The Publications Society is finally opening its doors to new members! With emphasis on literary arts, the society aims to cultivate a sense of community through journaling, blogging, open mic performances, contests, & workshops. Our goal is to not only provide a space where students can express their ideas freely & explore their interest in writing, but also showcase their work to the world!

There are three main departments to choose from: graphics-design, promotions, & writing. Post-deadline, applicants will be interviewed. If you are applying to the graphics-design department, please make sure to attach previous work in the designated field. More details mentioned in the link below.

Hello again everyone! You'll all be thrilled to hear that the Publications Society is back with the 5th talk in the series, Doctors Who Write. This time we have invited an esteemed speaker, Dr. Asad Mian. Dr. Asad Mian is a Paediatrician and ER physician by profession. He is currently an associate professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. He has also a massive advocate of entrepreneurship initiating the CCIT forum and is also the director of it. He has also written two books "Medjack" and "The Itinerant Observer".

Hello everyone!
Publications Society is excited to announce the fourth talk in our Doctors Who Write Series. Our speaker is Dr Haider Warraich, an AKU graduate from the class of 2009. Dr Warraich is Associate Director of Heart Failure at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Associate Physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. He is also prolific author, and has written multiple books – one of which he wrote while studying at AKU! – as well as being a regular contributor to the New York Times, Washington Post, The Atlantic, and others. Great news everyone! Publications Society is now accepting applications for new members!
Our society is about showcasing the work of our creative and talented students. We focus on the literary arts which encompasses journaling, blogging, creative writing and poetry.

Being a member enables you to participate in all of our writing workshops, activity planning, editing of our very own AKU student magazine (Magminimus), and more exciting projects that will be revealed soon!

We look forward to accepting applications in our three main departments- writing, promotions and graphic design. We are especially looking forward to *graphic design members* so please apply if you have any experience. We will be conducting interviews based on the applications that we receive in the link below.
If you’re applying for a position in graphic design, please send some of your past work by attaching it in the online application form. Attaching a CV is optional. Please stay tuned for more information!

A neurologist by profession and a writer by inclination, Dr. Shafqat has co-authored “Cutting Edge,” the autobiography of Javed Miandad. He has also published cricket columns in Cricinfo, DAWN, Wisden, and a range of other publications. Furthermore, Dr Shafqat has also written books titled, “Breath of Death” and “Rivals.” A member of AKU’s inaugural medical college class (1988), he has trained at Duke and Harvard and been serving on the AKU faculty since 2000.

Writers, enthusiasts, veterans, beginners —don’t miss this! Publications Society introduces a series of talks with real medical doctors that also chose to write (and publish!) in their careers. Turns out it *can* be done!

Our first guest is Dr. Usman T. Malik, AKU Class of 2005. Dr. Malik doesn’t just write; he writes speculative fiction —science fiction, horror, jinns and Mughal descendants and a Pakistan gone by, where genres bend and reality shifts.
He is the first Pakistani to win the Bram Stoker Award for Short Fiction (2014) and has won the British Fantasy Award (2016). He has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award (2016), nominated again for the Stoker Award (2018), and has twice been a finalist for the Nebula Award. His short fiction has been published in The Apex Book of World SF, Nightmare, and others.

Whether you write for catharsis, validation, expression, publish in a scratch pad or online or not at all, or if you want to bide the extra hour before Iftaar —join us!
