware of this, what is it doing about it?
6. For years now, it has been a matter of pride for the rank and file that even if there have been a few bad eggs in the army's higher ranks, our Gens have by and large been clean. This was one assumption among the rank and file on the basis of which they occupied the moral high ground. But after the publication of Bajwa's family assets this moral high ground has been taken out from under the feet of the rank and file. They frankly find themselves sunk. And they KNOW they will have to sink more because it is a point of faith with them that what has appeared about Bajwa is only the tip of the iceberg. The entirety of the iceberg has yet to reveal itself. So what is the position of the AHC on Bajwa's assets? To put it quite simply, does the AHC consider Bajwa to have amassed his wealth by using his office or not? And does the AHC consider him to be an example of corruption in its higher ranks? And if not, how does the AHC plan to deal with a Maj or Capt who tomorrow goes and holds up a bank?
7.. A very large majority believes that Bajwa brought about regime change at the behest of foreign powers? What is the army's determination on this? Has the AHC any plans to find out if this is true or not? And if not, why not? And will ignoring this issue not amount to dereliction of its prime duty as far as national security is concerned?
8. No one can deny that Pakistan is being buffeted by huge political instability today. It can also not be denied that this political instability is the direct result of operation regime change, which was brought about directly by the army high command. If the present AHC denies this, it can only mean that they are committed to digging deeper the hole in which their predecessors left them. To get themselves out of this hole therefore, it is the need of the hour that they begin by telling the truth to themselves. And once they admit that it was the erstwhile officers who formed the AHC which committed the sin of pushing the country to the edge where it teeters today, they will find themselves very near to repairing the damage done to the country. And this they can achieve by using their considerable heft to force immediate elections and ensure that these will be fairly conducted. And the political instability being an issue of the utmost significance for national security, they will be wiel within their remit in pushing for this. If they can do just this, they will have done a lot to salvage their country. This is very simple to do. All it requires is the courage to see the truth. All the rest should logically follow.
I have just tabulated above the major questions most avidly being debated, without any letup in the debate. The smaller questions are too many to be listed. If you can reach out to the ranks of the retired and ask if they need to add to the above list, that will be good. Indeed, you may already by memory some of these questions which you could add to the above.
However you proceed, I think it is extremely important for the army high command to know what is agitating the minds of their retired collegues, because the minds of those serving could not possibly be too different.
Yours most sincerely.
Saeed. A Malik.

An Old Legend says:

According to an old Native American legend, one day there was a big fire in the forest. All the animals fled in terror in all directions, because it was a very violent fire. Suddenly, the jaguar saw a hummingbird pass over his head, but in the opposite direction. The hummingbird flew towards the fire!
Whatever happened, he wouldn't stop. Moments later, the jaguar saw him pass again, this time in the same direction as the jaguar was walking. He could observe this coming and going, until he decided to ask the bird about it, because it seemed very bizarre behavior.

"What are you doing, hummingbird?" he asked.
"I am going to the lake," he answered, "I drink water with my beak and throw it on the fire to extinguish it." The jaguar laughed. 'Are you crazy? Do you really think that you can put out that big fire on your own with your very small beak?'
'No,' said the hummingbird, 'I know I can't. But the forest is my home. It feeds me, it shelters me and my family. I am very grateful for that. And I help the forest grow by pollinating its flowers. I am part of her and the forest is part of me. I know I can't put out the fire, but I must do my part.'

At that moment, the forest spirits, who listened to the hummingbird, were moved by the birdie and its devotion to the forest. And miraculously they sent a torrential downpour, which put an end to the great fire.

The Native American grandmothers would occasionally tell this story to their grandchildren, then conclude with,
*"Do you want to attract miracles into your life?*
*Do your part."*

“You have no responsibility to save the country or find the solutions to all problems
*BUT YOU DO HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY*
to attend to your particular personal corner and contribute what positive you can contribute for Pakistan. Play your part like humming bird and wait for the miracle.💐

Sleeping With the Enemy.........Saeed A. Malik.

