The world's biggest EV-battery maker CATL (a Chinese company) unveiled a new battery technology that it claims can deliver more than 997 km (620 miles) of driving range. That is an impressive 50% more than the Tesla’s Model S.

The Qilin battery can pack large amounts of energy into a compact package thanks to advancements in both battery chemistry and packaging. The battery has an energy density of 255 watt-hours per kilogram, according to CATL and goes into production as soon as 2023.

What’s even more amazing is that this high capacity battery is suppose to be capable of fast charging up to 80% (from 10%) in only 10 minutes according to the manufacturer. Advancements like this can really propel the global electric car industry adding more acceptance to the technology given its convenience, economy and environmental benefits.

This Sunday people woke up to closed shops and bakeries in Lahore. Many can’t even find basic groceries such as milk and eggs for breakfast. The Punjab government has imposed a lockdown in Lahore amid the energy crisis as an attempt to curtail the shortfall, though one may ponder why basic fundamentals such as groceries are not exempt to this. Only pharmacies seem to be allowed to remain open. Many businesses are not even able to make grocery deliveries as their shops and warehouses have also been ordered to remain closed.

PM Shehbaz Sharif announced the ‘Super Tax’ on Friday and said it was a tough economic decision taken at a time when the country was near default. The sectors which will be subject to the tax include steel, sugar, cement, oil, gas, fertilisers, LNG terminals, banking, textile, automobile, ci******es, chemicals and beverages.

The premier also announced the imposition of another tax on citizens who earn an annual income of Rs. 150 million or higher.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre, 53 people in Karachi tested positive for the virus on June 16,. This number more than doubled within a week as 138 people tested positive in the city on June 22.

Karachi has reported the highest number of Covid cases from across the country, while the second-highest cases were recorded in Abbottabad with a positivity rate of 8.7pc. Overall in the country 268 new Covid cases have been detected.

The federal government has increased advance tax on fiber optic to 15% and custom duties on telecom industry equipment to 20%. Telecommunication officials have informed senators during a session of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that people can expect ‘phone call load shedding’ in coming days.

Phone call load shedding means outages in cellular services for certain time periods in the day, just like electricity outages. This is to manage loads within a given infrastructure. If this does happen, it can disrupt communication for everyone and prove to be a hinderance in daily business and personal activities. The implications on emergency communication can also be imagined. But will this actually happen or not, that is yet to be seen.

After a plenary session held in Berlin, Germany between 14-17 June 2022, a statement has been issued that Pakistan has met all 34 items in its action list and now an onsite visit is to be conducted. The new Apple MacBook Air has been announced and pre-orders are said to have started. What is so exciting about this laptop is that they have made such a slim notebook a mega-powerhouse through it’s extremely capable and super-efficient M2 chip.

The M1 chip revolutionized computing power to energy efficiency in processors back in 2020 when it was launched and completely disrupted the industry by setting a new bench mark standard for all others. Now the M2 has further improved the M1’s performance by over 20% in CPU performance and almost 35% in GPU performance.

Also, you get more than an all day battery life (with 18 hours of video playback), a slightly larger screen size through narrowing bezels and a renewed straight shape with new colors. Also the MacBook Air M2 features better speakers, a 1080 we**am and more 100nits brighter screen than its predecessor.

Sadly, with the dollar rate flying high the price is one of it’s main weaknesses in Pakistan. Having said that, if it you have the budget and need something this capable and well designed, look no further.
