Tandojam (Press Release) Sindh Agriculture University,(SAU) Tandojam presented the deficit budget for the financial year 2022-23, in the senate meeting, the budget reports and annual reports of the previous financial years were also approved.
The 27th meeting of the Senate of Sindh Agriculture University was held at University senate hall, presided by Vice Chancellor Dr. Fateh Marri on Thursday.
During the meeting, the agenda consisting of 12 different points was discussed, and a deficit budget of 2964.225 million rupees was presented for the financial year 2022-23 of Sindh Agriculture University, while presenting the budget, Director Finance of SAU Aneel Kumar told for the financial year 2022-23, there are expenses of 1500 million, in which despite the federal, provincial budget and personal resources, the University will incur a deficit of 469.898 in this budget due to salary and other expenses.
The Estimate budget for Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Agricultural College Dokri of 284.205 million, for the FY 2022.23, with a deficit of 150.833 million was also presented, which was approved.
Annual Reports, FY 2017.18, 2018.19, 2019.20 and 2020.21, revised budget for 2018.19, 2019.20, 2020.21 and 2021.22 and the budget estimates for the financial years 2019.20, 2020.21, 2021.22 and 2022.23 were also approved.
The meeting also approved the revised budget of 2285.586 for the financial year 2021.22, while the budget and expenditure of Khairpur College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology and Sub Campus Umerkot projects, scholarships, research and development projects were approved.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Aijaz Ali Khooharo, also presented the annual performance report of 2020 and 2021.

HYDERABAD, (23rd Feb, 2023 ) :National and international experts and policy-making organizations have emphasized good relations between farmers and landlords to eliminate the concept of forced labour from the agricultural sector.
The representatives of policy-making organizations informed around 5,000 farmers have signed agreements with their landlords and these farmers will be prosperous in the form of better production as they have been trained to improve the productivity of the land through organic farming.
The speakers said while addressing a workshop on impact assessment validation and learning held on Thursday under auspices of Sindh Agriculture University in collaboration with the Sindh Government, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Union (EU).
Several delegates from SAU, Agricultural Research, Agriculture extension, Irrigation department, CIDA, and social representatives attended the workshop.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Dr. Fateh Marri, said that increasing production was necessary for food security. The comprehensive agreement between the landlords and the peasants regarding shareholding is an important development, he said and added that with this agreement, food production systems could work in the right direction for food security in the country.
He said, "If we should increase our production per acre by five to ten percent, poverty and unemployment will decrease by 50 percent within the next 10 years", he opined.
In her video link address to participants, FAO Representative Florence Rolle informed that FAO was working on various agricultural projects in collaboration with the Sindh Agriculture University, while with financial assistance of European Union, the FAO) also engaged in the completion of various projects in different areas of Sindh province.

HYDERABAD, (22nd Feb, 2023 ) :Agriculture scientists and researchers of Sindh Agriculture University have started research on indigenous and non-native species of vegetables, and prioritized the research on new varieties and expansion of certified seeds of vegetables to replace the hybrids with high-yielding local crops.
The research work has been started through 'Characterization and identification of early maturing and high yielding chickpea genotypes' and 'Genetic characterization, evaluation and selection of onion germplasm entries for resistance to onion thrips' projects.
The research is being carried out under the supervision of experts from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Faculty of Crop Production, Sindh Agriculture University with the support of Sindh Higher education Commission (SHEC) Karachi and National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU), Higher Education Commission Islamabad.
The research is being done on short duration and high-yielding winter vegetables, including gram, onion, peas, carrot, turnip, radish, garlic, spinach, fenugreek, and coriander.
In this regard, a study event was held on Wednesday at the experimental field which was attended by Dean of Crop Production Faculty Dr Inayatullah Rajpar, Dean of Crop Protection Faculty Dr Manzoor Ali Abro, Dean of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Faculty Dr Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashidi, Director of Institute of food Sciences and Technologies Dr Aijaz Ali Soomro, Chairman of the Department of Agronomy Dr Aijaz Soomro and a large number of teachers and students.
While giving a briefing, Dr Shahnawaz Marri, Dr Wajid Ali Jatoi, and Dr Tanveer Fatah Abro said that with the support of Sindh HEC, they had started research on different vegetables, including 35 varieties of gram from Sindh, Punjab and Egypt.