For long, with many of us, there has been a hazy acceptance of the fact that some of our people get subverted and begin working for other masters. The haziness of this feeling has rested in the inability of most to believe that this could really be possible.
On this issue I lost my innocence when I was in NAB. Lt Col Obaidullah and Maj Iftikhar Rasul were inquiring into the case of an ex-Major, and wanted to look into his service record held with the Adjutant General's Branch in GHQ. They asked me to help out.
Lt Gen Faiz Jillani was the AG then, and I had known him from when he was commanding the 111 Brigade. I called him and stated my problem. He said that the two investigators were welcome for the stated purpose and gave me the contact of his staff officer whom they were to meet.
But an hour later Gen Jillani called me. He was very apologetic. He said that the two NAB officers would still be welcome, but that they wouldn't be allowed to make any photocopies of the documents scrutinized by them. They could only transcribe the same by hand. And then by way of explanation he added that if some of the documents held with him were to go public, they could be hugely embarrassing for the army and he was disallowing them to be photocopied, because he wanted to assure himself plausible deniability.
When I debriefed the two officers upon their return they informed me that some of the documents relating to the subject officer quite clearly showed a foreign connection. But the real issue with these documents was that they showed his links with senior serving officers. And from some of them a clear inference could be drawn that a few of these senior officers were affording protection to the scoundrel.
Some of the names I heard shocked me. Since then I have wondered how deep and broad was the ingress of foreign powers into the most powerful portals in Pakistan. And then came Bajwa's action of Apr 2022. This left absolutely no doubt that he was acting at the behest of a foreign master. And he would have got clean away with this, but what he did next was what brought the whole house down. He handed the fate of Pakistan back to the tender mercies of the most detested thugs who had, between themselves, r***d this country without let or hindrance for upwards of three decades.
With this the scales fell from the eyes of an adoring public, and the army they had so long revered, stood stark naked in front of them. And quite frankly it stood there in a garb it would be shameful to admit.
What also fell was the morale and the spirit of the mid and junior ranks of the army, who had stood guard over our security and long sacrificed life and limb for it. From heros they had been degraded to the rank of traitors in public perception, due to one black action by their Chief.
Two conclusions were drawn from Bajwa's action, both by the people of Pakistan, and by the rank and file, viz:
a.That Pakistan's sovereignty had long been bartered away by the high command of its army.
b. And that the army high command had long been protectors of the thugs who had time and again hollowed out the country's treasury.
What was not known prior to Apr 2022, but is adequately clear now, is that the thugs and the army high command were a part of the same gang, wearing different clothes, but taking and following orders from the same master, to achieve the purposes of this master.
And one of these purposes was to bring Pakistan to its knees in order to wring out of Pakistan what the master most wanted from us.
With default looming so close, the master had us where he wanted us, but then another cock-up took place. A part of Bajwa's family assets, valued at ruppees twelve billion showed up, which he can neither deny nor justify. These could not have been made except by peddling illegal influence or outright theft. It is common belief that by the time the full extent of his robbery is exposed, he will be sharing the stage with the thugs.
This may not matter to the high command, some of whom must have eaten at the same trough. But it matters a hell of lot to the young officer and the rank and file, the same lot who are daily asked to give blood for the land, that their Chief was both a traitor and a thief. At junior levels corruption still continues to matter.
And here is where this should begin to matter to the high command as well:
a. How willingly shall this part of the army, which has repeatedly given life and blood for the land, still follow the orders of a high command which has betrayed the very values it ingrained in them, and taught them to esteemed so highly?
b. And given the above, does the high command still feel compelled to follow the direction charted by an ex Chief, widely viewed by his command as both a traitor and a thief, or will it make a radical course correction?
In short, will the high command stand by its oath and behind the interests of the country, or will it follow dictates coming from abroad?

If it is decided that for once the oath will be stood by, the course ahead is very clear and simple. You [the high command] should press for immediate elections, and make certain that these are fair beyond a stain..
The following is what you will get to gain by taking this course:
a. You will become the first high command in our history to have stood by your oath.
b. By the simple act of enforcing elections, you will have done more to refurbish the badly mauled image of your army than any other thousand actions put together.
c. You will reunify your army which is badly split in its thinking.
d. As soon as the election date is announced, all unharnessed energies, especially ones trained on you, will change direction and get focussed on the issue of elections.
e. This will leave you free to begin mending the army, which has lost in the past few years, more than you may know.
f. And what is of vital importance, it will allow to you to concentrate your energies against the onslaught brought on by TTP and attend to other tasks which have been neglected while you were busy giving a bad name to yourselves.
g.Pakistan is due for an extremely bumpy ride. And if someone HAS to be in government during this ride, it may be best that this should be the most popular party because it will have more capacity to absorb the coming shocks than will other set ups. This will make the army's job much more manageable.

