Hanwha Aerospace Completes Testing of Indigenous Engine for K9 SPH

Hanwha Aerospace has successfully concluded testing of its domestically developed 1,000-horsepower diesel engine for the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH).

The year-long testing program, conducted across multiple countries including South Korea and Egypt, covered over 10,000 kilometers under varied terrains and extreme conditions. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone in enhancing the global competitiveness of the K9 SPH with an entirely indigenous powertrain.

The new engine will be integrated into the K9A1EGY variant, which is set to be delivered to the Egyptian Armed Forces along with K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicles and K11 Fire Control Vehicles. These deliveries, part of a $1.7 billion contract signed in 2022, are scheduled to commence by the first quarter of 2026.
