landmark achievement of the approval of management and operational plans of CKNP, DNP and Wildlife Connectivity Corridor between Himalayan and Karakoram Ranges.
The approval of the Management and Operational Plans of Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP), Deosai National Park (DNP) and Wildlife Connectivity Corridor between Himalayan and Karakoram Ranges by the government of Gilgit Baltistan at its forum Wildlife Management Board (WLMB) chaired by the Chief Secretary GB is a landmark achievement towards the improved conservation and employing environment friendly management practices of the national parks in GB. This momentous accomplishment has been possible with the support from the Italian government under its initiatives for conservation of environment in Gilgit-Baltistan provided through AICS Pakistan executed through UNDP and implemented by EvK2CNR.
Protected areas require management and operational plans because they provide a framework for habitat protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable resource use. These plans enable effective wildlife monitoring, ecotourism through visitors’ management, and community engagement. It also formulates a robust mechanism of the waste management challenges underlying the responsibilities of all stakeholders visiting the fragile mountain, glacier, wetland and forest ecosystems. By addressing challenges such as climate change adaptation and illegal activities, they contribute to the long-term vision and collaborative efforts needed to ensure the sustainable health of protected areas.
EV-K2-CNR in collaboration with government institutions, community organizations have developed these operational and management plans which aims at the conservation of fragile of ecosystems in national parks and GB at large. This also included the formulation of the first ever management plan of the biodiversity corridor established between Himalayan and Karakoram ranges in Baltistan. These plans have received official approval from the Government of Gilgit Baltistan through the Wildlife Management Board (WLMP), chaired by the Chief Secretary. The approval was granted on October 6, 2023 which recently been notified.
These management plans can serve as a model for the other protected areas to adopt the practices for the conservation so that the challenges of climate change are addressed.

The Black Glacier

Hoper Glacier is a glacier located in the Nagar Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is one of the major glaciers in the region and is a popular tourist attraction due to its stunning beauty. The glacier is surrounded by snow-covered peaks, including the Rakaposhi and Diran mountains, which add to its picturesque setting.

The strange thing about the H-Glacier is its black tone which makes it stand out among the others. The black color is due to the presence of debris or impurities within the ice. The glacier collects rocks, sediments, or other materials as it moves downhill or through valleys, results in a darker appearance, such as a gray or black hue. These impurities come from the surrounding terrain and are carried by the ice as it flows.

Hoper Glacier is fed by the Hoper River, which originates from the Barpu Glacier. The glacier flows down from an elevation of about 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) and stretches for approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) before ending at an altitude of about 2,900 meters (9,500 feet).

Aside from its breathtaking scenery, Hoper Glacier offers various recreational activities for adventurous tourists. Visitors can engage in trekking and hiking expeditions to explore the surrounding valleys and peaks. Additionally, the glacier is a gateway to the mesmerizing Rakaposhi Base Camp, which provides a thrilling trek for mountaineering enthusiasts.

Let's have a view of the black giant

The Savage Mountain.

Yesterday, I flew to K2 basecamp with my friend John Snorri’s family. His incredible wife Lina, his daughter, along with two sisters, braved the journey to Pakistan to heal, to find closure and to ideally bring their beloved John home. While the journey to Pakistan has been a great success, the mission to bring John down from where he rests was not. He remains where I last saw him less than 200m below the summit of K2.

I’ve been very quiet lately. Unable to say the things I want to say. I have obsessively chased the truth and explored almost every layer of this story while coming to terms both with K2 winter and our search expedition last summer with Sajid that my brother Pasang Kaji (PK) Sherpa and I led. The Savage Mountain destroyed me - or perhaps I destroyed myself? The unbecoming of the self that I knew has been the greatest gift. A gift that cost me nearly everything. But alas, I’m on the other side. As much as this has been cathartic for the families, it has also been profoundly healing for me.

We saw 150+ summits on K2 this season which included a long conga line of humans directly under and around the bend from the bottleneck. If one piece of that serac would have released, it would have been fatal for many. They were lucky. Very lucky. And thankfully so. K2 was kind.

It takes courage to walk into the fire. Loss, grief, trauma, fracture of the psyche - it’s a lethal cocktail that is enough to destroy anyone. This family’s bravery has inspired me beyond feeling and words. I’m grateful to be here, to contribute and support them.

As impossible as it’s been, I’m also grateful the Universe placed me here. It’s changed my life forever.

Thank you, Pakistan. Thank you Lina and the Snorri family. 🇮🇸❤️🇵🇰

One love.

Summit 🏔🏔

I already climbed K2 as fixing team leader before winter in 2021, I felt familiar to this gigantic mountain when I always come over here.
In winter it was all historic to cross all these section to reach on summit but this year I came up with my team member for Elite Exped]] K2 expedition on a job to guide to the summit.
On July 22, 2022 I made my fourth summit with my brother and after heading back to basecamp I already make up mind to go again for testing my limit which was fun though.

On July 28,2022 I reached the summit and got my record of highest number of summit ascent of K2.
I can now proudly input the number 5 for the summit ascent of K2 in my portfolio.

But remind guys! Records are made to be broken!

China will set up a “separation line” on the peak of Mount Everest to avoid possible Covid-19 infections by climbers from virus-hit Nepal, state media reported, after dozens were taken ill from the summit's base camp.

Over 30 sick climbers were evacuated from base camp on the Nepalese side of the world's highest peak in recent weeks as Nepal faces a deadly second wave, raising fears that the virus might ruin a bumper climbing season.

Tibetan authorities told reporters at a press conference they would take the “most stringent epidemic prevention measures” to avoid contact between climbers on the north and south slopes or at the top, reported the official Xinhua news agency.

Mountain guides will set up dividing lines on the summit of the mountain before allowing mountaineers to start the gruelling climb up, the head of the Tibet Mountaineering Association was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
