08/09/2023

The world’s largest offshore wind turbine has achieved a milestone by setting a new record for electricity generation by an individual wind turbine in a single day, after opening during typhoon conditions. The rotor diameter of Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW intelligent wind turbine is 252 meters (827 feet). Additionally, it covers an area that can be swept that is nearly 50,000 square meters i.e. 538,195 square feet—seven regular football fields. The hub of the turbine is 146 meters (479 feet) tall, which is equivalent to a 50-story structure. The record was achieved on September 1 according to state-owned power company China Three Gorges (CTG), which broke all the previous records set by Danish company Vestas in August.

The 16 MW wind turbine was installed in the offshore Hangpu Liuao Phase 2 wind farm in the Southeastern Fujian province and came into public on July 19. Zhangpu Liuao Phase 2 is in the process to developed and constructed by the state-owned power corporation China Three Gorges (CTG). In September, the wind turbine came up against wind speeds of around 85 km/h which is 53 mph, and a hike of 23.56 meters per second in the face of Typhoon Haikui. As per the South China Morning Post, “While traditional wind turbines automatically lock their blades to avoid overload when wind speeds exceed 25 meters per second, this intelligent unit can adjust its blades in real time, continuing to generate electricity.” At full speed, each blade of the turbine can reach up to 70% faster than the speed of sound, and its rotor has a diameter of 252 meters, more than twice that of the London Eye.

You will soon be able to get some gaming action while scrolling through YouTube, well not exactly action, but just some fun mini games that can be played directly on the YouTube homepage as a good way to pass some time.

YouTube is reportedly testing a new gaming feature named ‘Playables’. Only available to a select few lucky users, the feature is available on a separate tab on the homepage of both the YouTube mobile application and the desktop website.

Users however are still not able to see a list of published titles, but news publisher ‘9to5Google’ have highlighted one game named ‘Stack Bounce’ in particular. It’s a simple arcade-type game where users have to control a ball which will smash through rings provided the user performs some well-timed clicks.

07/09/2023

The launch of the 5G spectrum in Pakistan in 10 months is nearly impossible. According to the scenario, due to economic uncertainty, the ongoing depreciation and constant devaluation of Pakistani currency against the dollar, and a lack of technology to support the 5G spectrum in the nation, local mobile operators are not ready to purchase 5G licenses.

The federal Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has also failed till now in bringing any 5G technology for the auctioning of licenses for the said spectrum. Umer Saifafter conducting a meeting with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority announced the launch of 5G in Pakistan within 10 months. The questions asked by various reporters from Umer Saif through WhatsApp were: “The local network operators are not ready to buy the licenses under current economic conditions. How will the authority compensate them? Will they auction for less money and if so, how will the authority then build infrastructure for 5G spectrum? How else will the government facilitate local networks for the 5G spectrum? Secondly, the Ministry of IT has not yet issued any policy for a 5G license auction to PTA. The procedure itself is lengthy and takes months or even a year or more to complete. How is it possible under these circumstances to launch 5G within 10 months? Please comment”.

In recent developments surrounding the ever-entrepreneurial Elon Musk, his father, Errol Musk, has expressed deep concerns about his son’s safety. Errol’s apprehension stems from perceived threats by influential political figures, marking yet another chapter in Elon Musk’s tumultuous journey as a high-profile billionaire. Beyond this, we’ll explore Elon Musk’s controversial acquisition of Twitter, his involvement in international politics, and the persistent security challenges he faces.

Errol Musk, at the age of 77, has raised eyebrows by questioning a recent article in The New Yorker. This article posited that Elon Musk wields considerable influence over government decisions, particularly in areas such as Ukraine, social media, and electric vehicles. The piece also highlighted the crucial role of SpaceX’s Starlink satellites in the Ukraine conflict, further amplifying Musk’s global significance.

The article gained more traction when U.S. President Joe Biden hinted at the need to scrutinize Musk’s foreign connections, following the billionaire’s acquisition of Twitter. Titled ‘Elon Musk’s Shadow Rule,’ Errol Musk described the article as a “hit job” sponsored by a “shadow government,” aiming to tarnish his son’s reputation. He likened it to the preliminary softening of an enemy before an impending attack, a tactic to prepare the public for an assault.

The chip war is rising, and China and the U.S. compete against each other. China is reportedly preparing to introduce a new $40 billion investment funded by the government to subsidize its semiconductor industry. China competes with the U.S. and other tech giant countries to dominate high-end chip production. The $40 billion investment is the biggest of three launched by the China integrated circuit industry investment fund, also named the Big Fund. The fund will reportedly focus investment on machinery used to produce sophisticated chips, and its target is higher than comparable funds formed in 2014 and 2019.

Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, has pushed China to achieve self-sufficiency in semiconductors. The news circulating also indicates that the bipartisan CHIPS Act of the U.S. government granted $39 billion in industrial subsidies intended to increase local production of high-end chips. On the other hand, the U.S. and its allies have sought to limit China’s access to cutting-edge technologies out of concern that the Chinese government may use them to hasten its military modernization and intensify internal repression.

As we know, AI has taken the lead in almost every field. AI is everywhere, whether we talk about media, healthcare, financial institutions, or the education sector. Many companies are trying to incorporate AI into their daily routine. A novel study from the University of South Australia has discovered a range of metabolic biomarkers that could help identify cancer risks. According to the study, 84 indicators using machine learning to analyze data from 459,169 UK Biobank users could signal an increased cancer risk. Several markers also identified chronic liver or renal disease, highlighting the significance of examining the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of these mechanisms to look for any links to cancer.

Cancer is a significant health problem worldwide. Its critical early detection and management are essential for patients to recover quickly. Therefore, the early identification and treatment of liver cancer can benefit from using biomarkers. However, identifying and using biomarkers to minimize cancer risk might be difficult. Artificial intelligence is a valuable tool for research and potential clinical application since it has promised to detect and use biomarkers in managing liver cancer.
