Mission to provide timely and quality facilities to the pilgrims next year, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has started the advance preparations for the Hajj arrangements.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to call for Hajj applications in October or November. Applications will be called on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for Hajj 2023 were called for in February and March.

The purpose of requesting applications in advance is to complete the Hajj arrangements in time. By taking applications 7 months in advance, it will be possible to get quality accommodation for the pilgrims. By booking in advance, you will be able to get the cheapest and nearest residential buildings, also in Mina, Makkah and Madinah. The nearest accommodation can be booked.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has already obtained the Hajj quota for Pakistan from the Saudi government. Under the quota, 179,000 Pakistanis will be able to perform Hajj in 2024. Despite the ECC directing the concerned authorities to stop the smuggling and hoarding of sugar, the public could not get any relief and the price of sugar increased further.

According to the details, the ban on the export of sugar in Karachi, like the rest of the country, was blown up by the sugar mafia. In the wholesale market, sugar rose by Rs 7 per kg in a day and touched the highest level of Rs 171.

According to dealers, sugar has become expensive in the wholesale commodity market by the Hour, the retail price of sugar for the public has reached a record level of 180 rupees.

It should be remembered that the price of sugar per kg has increased by about 20 rupees since August 1 due to stock speculation.

In view of the implementation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement, petrol is likely to be expensive by Rs 10 and diesel by Rs 15 per liter.

The IMF's first economic review is preceded by a tough test for the caretaker government. The caretaker finance minister is in favor of full implementation of the IMF program due to which there is a fear of further increase in electricity and petrol prices instead of relief.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance has also assured the IMF to collect 250 billion by stopping electricity theft, while the plan to collect electricity bills from consumers in installments has also been shared with the IMF.

It should be noted that a total increase of 87 rupees has been recorded in the value of the dollar against the Pakistani currency during one year. Due to depreciation of rupee during PDM government period, loans have increased by 9300 billion.

The Pakistani rupee has set a new record low against the US dollar.

According to currency dealers, the dollar crossed Rs 305 for the first time in history after the dollar increased by another rupee 30 paise in the inter-bank exchange. The dollar is trading at Rs 305.75 in Interbank.

On the other hand, the dollar became more expensive by 3 rupees in the open market today, the dollar touched the historical level of 325 rupees in the open currency market.

It should be remembered that in the 3 weeks of the caretaker government, the dollar has become more expensive by Rs 30 in the open market and by more than Rs 16 in the interbank market.

The value of the US dollar has surged against the Pakistani rupee in the interbank exchange, causing concerns for the local economy.

At the beginning of the business week, the US dollar recorded a notable gain of one rupee against the rupee, solidifying its upward trajectory.

Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar has been nominated as the eighth caretaker chief minister of Sindh.

After thorough deliberations between the Sindh Chief Minister and the opposition leader, the MQM Coordination Committee has reached a consensus on the nomination of Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar.

Justice Maqbool Baqar is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was born on April 5, 1957, in Karachi, Pakistan. He received his LL.B. degree from the University of Karachi in 1979.

Justice Baqar began his legal career as an advocate in the Sindh High Court in 1980. He served as a judge of the Sindh High Court from 2002 to 2015.

In 2015, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Justice Baqar retired from the Supreme Court on April 4, 2022. He is currently a visiting professor at the University of Karachi.

According to dealers, the US dollar became 29 paise more expensive against the Pakistani rupee in the interbank market, after which its rate came down to 287 rupees 75 paise.

According to the State Bank, the rate of the US dollar decreased by 45 paise yesterday.

Sharing your screen during a video call is no longer headache-inducing, at least not if you're using FaceTime and, soon, WhatsApp.

"We're adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp," Mark Zuckerberg, Meta founder and CEO, announced the new feature in a Facebook post with a photo.

The feature was first explored in late May when it became available to Android beta testers. Though it's unclear when the feature will be widely available for all WhatsApp users, the new post by Zuckerberg hints it could be sooner than later.

As noted during beta testing, the screen-sharing feature would be available during a call by tapping a button on the call control view. The user trying to share their screen will then be prompted to allow permission to WhatsApp to record, display, and share the contents of their screen with the recipient.

WhatsApp video calls, in turn, are available to any device with access to the app and an internet connection across Android and iOS. Adding the screen-sharing feature to WhatsApp would reach the app's more than 2.4 billion monthly users and could become essential for the workplace in countries where it's the most used messaging application, like India.

The action comes as most of these leaders publicly announced their dissociation from the party through press conferences or video messages following incidents that occurred on May 9.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has constituted a high-profile Cricket Technical Committee (CTC), consisting former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq (head), Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.

The CTC will provide recommendations on cricket-related matters, including, but not limited to the overall domestic structure, scheduling, playing conditions, appointment of the national selection committees, appointment of national team coaches, central and domestic contracts and plans for the development of umpires, referees and curators.

The CTC will have the powers to invite additional cricket experts, and shall report to the head of the PCB Management Committee on regular basis.

World-renowned Estonian athlete, Jan Ross, marked a new milestone by traversing the world’s longest luminous rope, strung at a dizzying height of over 185 meters between these two iconic landmarks.

Ross, an Estonian athlete and three-time world champion in suspended rope walking, successfully undertook this extraordinary challenge on his first attempt.

He traversed a distance of over 150 meters on a rope no wider than 2.5cm, suspended at a height of over 185 meters between the two iconic towers owned by Katara Hospitality.

Amidst mounting economic pressures, the masses find themselves grappling with yet another burden as the government on Tuesday decided to jack up petrol prices by a staggering Rs19.95 per liter and diesel price by Rs19.90 per litre for the next fortnight.

The decision was announced by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar during a live broadcast, citing the necessity of adhering to the terms agreed upon with the IMF.

