The Pakistani rupee surged against the US dollar Tuesday during intraday trade after the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) executive board revived the much-awaited bailout programme for Islamabad.
The rupee appreciated by 2.42 to 219.50 against the US dollar during intraday trade in the interbank market, down from Monday's close of 221.92.

A session court on Monday led the proceedings of a sedition case against PTI leader Shahbaz Gill where the latter's counsel said that his client was ready to tender apology.
During the hearing, Gill's counsel said that the complainant -a city magistrate- has blamed the PTI leader of sedition and also nominated five other people in his statement to police.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts Nowshera and Charsadda today in continuation of his trip to the flood-hit areas of Pakistan. Internet users are expected to face more outages in the coming days as draining out of floodwater, which is causing cuts and damages to fibre-optic cables, continues in upper Sindh. A technical report submitted by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom on Wednesday stated that repeated internet outages were mainly because of flood relief efforts in Sukkur division where fibre-optic cables were being damaged mainly by heavy machinery used to clear water in Sindh.

US dollar continues to gain ground against Pakistani rupee. Rupee changes hands at 218.5 during intraday trade. The Pakistani rupee continued its free fall against the US dollar ahead of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) executive board meeting scheduled for August 29 in Washington.
During Wednesday's intraday trade in the interbank market, the rupee was changing hands at 218.5 after losing 0.84 against the dollar, down from yesterday's close of 217.66.

The Islamabad Police, in a statement, confirmed that Jameel Farooqui was taken into custody after a case was filed against him at the Ramna Police Station.According to the police, he had falsely accused the Islamabad Police in his v-log that the police had physically and sexually assaulted Shehbaz Gill.
