The government has given the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) permission to work on other financial matters, including the broadcasting rights of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), after which the matters related to the next edition of the PSL have accelerated.

The federal government had instructed the management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board a few days ago not to make any decision without the permission of the federal government which involved financial matters.

After this, the PCB had contacted the government for the sale of PSL broadcasting and other rights. PCB sources have confirmed that the board has received government permission on Tuesday, after which the technical bid for the Pakistan Super League has been opened. Financial bids will open next week, after which the decision on the broadcasting rights of the Pakistan Super League will be made.

The sources also said that a decision on the sale of digital rights will also be taken this week.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also accelerated preparations for the start of the Pakistan Super League from February 17.

The 9th edition of the PSL will start from Lahore on February 17, while its final will be played in Karachi on March 17.

Etzaz Hussain, a talented Pakistani-Norwegian midfielder, has received his Pakistani passport, officially opening the door for him to represent Pakistan on the international stage. Born in Oslo to Pakistani parents, Hussain has long been considered a potential star for the national team.

Hussain's family roots lie in the city of Kharian. This ancestral connection played a significant role in his eligibility to represent Pakistan on the international stage. His talent blossomed in Norway, where he started playing for local club Langhus. His exceptional skills caught the eye of Manchester United scouts, and in 2009, the 16-year-old found himself training alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes.

While he didn't make a first-team appearance for Manchester United, Hussain gained valuable experience in England. He returned to Norway in 2011, joining Vålerenga and then Fredrikstad, where he made his professional debut in 2012.

Hussain quickly established himself as a key player in the Norwegian league. His impressive performances earned him a move to Molde FK in 2017, where he helped the club win the Eliteserien title in 2022. In January 2023, he signed for Cypriot club Apollon Limassol, where he continues to showcase his talent.

For Pakistani football fans, Hussain's acquisition of a Pakistani passport is a significant development. He has long expressed his desire to represent Pakistan internationally, and with his eligibility now confirmed, the door is finally open.

However, the path to the national team is not without its challenges. Hussain will need to obtain FIFA clearance to switch his national allegiance, and he will face stiff competition for a place in the midfield.

Despite these challenges, Hussain's talent and experience are undeniable. His technical ability, vision, and passing range could add a much-needed touch of class to the Pakistani midfield. His inclusion in the national team would be a major boost for Pakistani football and serve as an inspiration to aspiring footballers everywhere.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sealed Centaurus Mall in an overnight raid.

The development came hours after a heated debate between Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit to Mangla. PM Shehbaz Sharif didn’t allow the AJK PM to speak during his speech.

Reports revealed that a team of CDA officials and local police raided the Centaurus Mall and expelled the administrative staff as well as guards, after which the building was sealed.

The CDA said the mall has been sealed over ‘illegal use’.

Earlier in October, the mall had caught fire for unknown reasons but a spokesperson for the AJK PM blamed the federal government for the fire in Centaurus Shopping Mall, which is owned by AJK PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas.

Talking to journalists, AJK PM’s spokesperson, Raja Usman, had claimed that the fire in Centaurus Mall was set deliberately as the federal government was doing political victimisation in light of the political situation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Tanvir Ilyas engaged in a verbal spat as the Pakistani premier inaugurated the refurbishment project of units five and six of Mangla dam on Monday.

In videos circulating on social media, Tanvir, who belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), can be seen trying to speak during the prime minister's speech. Shehbaz asked him to sit down and told him that they will talk later. However, AJK PM did not listen to him.

Shehbaz again asked Tanvir to remain silent, a request which met refusal from the AJK premier. This goes on for one more time. "Please, listen to me, for Azad Kashmir, I will talk to you, Mr prime minister, please sit down, I will talk to you," an agitated Shehbaz can be seen pleading.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has endorsed his son Moonis Elahi’s statement that former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa suggested that his PML-Q party should support PTI during opposition’s no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in March this year.

In an interview with a local TV channel on Sunday, CM Elahi said Gen Bajwa told him that going with Imran was a better option after he shared his reservations about joining PDM alliance as he “did not trust Sharif family”.

