Airbnb has banned house parties as part of its efforts to comply with limits on gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Occupancy will be limited to 16 people, with a few exceptions for some venues.

Lockdown parties hosted in Airbnb properties led the UK's Bed and Breakfast Association to warn it was putting communities at risk.

The firm says it will pursue legal action if guests or hosts break the rules.

"Instituting a global ban on parties and events is in the best interest of public health," Airbnb said in a statement.

It added that 73% of its listings explicitly banned parties but some hosts allowed small parties such as baby showers or birthday celebrations.

Despite this, Airbnb acknowledged that some of its guests had chosen to "take bar and club behavior to homes sometimes rented through our platforms".

Google in $5bn lawsuit for tracking in 'Incognito' mode.

Google has been sued in the US over claims it illegally invades the privacy of users by tracking people even when they are browsing in "private mode".

The class action wants at least $5bn (£4bn) from Google and the owner Alphabet.

Many internet users assume their search history isn't being tracked when they view in private mode, but Google says this isn't the case.

The search engine denies this is illegal and says it is upfront about the data it collects in this mode.

The proposed class-action likely includes "millions" of Google users who since 1 June 2016 browsed the internet in a private mode according to law firm Boies Schiller Flexner who filed the claim on Tuesday in federal court in San Jose, California.

Twitter allows staff to work from home 'forever'

Twitter has told staff that they can work from home "forever" if they wish as the company looks towards the future after the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision came as the social media giant said its work-from-home measures during the lockdown had been a success.

But it also said it would allow workers to return to the office if they choose when it reopens.

Earlier this month Google and Facebook said their staff can work from home until the end of the year.

Twitter said: "The past few months have proven we can make that work. So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen."

Google Meet Can Now Be Accessed via Gmail.

Google Meet video conferencing service has been integrated into Gmail. A few users are seeing the new option to start a meeting using Google Meet in the left sidebar of Gmail on Web. This new feature looks to tackle recent competition from the Zoom video conferencing app during these times of social distancing and lockdowns. Google Meet was earlier available to enterprises and education customers via G Suite, but recently Google made it available for free to everyone with a Google account. Google Meet free version lets you host up to 100 participants for each of your virtual meetings.

The Gmail integration of Google Meet has been spotted in a few users' accounts. Google's support page suggests that only Gmail for work or school accounts can access it for now. The report says that the rollout of this Google Meet integration in Gmail has begun, and some users are able to spot it already. The new Meet integration shows up in the left sidebar panel, and it allows users to ‘start a meeting' or ‘join a meeting' without having to switch between apps. The tech giant looks to ease the process of starting a video meeting with this new feature.

Big Tech is coming for Zoom: Google makes video chatting service Meet free

It was only a matter of time before the tech giants came for the newest market darling, video conferencing company Zoom, which has boomed in usage during the coronavirus crisis.

Last week it was Facebook. This week, it’s Google.

Google leveled its gaze at Zoom on Wednesday by making its own video chat tool, Google Meet, free for anyone. Meet, which was previously available to businesses who were customers of the company’s G Suite products, allows one host and up to 100 participants on each call.

Facebook announced its own group video conferencing service last week, which is also free and hosts up to 50 people at a time. Facebook’s Messenger Rooms is launching over the next few weeks.

Spotify hits 130 million subscribers amid Covid-19

Spotify has reached 130 million paid subscribers, despite initial concerns over how the Covid-19 crisis could affect listening habits.

The music-streaming platform says it gained six million subscribers in the first quarter of 2020.

It said the figures fell into the higher end of what had been predicted before the coronavirus outbreak.

But analysts have warned Spotify's quarterly results may not be as positive as the company suggests.

Coronavirus: Viral WhatsApp messages 'drop 70%'.

WhatsApp has been key to the spread of misinformation during the pandemic, but Whatsapp was trying its best to stop the spread of fake news.

WhatsApp says it has seen a drop of 70% in "highly forwarded" messages - the kind that may spread misinformation about the coronavirus.

The World Health Organization has said the spread of fake news about the outbreak is an "info-demic".

And two weeks ago, WhatsApp stopped messages sent between individual users five times or more than being posted to more than one chat group at a time.

But experts say it still has more to do in the battle against misinformation.

“WhatsApp is committed to doing our part in tackling viral messages," a spokesman for the messaging platform said.

"This change is helping keep WhatsApp a place for personal and private conversations."

Fortnite is one of the most popular battle royale games. The game is available on multiple platforms including Android, iOS PS4, PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. For smartphones, the game was first introduced in iOS and it later found its way to Android.
While iOS users were easily able to download the game via the Apple App Store, Android users had to struggle to download the APK file from the Epic Games website. Not anymore. After over 18 months, the company has finally released the game on the Google Play Store. This means that the users can now head over to the store and just tap on install to download the game onto their phone.

Apple and Google announced new updates on Friday to their proposed system that will enable iOS and Android phones to trace the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. The updated system includes security and privacy enhancements that representatives from governments and public health authorities have asked for, the companies said. Apple and Google’s APIs will launch in the coming weeks. The companies previously said they hope to launch in mid-May.

Facebook is one big source of data about millions of users around the world. After suffering from one of the biggest data scandals of the decade, security researchers from Cyble recently reported that data of 267 million users from the social media site has been leaked on the dark web and it is available for a pretty affordable price.

As of now, the cause of this data breach is unknown. However, Cyble reports that it might be a result of leakage in third-party API or scrapping. They also said that as the data contains personal and sensitive information of the users, it can be used by cyber attackers for phishing and spamming these users.
