Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade reflected on how Magic Johnson and Cookie Johnson’s example as parents to son EJ inspired them when raising Zaya Wade.
Magic Johnson is not just leading a legacy on the court, but also in the hearts of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade.
In an April 21 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gabrielle and Dwyane touched on how Cookie Johnson and Magic's actions as parents to their son EJ Johnson—who publicly came out as gay in 2013—helped shape their journey with Zaya Wade, 14, who publicly came out as transgender in 2020.
"It's all about perseverance and putting your family first and loving every member of your family equally and out loud. And they showed us the way," Gabrielle shared. "They were the first people we called, 'OK, we're moving to L.A., what school do you guys think is the best school for Zaya?' And they gave us the blueprint."
Dwyane also feels that Magic served as an idol for him as a parent.
"When I seen a Black man, a professional athlete, stand up proud of his child, no matter what they're doing in life, just being proud of who they are and who they've come to be," Dwyane said, "it makes it easier for me to say, 'I saw one of my idols do it, a big brother, I can do the same.'"
Reflecting on their own experience, Magic explained to ET that accepting EJ came as second nature.
"We've always been people who try to do the right thing and do the thing we were supposed to do," Magic said. "No way we were not gonna support our son. No way we were gonna not love him, as we tell him, ‘Be who you want to be, we gonna love you regardless, we gonna support you.'"
Magic feels that inspiring Dwyane and Gabrielle is yet another "blessing."
"So, thank God we have influenced people, whether it's on the court, off the court and just in our everyday walking life," Magic shared. "If we've done that, then we have been a blessing."

Looks like Zendaya is overjoyed to have Tom Holland on her side. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Zendaya discussed what it means to have Holland's love and support. "I think it's great to have that support and love around you, because you need that," Zendaya said of having her Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star and boyfriend to help her detach from the heavy role she's taken on in the HBO Max drama.
She further said as per ET, "This isn't an easy job, so it's good to have that to free you up from it every now and then." On the show Euphoria, the Dune actress portrays Rue, a recovering drug addict in high school who must balance the challenges of staying clean with tough relationships. However, Zendaya also addressed a few speculations surrounding the programme, such as whether or not Tom starred in a minor cameo appearance during season two. She didn't reveal much opting for the cryptic, 'Who knows? The world may never know.'
While Zendaya would neither confirm nor deny Holland's presence on the show, Holland told IMDb in December that he desired a role in the HBO drama. "Listen, I have been petitioning for this for a long time and it has not happened yet and I'm very disappointed," Holland said at the time, before sharing that he’s visited the Euphoria set "at least 30 times this season."
On the other hand, while the show has been renewed for a third season, Zendaya told ET Wednesday night that speculations that it won't return until 2024 "might be true."

‘Best therapeutic choice’: WHO backs Pfizer’s COVID antiviral
UN health agency says Paxlovid ‘strongly recommended’ for patients with non-severe disease, but at risk of hospital admission.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given its backing to Pfizer’s Paxlovid treatment for COVID-19 after studies showed the antiviral pill reduced the risk of high-risk patients being admitted to hospital by 85 percent.
The WHO announced on Thursday it was making a “strong recommendation” for the use of Paxlovid – a combination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir – for people with mild and moderate COVID-19 but at risk of hospital admission, calling it the “best therapeutic choice for high-risk patients to date”.
The new recommendation followed two trials involving nearly 3,100 patients that showed treatment with Paxlovid reduced the risk of hospitalisation by 85 percent, equivalent to a potential cut in hospital admissions in that group of 84 people per 1,000, it said.
Cases of COVID-19 continue to fall around the world, but the disease continues to take a toll on older people, those with pre-existing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, and the unvaccinated. The WHO has been adding more drugs to its list of recommended treatments as the pandemic has progressed, backing arthritis drug baricitinib in January as the Omicron variant surged.
In recommending Paxlovid, the WHO expressed concern that low- and middle-income countries could struggle to source sufficient supplies of the drug.
“WHO is extremely concerned that – as occurred with COVID-19 vaccines – low- and middle-income countries will again be pushed to the end of the queue when it comes to accessing this treatment,” it said in a statement.
The agency noted a “lack of transparency in bilateral deals” made by Pfizer and that, while the US drugmaker had a licensing agreement with the Medicines Patents Pool, there were limits on the number of countries that would benefit from