Elahi said he was wary of accepting the then opposition led by Sharif family’s offer to become Punjab chief minister in return for supporting no-trust motion against Imran Khan.

“I knew that they [Sharif] would not let me to continue [as chief minister] as they have betrayed me in the past,” he remarked.

The PML-Q leader said his son Moonis played a major role in convincing him to support PTI instead of joining Pakistan Democratic Movement alliance.

Moreover, Elahi said the then army chief, Gen (retd) Bajwa showed “him the right path” to support PTI.

RAWALPINDI:
The new army chief on Saturday said the military was ready to defend "every inch of our motherland" if attacked, during a visit to the Line of Control (LoC).

The visit came less than a week since General Asim Munir took charge as the 17th army chief of Pakistan at a ceremony held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on November 29.

The change of command ceremony took place after a gap of six years, as General Qamar Javed Bajwa, now retired, was given a three-year extension in 2019.

According to the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief interacted with officers and soldiers and appreciated their high morale, professional competence and combat readiness while performing their duties in challenging conditions.

"We have noticed highly irresponsible statements from Indian leadership on G-B & AJK recently. Let me make it categorically clear, Pakistan's armed forces are ever ready, not only to defend every inch of our motherland, but to take the fight back to the enemy, if ever, war is imposed on us," the COAS emphasised.

LAHORE: Former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Saturday said that the decision to extend former army chief retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure was a “mistake.”

In an interview with a private channel, the PTI chief said that his ouster exposed many people, adding that he knows the Sharif family for 40 years, and their only motive is to loot the nation and get NRO.

Imran Khan added that when these two families [Sharif and Zardari] came to power, Pakistan started to crumble, adding that PML-N’s Miftah Ismail and current Financial Czar Ishaq Dar were squabbling with each other on the state of the economy as the country headed towards a default.

“It was a mistake to give an extension to former army chief General (retired) Bajwa, and extensions should not be given in the military, but the situation was otherwise and he had no option,” he added.

Earlier today, Imran Khan while reacting to PTI’s leader and Senator Azam Swati’s arrest said that he expected that the new military leadership would have “dissociated” from retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s policies.

Taking to Twitter, the former premier stated that “The entire nation is shocked at the vindictive cruelty Senator Azam Swati is being subjected to, and for what crime?”
The PTI Chief asked that “For intemperate language and asking questions which is the right of anyone in a democracy?”

He further stated that internationally, Pakistan and its military were being perceived “increasingly negatively” because the incumbent federal government was “seen as a mere puppet government”.

BRUSSELS/WASHINGTON:
The Group of Seven (G7) nations and Australia said they had agreed a $60 per barrel price cap on Russian seaborne crude oil after European Union members overcame resistance from Poland and hammered out a political agreement earlier in the day.

The EU agreed the price after holdout Poland gave its support, paving the way for formal approval over the weekend.

The G7 and Australia said in a statement the price cap would take effect on December 5 or very soon thereafter.

The nations said they anticipated that any revision of the price would include a form of grandfathering to allow compliant transactions concluded before the change.

“The Price Cap Coalition may also consider further action to ensure the effectiveness of the price cap,” the statement read. No details were immediately available on what further actions could be taken.

The price cap, a G7 idea, aims to reduce Russia’s income from selling oil, while preventing a spike in global oil prices after an EU embargo on Russian crude takes effect on December 5.

Warsaw had resisted the proposed level as it examined an adjustment mechanism to keep the cap below the market price. It had pushed in EU negotiations for the cap to be as low as possible to squeeze revenues to Russia and limit Moscow’s ability to finance its war in Ukraine.

Polish Ambassador to the EU Andrzej Sados on Friday told reporters Poland had backed the EU deal, which included a mechanism to keep the oil price cap at least 5% below the market rate. US officials said the deal was unprecedented and demonstrated the resolve of the coalition opposing Russia’s war.

Details of the deal are due to be published in the EU legal journal on Sunday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the price cap would significantly reduce Russia’s revenues.

Russian Urals crude traded at around $67 a barrel on Friday.