HYDERABAD, (17th Feb, 2023 ) :Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam Dr Fateh Marri Friday inaugurated the camp which was set up by the varsity students to help earthquake victims in Turkiye and Syria.
According to the university spokesman, the relief camp has been set up in front of Dr AM Sheikh Auditorium Hall where the vice chancellor, teachers and students deposit cash as donations.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Fateh Marri said that as Muslims, it was the responsibility of all to help the affected peoples of both the countries.
He said that during the recent floods in Pakistan, and especially in Sindh, the Government and the people of Turkiye showed generosity and helped the flood affected people, and "now it is the time that we reciprocate their goodwill gesture.
" Dr Marri said that Turkiye worked closely with the Sindh Agriculture University to revive the agricultural sector and distributed free wheat seeds to flood-affected farmers. "We are working with Turkiye on various technology exchange projects in agriculture and other fields", he said.
He said that directives were issued to teachers and officers of BPS-18 and above to donate one-day salary voluntarily.

Tandojam(Press Release) The Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University TandoJam Dr. Fateh Marri has said that millions of people in Sindh have become homeless as a result of floods and unprecedented heavy rains; currently adding that rapid population growth also forced more than 8.5 percent of the country to live in temporary huts and on footpaths.
According to a university spokesman, the Vice Chancellor said this on Wednesday while addressing an awareness seminar regarding a low cost housing scheme introduced for university employees.
He said it has become a challenge for the common man to build his own house due to the economic crisis. The university management has initiated the first step to make the longstanding dream of varsity employees true by launching a private residential colony for them.
The Chief Executive Officer of property marketing Aakash Santorai, who introduced the residential colony project while speaking on this occasion, said the property investment sector in Pakistan at present is contributing 9.6 percent to the services sector and 5.6 percent to the country's total GDP. "We have to make decisions today for a better future for our generations", he added and briefed the participants about the residential scheme for varsity employees.
The Director University Advancement and Financial Assistance Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar also spoke on the occasion and said that the varsity was sincerely working on the residential project of employees for the first time in its history.

HYDERABAD:The candidates from across the country participated in the entry test for admissions in the undergraduate degree program, in different faculties of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, its colleges and sub-campuses here on Sunday.
The varsity's spokesman informed that some 70 blocks were formed for seating arrangements for the students amid a foolproof security system.
He added that 4,533 candidates, including 3,266 with pre-medical college level qualifications and 1,200 with pre-engineering, participated in the test while there were 634 female candidates as well among them.
He said the SAU was offering the degree programs in its all 5 colleges, Information Technology Center, Institute of food Sciences and Technologies, as well as in Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Agricultural College Dokri, Khairpur, in College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology Khairpur and in Sub Campus Umerkot.
The spokesman told the test consisted of 100 MCQs for which 100 minutes were provided to the candidates.
Talking to the media on the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Marri said there were great job opportunities for the youth in agriculture with the addition of eight new degree programs in the university and its affiliated colleges and sub-campus.
He added that scholarship opportunities also awaited the students.
Marri announced the varsity had waived the admission fee for female students of affiliated Colleges and SAU Sub Campus Umerkot in order to encourage higher enrollment of that gender in agricultural studies.
He apprised for the first time under the supervision of SAU's testing unit the results of the entry test would be announced through the OMR system which conducted the automatic answer sheet assessment.

HYDERABAD(Press Release) Sindh Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Dr Fateh Marri has urged the varsity students to establish a 'Scholarship Society' and asked the Students Financial Aid Office of the university to find merit-based scholarship opportunities for students.
The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized for early launch of the "Students e-portal" for support in internship programmes.
He emphasized this while addressing the ceremony of cheque distribution among 74 students of the university under Sindh Educational Endowment Fund (SEEF) Phase-I on Tuesday.
He said there were great academic and unlimited scholarship opportunities in the world's top universities, for which ability and hard work are necessary.
He said hardworking students in national universities should participate in competitive examinations, because now there was no other way to achieve the destination except merit.
The youth of Sindh must take their education and research seriously, he said, adding that academic excellence was given importance to get a place in the private and public sectors. He said many scholarships are available for poor and hardworking students.

Tandojam (Press Release) A five-day training programme for security staff of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tando Jam started on Monday with the objective to make the security system of the university more effective.
According to the university spokesman, Vice Chancellor Dr Fateh Marri and DIG Hyderabad Syed Pir Muhammad Shah attended the opening ceremony as chief guests.
The training programme has been initiated by the Directorate of Advancement and Financial Assistance in collaboration with Sindh Police and Pakistan Rangers, on the directives of the vice chancellor.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the training programme, Dr Fateh Marri said that the staff of the varsity must be trained keeping in view the current situation of law and order.
He said that the university and its research departments were conducting research on different types of crops which involved years of hard work and technology. This research would have many positive effects on the economy and food security. "Therefore, the protection of such research is also the responsibility of the security personnel", he said.
The vice chancellor requested the DIG Hyderabad to enhance the police personnel deployed, according to requirements of the university.
"There is also a need for the deployment of lady police for the girl's hostel", he said.
Pir Muhammad Shah, while appreciating the well-equipped security staff, said that other institutions should also train their security staff while considering the current law and order situation.

