Laal ReMarx is a political podcast by a group of Leftist organizers and activists from Pakistan that tries to take on pressing issues of Pakistani society and beyond, that affect all of us yet garner very limited debate within a public sphere only a select few have access to (excluding, quite clearly, us as well). In generating these discussions, Laal
Remarx will attempt to privilege the politics and voices of the destitute and the disempowered; any and all segments of the population living lives of vulnerability and precarity- those who most need alternative channels for their voices. The aim of Laal ReMarx is to popularize discussions on issues and perspectives excluded from the mainstream in Pakistan and in doing so, generate discussions with a broader audience that has a limited or distorted understanding of Left ideology and politics. Laal ReMarx will also focus on political practice: It will host a range of people, including activists, organizers, teachers, workers and others involved in different processes to change society in a progressive direction. The conversations with these people will be aimed at providing alternative perspectives on society and politics, showcase possibilities of political praxis beyond mere commentary and rhetoric, and push back against the rising tides of jingoism and fascism in our society. As a virtual space, Laal ReMarx will serve as a digital chronicle against the hegemonic corporate media and its 24/7 political talk shows where the politics of state institutions and mainstream parties are privileged and presented as relevant to the interests of the impoverished majority. We hope to contribute to the reintroduction of Left politics in Pakistan in a political arena saturated with personality and patronage, where there is no sense of urgency to resolve the issues that inhibit and constrain the lives of so many. Laal ReMarx is an initiative of activists associated with the Awami Workers Party (AWP) Islamabad-Rawalpindi Chapter.