But if your loyalties are elsewhere, and incline you not to honour your oath, please be mindful of the following:
a. In 1971, the army denied power to the majority. We saw war, surrender, and the breakup of the country.
b. if,once more you are inclined towards political engineering with the aim of denying power to the party with the largest support base, as you move ahead on this course, remember the following:
[1] the gun which you expect to sustain you in this effort, and the wielders of this gun, both stand discredited even before the first shot is fired.
[2] unlike 1971, there is a serious divide in the army of today.
[3] therefore do everything possible to keep the people from coming out on the streets. Remember, hunger alone will soon reach a point that will drive them there without any instigation.
[4] once the people come out, sooner or later a bullet will have to be fired, and once that is done, it will become a people vs the military affair. I can almost hear some of the geniuses around you saying that the police or the rangers will be able to handle the situation, and the army will not have to be deployed. Please dont listen to these geniuses. It will become a people vs the army issue SIMPLY because the whole country will already know that the army was backing and ordering the police or the Rangers, or whoever is deployed to fire on the hungry masses.
[5] The moment fire is opened on the people, by whichever force you have chosen, the first reaction of the people will be to flee. At that point your geniuses will be tumbling over each other, coming to congratulate you. But remember, it will be within weeks of this that you will be getting your army caught between double pincers; between the people and the terrorists.
[6] That will be the time when the first open split in the army will begin to show itself. This will result in mental paralyses among the high command. And that will be the best time for you to begin packing your bags for the flight out to Belgium.
[7] And before you decide to break your oath, you must know there is no way for you to "half break" it. You cannot be a little bit pregnant. You are either there, or here. This allows you no percentages.
[8] If you decide to stand against your oath, there is only one thing that will be able to retrieve you. And that is if the governance that follows is such that a great majority of the people agree that it is a significant improvement over the "kanjar khana" which is now standing in for governance.

Before going any further, please take time out to determine which of the following factors is driving your geniuses to incline you towards violating your oath and into political engineering all over again:
a. Are they among those whose loyalties to the state, and therefore their oaths, have been subverted?
b. Or are they among those whose assets are bursting at the seam, under threat of being exposed, and thus they fear that free and fair elections will bring someone to power, who is likely to check on these assets?
c. Or do they have blood on their hands, directly or indirectly. Does the murder of Arshad Sharif, and attempted assassination of Imran Khan tie is with them? [Please do read the post script].

Lastly get yourself out of the clutches of intelligence assessments. In most cases, such assessments all over the world are designed to drive their victims to a pre determined end. At least a few among the high command should already know this. But the least that ought to be known is that the two most disastrous political assessments by our intelligence, in our history were the one in 1970 which led to the break up of Pakistan, and the one in 2021, which has led us to the point today, where we are left cowering at the thought that we are about to lose what we had left over after the 71 catasptrophe.
Instead of intelligence assessments, take a weekend off, and read through tens of army blogs. These will furnish you REAL intelligence. Your people will tell you that these were the views of the retirees. But if you are regimental officers of any great worth, you will know, that those serving [except generals of course] and those retired, spend a lot of time together, and their thinking is EXACTLY alike.
Gen Asim has nothing against him. The rumour sought to be spread against him that he is beholden to Mariam Safdar has not stuck. The only burden on him is his photo with Mohsin Beg which is shown repeatedly, but has not created the desired effect .The great advantage he has is that he will be compared with Bajwa for a few weeks more. And he will keep coming out a winner. He should thus put as great a distance between himself and Bajwa. This will be good for him, his army, and his country.
P.S. On 27 Oct 2022 at the joint press conference of DG ISI and DG ISPR, called conseqent to Arshad Sharif's murder, DG ISI specifically declared that Arshad Sharif was under NO threat or danger. But BEFORE that, on 10 Aug 2022, as per the Fact Finding Report which is on record, SHO Memon Goth was called to the ISI office near Lucky Star Karachi and told by officers of the ISI to register a sedition case against Arshad Sharif. News of this caused Arshad Sharif to flee Pakistan to find safety abroad, where he could only find death. The question which arises is whether this connection between Arshad Sharif's flight from Pakistan and the ISI role which triggered this, will be investigated till its logical end? And will it also be investigated if there was a connection between this episode and the attempt on Imran Khan's life?

