Chief selector Wahab Riaz on monday announced an 18-member Pakistan Test squad for the tour to Australia comprising three matches scheduled from 14 December 2023 to 7 January 2024.
Left-handed opening batter Saim Ayub has earned his maiden call-up to the Test team after an impressive run in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24. The 22-year-old scored 553 runs in four matches for Karachi Whites and had three centuries to his name, including a match-winning double century against Faisalabad in the final of the tournament.
Right-arm fast bowler Khurram Shahzad has also been awarded his maiden Test call-up, on the back of a successful domestic season thus far. The 23-year-old was the highest wicket-taker of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 with 36 wickets in eight matches at an average of 20.31 and picked up 13 wickets at 16.62 in the recently concluded Pakistan Cup.

Shortly after Babar Azam announced on Wednesday that he was stepping down as the Pakistan cricket captain in all formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board said Shan Masood was appointed Test captain while Shaheen Shah Afridi would lead the T20 side.
The cricket board also said it changed the portfolio of the entire coaching staff, including team director Mickey Arthur. It added that all coaches will continue to work in the National Cricket Academy while the board will announce the new coaching staff in due course for the upcoming series in Australia and New Zealand.

Pakistan have named their 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in October and November in India.
Fast bowler Naseem Shah has been replaced with Hasan Ali. He had suffered a shoulder injury during Asia Cup in a match against India on 11 September and was ruled out of the tournament.
Following thorough medical examinations and consultations with leading medical experts, Naseem has been advised to undergo surgery. He is expected to recover in three to four months.
The selectors have also named three traveling reserves in wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and fast bowler Zaman Khan.

Pakistan captain Nida Dar on Friday become only the fourth player from her country to play 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Women's ODIs 💫.
Dar achieved this feat during the opening match of three-match series against South Africa at National Stadium Karachi.
All-rounder Nida has played 16 ODIs against South Africa, scoring 246 runs, including three half-centuries and has taken 18 wickets with 4-15 her best against the opposition.
Before Nida, Bismah Maroof, Sana Mir and Javeria Khan have also achieved this unique feat.

Indian made history when its space agency ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander on the moon, making the country the first nation to reach the lunar south pole.
With this feat, the country becomes the fourth country, after China, US and Russia, to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon.
Chandrayaan-3 is expected to remain functional for two weeks, running a series of experiments including a spectrometer analysis of the mineral composition of the lunar surface following its landing.

Steven Finn has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The three-time Ashes series winner today confirmed in a statement that he has called time on his career, following a number of injuries.
Having spent most of his career with his home county Middlesex, Finn made the move to Sussex in 2022 and made 19 appearances that season, taking 21 wickets.
Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury that has kept him out of the game in 2023 and has now decided that it is time to call it a day on a magnificent 18-year career.
“Today I am retiring from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. I have been fighting a battle with my body for the last 12 months and have admitted defeat to it," Finn said in a statement.
The 34-year-old right-armer took 125 wickets at an average of 30.40 in 36 Test appearances between 2010 and 2016.
Finn also played 69 ODIs and 21 T20 internationals for England.

Pakistan announced squads for the ACC Men's Asia Cup and the three-match One-Day International series against Afghanistan.
An 18-player squad will take on Afghanistan in Sri Lanka from 22 till 26 August and it will be trimmed to 17 players for the Asia Cup, which begins from the Multan Cricket Stadium on 30 August when Pakistan play Nepal.

Imperial College London has decided o name its Central Library as the Abdus Salam Library in recognition of the Nobel Prize winning physicist.
Professor Salam joined Imperial in 1957. During his time, he set up the Theoretical Physics Department with the late Professor Paul T Matthews. He later shared the 1979 Nobel Prize for his contribution to the electroweak unification theory.
A formal launch and naming ceremony for the Abdus Salam Library will take place in the next academic year.

Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari was allegedly beaten up and arrested from her home on Saturday. The reports of her detention were confirmed by her daughter, lawyer Iman Mazari. Mazari's daughter tweeted about her mother's arrest saying, "Male police officers have beaten and taken my mother away. All I have been told is that Anti-Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her. Islamabad police disagreed with the version of Mazari's daughter, saying: "Dr Shireen Mazari was arrested by female police officers as per the law at the request of the anti-corruption department. News of any mishandling is baseless." In the footage of her arrest, Mazari can be seen being dragged out of a car by female police personnel while she could be heard protesting: "No. Don't touch me." Unidentified voices in the footage could be heard telling her that "there is no issue" and the matter could be discussed "peacefully". "You are using violence. Don't you take my phone ... you b*****d," Mazari could be heard saying in response.