HYDERABAD(Press Release) Dean Faculty of Agricultural Social Sciences Dr Aijaz Ali Khooharo has said civilized manners and tolerance have helped many nation-states to transform into developed countries.
"The results of intolerance are nothing but destruction. But unfortunately, intolerance has increased to a dangerous extent in our society," he observed while addressing a ceremony held to award certificates to the participants of a workshop at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam here on Saturday.
The workshop titled "Peace, Tolerance and Inclusivity" was organized by Peace Society of Students Teachers Engagement Program (STEP), in collaboration with Peace Advocacy and Community Engagement through Transformation for Tolerance (PACT) project of Shaoor Foundation for education.
Dr Khooharo pointed out one form of extreme intolerance while referring to the socio-political quarrels on social media which were actually based on petty egos but which end up spreading hatred among millions of people.
"The political activists have made social media a political arena instead of using it for development," he lamented Dr Khooharo said people of different schools of thought were seen fighting each other all over the country and hundreds of incidents of intolerance and violence were witnessed daily on the streets.
"Such attitudes are the biggest obstacles in our economic, social, moral and development path," he said.
The focal person of the workshop Dr Jam Ghulam Murtaza Sahito apprised that more than 30 male and female students participated in the training which imparted to them the skills of helping people develop tolerance, and establishing peace and order.

They expressed these views while addressing a conference 'Soil: Where Food Begins', organized by Department of Soil Science Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam on Tuesday in collaboration with Soil Science Society of Pakistan, Farm Advisory Center of FFC and Azeems Private Limited in connection with World Soil Day.
In his address, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Dr Fateh Marri said agriculture was the only sector that could contribute more to the development of the country, but due to lack of training of farmers and using unnecessary fertilizers and pesticides, the productivity of the soil was gradually decreasing.
The experts should play their due role to protect the soil along with educating farmers on the use of organic fertilizers to maintain life on agricultural land, he emphasized.
Dr Inayatullah Rajpar, Dean of the Faculty of Crop Production and Soil, said that soil degradation, lack of knowledge about use and importance of fertilizers among farmers were increasing soil related problems.
Presenting her paper on soil, Chairperson of Department of Soil Science, Prof. Dr Mehrunisa Memon said that 95 percent of food came from the soil, but due to non-utilization of organic fertilizers, the productivity of the land was declining.
In order to restore the soil, she suggested the promotion of the practice of organic fertilizers and their evaluation on a scientific basis to meet the lack of minerals and nutrients required by the soil.

The Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tando Jam Dr. Fateh Marri has called upon the youth to realize their responsibilities and play their due role in the development of the country.
The youth have a major role in development and Pakistan is a fortunate country whose majority population consists of youth, he said.
He said this while addressing an event titled "Fly High 2022" regarding the career counseling of youth and graduates organized by the University on Monday in collaboration with Indus Youth Welfare Organization.
Dr Fateh Marri said that no development can be achieved without education and active participation of stakeholders, particularly of youth.
Pakistan is one of the fortunate countries in the world, which has a majority population of young people, he said and added that unfortunately 29 percent of the youth are illiterate and for them unemployment has become a serious problem.
According to a recent study, he informed that 64 percent of Pakistan's population is under the age of 30 and only 39 out of 100 youths are gainfully employed, while the remaining are neither employed nor looking for employment.
He said that the youth should use their talents and make efforts for personal business and employment in the private sector. Professor Dr. Tahmina Nagraj said agriculture is a very big sector and youth can create employment opportunities for themselves and others by developing their ideas as entrepreneurs.
Abdullah Veesar, leader of Indus Youth Organization said that prime objective of this programme was to initiate career counseling for the students of Sindh Agriculture University, Colleges and Schools of Tando Jam, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mirpurkhas and the surrounding areas.

The Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University Dr. Fateh Marri Friday called upon the farmers to get advantages of effective marketing of their agricultural products so that they could earn maximum profit from their products.
Sindh produces 85 percent of chilies in the country, he said and emphasized that research for disease prevention and new products should also be carried out effectively.
He was addressing the PhD seminar on "Economic Evaluation of Chilli Production and Marketing Performance in Sindh Province of Pakistan".
Dr. Marri said the Kunri City of Sindh is the largest market for chilies in Asia. The farmers of the area need to be trained for marketing and export of agricultural produce, he said and added that research is also required on new commodities for better production.
Scholar Mehr-un-Nisa Raees in her research paper said that chili was economically the most important and valuable crop in Pakistan adding that the country is among the world's top five chili-producing countries following excellent chili production.
She said that Sindh was producing 85 percent of the country's total production, while 55 percent of the total production of chilies in Sindh is being produced in Kunri area.
Despite better weather, the production of Chili in Sindh is low, she said adding due to various reasons Chili farmers are not able to increase production per acre.