Phoenix Ghost: What we know about the US’s new drones for Ukraine
The Pentagon says the Phoenix Ghost tactical unmanned aerial system was designed mainly for striking targets.
The United States has disclosed details of its latest military aid package to be used by Ukraine’s forces in the country’s east after Russian forces this week launched a full-scale offensive in the region.
The new $800m assistance package includes a new unmanned aerial weapons system, or drone, dubbed the Phoenix Ghost.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the drones, which are produced by a US company, Aevex Aerospace, are particularly well suited for the fight in Ukraine’s east, in the flat and open terrain of the region known as Donbas.
“Without getting into the specifications, but the kinds of things this drone can do lend itself well to this particular kind of terrain,” Kirby told reporters on Thursday.
“I think I’m just going leave it at that. But its purpose is akin to that of the Switchblade … which is basically a one-way drone, an attack drone. And that’s essentially what this is designed to do”.
Drones such as the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 and the US-made Switchblade have so far played a key role in the Ukrainian forces’ defence against the Russian invasion.
Not much else is known about the Phoenix Ghost drones, including their range and precise capabilities.
Kirby, however, did say that the drones, which have not yet been delivered to Ukraine, are equipped with onboard cameras.
“It can also be used to give you a sight picture of what it’s seeing, of course. But its principal focus is attack,” he said.
He added that the systems had been in development since before Russia’s invasion of neighbouring Ukraine on February 24.
“But we will continue to move that development in ways that are attuned to Ukrainian requirements for unmanned aerial systems of a tactical nature in eastern Ukraine,” he added.

After a walkout by some Western countries over the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Indonesia is working out its strategy for November’s summit.
Medan, Indonesia – Indonesia is “in consultation” with other members of the G20 amid growing calls for Russia to be barred from the economic forum’s November summit in Bali.
Some members of the intergovernmental group of 19 countries and the European Union have been threatening to boycott the event if Russian President Vladimir Putin and delegates from Moscow are allowed to attend, leaving Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who is better known as Jokowi and holds the annual presidency this year, in a potentially fraught position.
“Sadly, this is President Jokowi’s fate,” Kosman Samosir, a lecturer in international law and vice dean of the law faculty at Santo Thomas Catholic University in Medan, Indonesia, told Al Jazeera. “Of course this had to happen now, when Indonesia has the presidency, and has to face the prospect of expelling Russia or risk members boycotting and the whole forum failing.”
According to Angelo Abil Wijaya, the head of project management and research at Y20 Indonesia, the official youth engagement group to the G20 Leaders Summit, the stakes could not be higher.
“Indonesia has invested a lot in its presidency at the G20, and has prepared for this presidency for years,” he told Al Jazeera.
“Indonesia wants its presidency to be successful. In order to be successful, the G20 should be attended by 20 of its members. Of course we want to see the success of the G20 Indonesia, not G19, or other combinations of Gs that include less than 20 members.”
The G20 not only includes the developed economies such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, which have moved to impose tough sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, but also countries such as China that have taken a more ambivalent approach.

Mike Tyson was observed hitting a fellow passenger on a flight from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night, leaving the victim with a bleeding forehead. According to TMZ, Tyson, 55, got into a fight because an "overly excited" fan in the row behind him began talking "in his ear" after the boxing great told him to "chill."
The alleged incident occurred onboard a flight from San Francisco International Airport to Florida around 10:30 p.m. local time. According to witnesses, Tyson was initially "cool" with all of the passengers, even the one sitting behind him and his companion. The Baddest Man on the Planet even snapped a photo with one of them while being "patient" with the other in the row behind him. However, the passenger reportedly proceeded to "annoy" him, at which point the American allegedly launched a series of blows to his face, resulting in a bleeding forehead.
As per TMZ, a video was leaked that seemed to show Tyson throwing a flurry of strikes at the guy. According to sources close to the boxing legend, the passenger was "extremely intoxicated" and refused to stop harassing the heavyweight athlete. According to witnesses, Tyson exited the plane mere seconds afterwards. Following the event, the guy who was punched sought medical assistance and talked with the police.

