Following the completion of the National Assembly's term, former Senator Anwarul Haque Kakar was sworn in as the caretaker prime minister on August 14. Babar Azam, the prominent cricketer from Pakistan, has been making headlines in the Asia Cup 2023. The recent ICC ODI Rankings reveal that Australia is leading the pack with 118 points, while Pakistan closely trails at second place, just two points behind. Meanwhile, arch-rivals India secure the third position with 115 points. A significant clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 2, marking their return to ODIs since the 2019 World Cup. The encounter is expected to continue on September 10 during the Asia Cup.

An intriguing opportunity looms for Pakistan to confront India as the top-ranked ODI team next month. The "Men in Green" are primed to engage Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka from August 22 to August 26. If Pakistan sweeps the series with a 3-0 victory, they will ascend to the top of the ICC ODI rankings with 119 points, overtaking Australia.

However, the series outcome holds ramifications for Pakistan, even if they experience a single defeat. A 2-1 series win would cost them valuable points, causing them to slip below India in the ICC rankings. In this scenario, India and Pakistan would be tied at 115 points, but India would lead due to decimals. Alternatively, if Pakistan loses the series with a 1-2 margin, they would fall to the third spot with 111 points.

While Pakistan is the favorite to secure victory in the series against Afghanistan, it's worth noting that Afghanistan is no pushover in white-ball cricket. Although it's a remote possibility, a 3-0 victory for Afghanistan would further erode Pakistan's points, pushing them to 111 while maintaining their third rank. In such an outcome, Afghanistan would remarkably rise to the fifth position for the first time. Even if Afghanistan achieves a 2-1 series win, they would surpass Bangladesh to claim the seventh position. Moreover, a 3-0 triumph would elevate Afghanistan above Bangladesh, South Africa, and England in the rankings.

Acting under the authority of Section 190(2) of the Penal Code, the court has directed local law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action against individuals involved in the trade and use of horns.

Fawad Alam, a seasoned Pakistani cricketer, has decided to bring his international career with Pakistan to a close and embark on a new phase in the United States. At the age of 37, he is set to embrace a fresh role as a 'local' player for the Chicago Kingsmen in the Minor League Cricket T20.

This move follows a growing trend among Pakistani players, with notable names such as Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Saif Badar, and Mohammad Mohsin, who have transitioned to the United States to pursue their cricketing ambitions.

In the recent year, Alam was part of the Pakistani team in three Test matches against Australia, contributing 33 runs in four innings. He also played in a single Test against Sri Lanka, scoring 25 runs. Subsequently, he was omitted from the Test squad.

Despite his Test debut in 2009 with a century against Sri Lanka, Alam saw limited opportunities, featuring in only two more matches before being dropped from the national squad.

After more than a decade on the sidelines, the left-handed batsman finally made a much-awaited return to the Pakistan team during the England tour in 2020.

Throughout his Pakistan cricket journey, Alam appeared in 19 Test matches, accumulating a total of 1011 runs at an average of 38.88. His achievements include five centuries and two fifties.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has been arrested from his Zaman Park residence shortly after the Islamabad sessions court sentenced him to three-year imprisonment and disqualified him for five years in the Toshakhana criminal case.

The court declared that the crime against Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case has been proven, stating that he filed false details with the election commission and has been found guilty of corrupt practices.

His arrest warrants were also issued, and he has been fined Rs100,000. Imran Khan is expected to be shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir praised the "unique" and strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, stating that their militaries are "brothers in arms." He made these remarks during the celebration of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

It seems like a dream come true for Pakistanis as neighboring country India is on the verge of bringing the electric vehicle giant Tesla to its shores, offering the possibility of buying a Tesla car at the price of a Toyota Corolla.

According to reports, Tesla officials are scheduled to meet with India's commerce minister this month to explore the establishment of a factory in the country. The main aim of this factory would be to manufacture an affordable electric car, priced at approximately $24,000 (PKR 6,885,355), which is the equivalent of a Toyota Corolla in Pakistan.

Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim Limited (FFBL) reported an exchange loss of Rs4.6 billion in Q1 2023 and Rs65 million in Q2. Despite facing ongoing business headwinds, the company achieved a gross profit of Rs4.5 billion in Q2 2023. On a consolidated basis, FFBL reported a gross profit of Rs7.9 billion, with an operating profit of Rs5.3 billion and a profit after tax of Rs1.4 billion for the period ending June 30, 2023.

The improved performance was attributed to the impressive business growth of Fauji Foods Limited, which achieved a profit after tax for the first time since its acquisition in 2015. However, FFBL faced challenges due to importing its primary raw material, Phosphoric Acid, which increased costs and led to lower earnings in Q2 2023 compared to the previous year.

FFBL recorded a 1.02% YoY growth in its top line, reaching Rs81.23 billion, but the cost of sales increased by 8.98% YoY, impacting the gross profit, which declined by 26.89% YoY to Rs13.06 billion in the first half of 2023. Additionally, the company's finance costs surged by 2.27 times YoY, reaching Rs7.12 billion, mainly due to higher interest rates and a carryover of higher DAP inventory.

In the ongoing first Test match against Sri Lanka, Saud Shakeel has created history by scoring his maiden double century in Test cricket. This remarkable innings has put the Men in Green in a commanding position, as they are set to take a substantial first-innings lead.

Playing in Galle, Shakeel displayed immense determination and resilience as he remained unbeaten on 208 runs. His innings consisted of 19 fours, and he faced a total of 361 balls. Shakeel's double century makes him the first Pakistani batsman to achieve this feat in Sri Lanka. He was well-supported by Agha Salman, with whom he shared a crucial partnership of 177 runs for the sixth wicket.
