Conference to Promote Positive Parenting.

Lahore March 10, 2022: PAHCHAAN in collaboration with Pakistan Pediatric Association (CRG-PPA) and Pakistan Alliance for Early Childhood arranged a workshop to promote positive parenting. Dr. Tufail Muhammad, Chairman CRG-PPA, welcomed the participants and in his opening remarks emphasized on the positive parenting practices among parents and caregivers. Ms. Khadija Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan Alliance for Early Childhood, shared the objectives and background of the workshop. Dr. Nausheen Hameed, Parliamentary Secretary Health, graced the occasion as a chief guest.
The workshop consisted of a panel discussion, two keynote speeches, question &answer session and conclusion. The panel included key professionals and experts in the field of Early Childhood Development, health, child protection and early learning. Below are the details of the panelists and the topics they covered: - Ms. Susan Andrew, Child Protection/Parenting Specialist, UNICEF who talked about Child Protection, Safeguarding and Parental Responsibilities. Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed, Department of Education UMT, Lahore who shared his experiences about Inclusive Practices of Upbringing children and what parents need to know Adverse Childhood. Prof. Junaid Rasheed, Prof Pediatric Medicine and Registrar University of Child Health Sciences described the age-appropriate Developmental Requirements of Children, Importance of 1st 1000 days, Child-growth Monitoring, Responsive Caregiving, Recognizing Danger Signs and Taking Timely Action, Prof. Dr. Shazia Maqbool, Professor Developmental Pediatrics University of Child Health Sciences, talked about positive parenting and child development. Mr. Muhammad Rafique Tahir, Former Joint Educational Advisor, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training and Sr. Education Advisor Rupani Foundation discussed the importance of Reading to Children, Creating Book Bonding, School Readiness. Ms. Mehek Naeem, Director Programme Office PAHCHAAN and PhD Scholar Special Education shared the findings of research projects on Mental Health and Well-being of Parents During COVID-19 and its Impact on Child Development and Dr. Kishwar Enam, Pediatrician Agha Khan University talked about the Digital Influences, Impact of Screen time on Child Development & Safeguarding, at the end of the panel talks, a question answer sessions was also conducted in which participants asked their questions and concerns about the parental issues and panelists answered their questions.
In the 2nd phase of the workshop, the keynote speakers, Prof Figen Sahin Dagli, Prof Pediatrics, past Board member ISPCAN – Turkey, shared the Turkish Experience about Promoting Positive Parenting. Ms. Jenny Gray, Consultant Child Protection, Past President ISPCAN – UK, spoke about the Helping Families overcome difficulties in raising young children. Conclusion, Way Forward & Vote of Thanks by Dr Naeem Zafar President PAHCHAAN, Convener CRG-PPA, Board member ISPCAN. Concluding Address by the Chief Guest Dr. Nausheen Hamid Parliamentary Secretary on Health, National Assembly, she appreciated the efforts of PAHCHAAN and said that it is the need of the hour and good parenting is one of the most important interventions to prevent child maltreatment and other ills of the society.