The proposed Technocratic Government is an attempt to put on shoe on other foot to achieve what was enshrined by US for us but found difficult to achieve under a thug government pieced together for the purpose. These include:
Forced subservience of US in context of its rivalry with China, Afghanistan, control of our nuclear assets and an economically and socially weak Pakistan for never ending Master - Servent relationship in place.
In pursuit of above, two obstacles are being encountered. One is Imran Khan which also symbolizes the other - ever increasing people's yearning intensely for Change. With Technocratic Government, some relief may be provided to people in order to erode Imran Khan popularity and weaken people's sentiments for change. It is human psych that with some relief, sentiments for change tend to recede. This would be a major breakthrough for forces of status quo and a major loss to the country which arrived at after paying a collosal cost - a disastrous decade of 2008 - 2018 and ongoing disaster under present thug government. Similarly, an advent of a leader like Imran Khan is rare and its miscarriage is even a greater loss.
It is good that PTI has decided to oppose proposal of Technocratic Government sternly and secondly, this is likely to be a non starter for the reason that earlier such innovations by establishment had been got through because people had trust upon them. Now it is no more there. It is in their own interests if they understand this. Now they could only do right things, not wrong things in perpetuation of what it had been doing in past.

04/01/2023

The idea of Technocrat Government is not easy to implement. In Constitution only interim government can be placed in after dissolution of Assemblies. The caretaker government can only be for 120 days. Though this government can do anything but they need blessings of Supreme Court. This so called Bangladesh Model was a much talk in past also. Some thinkers inclined to Army Rule pleaded for this idea whenever a caretaker government was placed in 1990. 1993. 1997 and urged for its extension for two to three years. But the Establishment preferred to hold elections. Bangladesh model was adopted to curb corruption of two Bangladesh parties. But now in Pakistan the Establishment has no objection to corruption. So what narrative the Establishment will propagate. At the moment in my view move in media is to discourage the workers of PTI. However GHQ may be taking briefings how to tackle the economic crises. If they will go for technocrat government they will further plunge the country in deep crises.

Repairing Reputations..........Saeed A. Malik.

Bajwa, having screwed Pakistan good and proper, has moved into his new house. And without loss of time he has embarked on an exercise to repair his reputation.
For this purpose he invited the already charmed T.V anchor, Javed Choudhary, to his place, to charm him all over again. And Javed Choudhary, the history buff who often makes up history on the go, did get suitably charmed. Instead of quizzing the general on how the plot on which his new house stands was regularized, he chose to inform us about how spotlessly clean the house was, and how some affordable antiques were so tastefully hung or placed all over it.
And then he regaled us with the disarming manner in which the general dunked his cake rusks in his cup of tea before downing them.
How the quaintness of this tale was expected to mollify the millions whose hunger has gone up twofold in the last nine months, only Bajwa and Javed Choudhary would know.
If people have any real concern about their reputations, there is only one way to keep them in good order. And that is not to allow dirt to settle on them, rather than wallow in dirt and then depend on a good cleaning job to bring out the shine.
Bajwa should have kept himself aware of the gatherings at the house of his mentor every evening, for which scotch was often supplied by some rich business people. When you use borrowed scotch to spark off conviviality, you have to pay back the suppliers. And there lies the blossom of corruption for all to see.
So when Bajwa made it convenient for Nawaz Sharif to flee the country at the instigation of his mentor, he already had an established reputation for doing favours in exchange for handouts.
A PERSON WHO DOES FAVOURS FOR MONEY WILL NEVER DO ONE FOR FREE.
Thus there is absolutely no doubt in the minds of many that Nawaz Sharif paid his way out. And we know the beneficiaries, and this is not likely to remain hidden long.
In these circumstances Bajwa can only have his reputation repaired as suggested by a village parable about the grave robber. The account is as follows:
There was this village grave robber. He used to rob the shrouds off the co**ses from freshly dug graves and sell them in the market. The business was not exactly a thriving one, but allowed him to get by.
But as he got older, his conscience began to get the better of him, and began to worry about his reputation.
And so he began to admonish and then beseech his son that after he passed away, the son should conduct himself in a manner whereby the father would be well remembered.
So after he died, the son decided to carry on the family business of robbing graves. But he did not stop at merely divesting the co**se of its shroud, he went further. After taking the shroud off, he would drive a stake through its backside as his personal signature at the scene of the crime.
It is then that the villagers began remembering his father with words of acceptability, and even kindness. The father was basically a gentleman, they began saying. He merely robbed graves to feed himself. But look at his son, the beast, and the horrible things he does! No respect for the dead. None whatsoever!
And thus the late grave robber came to be well remembered on account of the doings of the son.
Bajwa took the country to the very edge. Retirement denied him the chance to push it over.*That chance now resides with Gen Asim Munir. If he pushes Pakistan over, that will be the end of Pakistan, but Bajwa's name will be redeemed. But if decides to pull Pakistan back, the country will be saved, but Bajwa's repair job on his reputation will have become so much wasted effort.*
We don't have more than a couple of months to wait in order to know what Gen Asim Munir is going to dump, and what it is that he will save.
*But the path he embarks on will become very clear in just about a fortnight.*