Crypto Startup MoonPay Raises $87 Million From Justin Bieber, Maria Sharapova, and Others
Cryptocurrency payments startup MoonPay has raised $87 million from more than 60 high-profile investors including singer Justin Bieber, rapper Snoop Dogg, tennis player Maria Sharapova and actor Bruce Willis as the role of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in content creation and fan engagement expands.
The investments are part of the firm's Series A round, disclosed in November last year which valued the company at $3.4 billion (roughly Rs. 25,925 crore), MoonPay said on Wednesday.
More than 600 crypto startups have seen over $12.5 billion (roughly Rs. 95,310 crore) in venture capital funding so far this year, according to Alex McDougall, managing director at fund manager 3iQ Digital Assets.
MoonPay, which provides payment infrastructure for crypto and NFT transactions, expects content creators to increasingly use NFTs to market their work and engage with fans, chief executive officer Ivan Soto-Wright said.

NFT is a type of crypto asset that uses blockchain technology to record who owns a digital file, which could be an image, a video or a text.
Other investors in the company include rapper Aubrey Drake Graham and Adel Future Nur's company Dreamcrew, Gwyneth Paltrow-led Kinship Ventures, Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary-backed venture capital firm Sound Ventures, singer Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd and his manager Amir Esmailian.

Ghosts' Brandon Scott Jones Reveals What Isaac's Coming Out Meant to Him
In an exclusive chat with E! News, Ghosts star Brandon Scott Jones reflected on his character coming out after hundreds of years.
After centuries—and an entire season of television—of silence, Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) finally shared his truth on Ghosts.
During the April 21 finale, Isaac, the ghost of an American Revolutionary War captain, thought that his longtime crush (and former war rival) Nigel (John Hartman) had been "sucked off." For the record, that's what the ghosts call ascending.
But, as the episode came to a close, it was revealed that Nigel had not moved on, prompting Isaac to share his true feelings for the British specter.
"Nigel, wait," Isaac said in front of his fellow ghosts. "I like you."
A happy, but surprised Nigel responded, "You like me?"
"Yeah, please don't make me say it again," Isaac answered.
After Nigel confirmed that he liked Isaac too, the other ghosts celebrated that the two spirits had finally opened up to one another. And, if you're like us, you definitely fought back some tears during this moment.
We're not the only ones moved by this finale. During the red carpet for Ghosts' panel at PaleyFest LA on April 6, Brandon told E! News that this "scene meant a lot to me."
"I just want to shout out to our creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, they were so collaborative with it," he said. "And they were so willing to find the authenticity that we could bring."
Per Brandon, it was really important to him that moment feel "as real as possible," as they had been "teasing it all year."
Now that the finale has aired, Brandon is excited to see what's next for Isaac. "Next season, what does this mean for [Isaac]," he pondered. "You also get to explore something that, for me, was a little bit challenging."

Earth Day: Entourage’s Adrian Grenier Gives Tour Inside His Eco-Friendly Home
Adrian Grenier exclusively showed E! News how his Texas property makes use of the land in eco-friendly ways, from composting to a medicine wheel.
Adrian Grenier is showing how he makes every day Earth Day in his eco-friendly home.
The Entourage star exclusively gave E! News an inside look of the property outside of Austin, Texas.
"I started working with this piece of land about a year and a half ago," he told E! News' Daily Pop. "And I just want to show you a couple of features that I'm working on to not only help the Earth, but also my own sense of self-reliance and resilience."
The property includes a medicine wheel where various medicinal plants and herbs are grown in a specific circle on the land. Adrian shared, "When we're taking responsibility for ourselves and our wellness, we can start to utilize all of the natural ingredients from the earth that will heal us and make us healthy."
One of the smaller, yet impactful parts of Adrian's routine laundry detergent without plastic packaging. Instead of coming in pods or containers, the detergent is compacted into tablets. The tablets are also non-toxic, which is important for the greywater system, which takes gently-used water from laundry and showers, and transports it all to a garden.
"All the water from the laundry exits here, out into the food forest," he said. "So all of this is food. It's fruits, it's nuts, it's edibles. So of course we don't want anything toxic going into the earth."
Another way the home utilizes water is through the rainwater catchment which Adrian said "is the most environmentally friendly form of drinking water."
Like most eco-friendly homes, Adrian's property composts waste into "beautiful regenerative soil for the garden—for the land."
In every load of laundry and rain shower, Adrian makes life at home an Earth Day celebration.