He said that with the approval of the Prime Minister, the price of petrol is being increased by 19.95 rupees and the price of high speed diesel is being increased by 19.90 rupees, after which their rates will be 272.95 and 273.40 rupees respectively, the new prices will be applied immediately.

The staggering increase in fuel prices has sent shockwaves through the masses, already grappling with a host of economic burdens. However, Dar emphasised that the government is committed to passing on the minimum possible burden to the people, as directed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“The decision to hike petrol and diesel prices has been taken in the best interest of Pakistan,” asserted Finance Minister Dar.

The Popularity of Pakistani Himalayan pink salt products, including salt lamps and bath salts, has been growing in recent years in China, as stated by Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai, Hussain Haider.

Addressing a webinar on the promotion of Pakistani pink salt, jointly held by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Shanghai and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Haider emphasised that Pakistan can further expand its export of salt products to China by enhancing its marketing and packaging strategies.

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, Pakistani Himalayan pink salt exports to China reached $4,968,223 in 2021 and $5,747,492 in 2022, showing a year-on-year increase of 15.68%.

This demonstrates the gradually expanding market and promising prospects of pink salt exports to China.

The improvement in Pakistani salt exports can be attributed to a combination of factors, including increased awareness among Chinese consumers about the health benefits of pink salt, successful marketing campaigns, and the establishment of strong trade partnerships between Pakistani exporters and Chinese importers.

Pakistan Post has also increased postage rates, domestic and international postage rates have been increased by more than 50%.

Pakistan Post has increased the registration rate of one kilogram of parcel from Rs.100 to Rs.150, while the rate of 30 kg has been increased from Rs.875 to Rs.1320.

According to the new rates, the rates for registered newspapers and magazines have been increased from Rs 2 to Rs 5 per 100 grams. The new rates will be applicable from August 1.

According to Divisional Post Officer Qurarat Al-Ain, the prices have been increased in view of the rising costs while efforts are also being made to improve the delivery service.

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification to increase LPG prices.

According to Ogra Notification, 11.8 kg domestic cylinder of LPG has been increased by Rs 281 51 paise while the new price of 11.8 kg domestic cylinder of LPG has been set at Rs 2373 64 paise.

According to the ongoing notification, the price of LPG per kg has been fixed at Rs 201 15 paise, while the price of LPG has been increased by Rs 23 86 paise per kg.

It may be recalled that last month in July, 11.8 kg domestic cylinder of LPG was Rs 2092 13 paise.

Pakistani government has decided to refund a cumulative amount of Rs12 billion to Pakistani pilgrims who performed Hajj this year under state sponsored scheme.

The Religious Affairs Minister Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood said that pilgrims who performed their annual pilgrimage will receive a refund of Rs97,000 per person.

The disbursement of funds will start from Monday, July 31, and it comes following cost-saving measures of the government, and pilgrims will receive a partial refund in Hajj expenses in their respective bank accounts next week.

Minister’s announcement comes before the end of the Hajj operation following the arrival of the last return Hajj flight. In the year 2023, around 160,000 Pakistanis performed Hajj, as Islamabad got a quota of 179,210 pilgrims.

Furthermore, 22,600 pilgrims, who did not get accommodation in Mina and did not avail of train facilities, will receive an extra amount. Thousand of pilgrims who chose to stay outside Madina’s central area will receive an extra amount.

The government and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) administration have shown willingness to address the concerns following the protest staged by the employees of the CAA against the outsourcing of airports.

Federal Minister for Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique has extended an invitation to the heads of unions representing the CAA employees for a meeting, scheduled to take place on July 30 in Lahore. The CAA unions were formally informed about the meeting through written communication from the CAA headquarters.

The CAA union heads have been directed to present their concerns and suggestions in writing regarding the outsourcing of airports.

The meeting will also include representatives from various civil aviation employee unions, such as Samiullah, Azizullah Memon, Ayazbut, Ashraf Waheed, and others.

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “Instant Video Messages,” which allows users to record and share short video clips with their friends.

Unlike before, where users had to open the camera interface separately, this feature is now integrated directly within the chat itself.

An extraordinary virtual session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers of Member States (CFM) will take place on July 31 to address the concerning incidents of desecration and burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.

The urgent meeting has been called upon the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which serves as the Chair of the 14th Islamic Summit, along with the Republic of Iraq.

This session follows the OIC Executive Committee’s final statement issued after an extraordinary meeting held at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah on July 02, this year, which specifically addressed the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden and called for necessary high-level emergency meetings.

The decision to hold this meeting was taken after consultations between the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and member states regarding the implementation of the final statement by the Executive Committee.

In light of the repeated provocative actions that demonstrate deliberate religious hatred and intolerance, further measures are being considered by the OIC to address the situation effectively.

ChatGPT is now available for Android users in the United States, India, Bangladesh and Brazil, the viral chatbot's owner OpenAI said on Tuesday, as it looks to take advantage of the popularity of the artificial intelligence tool.

In a recent circular issued to all banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared bank holidays for the observance of Ashura Moharram 2023.

The bank holidays are scheduled to take place from the 28th to the 29th of July, 2023, which falls on a Friday and Saturday.

A notification has been issued in this regard.

The new season for Umrah or lesser pilgrimage began days ago in Saudi Arabia, authorities there have unveiled a set of guidelines for worshippers and pilgrims heading to the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Islam’s holiest site.

The kingdom’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has advised the worshippers to avoid jostling and crowding at the mosque, home to the Holy Kaba. The faithful are also urged to give priority to women and the elderly at the site.

The ministry has stressed the necessity of observing order, following queues, and cooperating with security guards.

Millions of Muslims from around the world annually flock to the Grand Mosque to perform Umrah and offer prayers.

Domestic and foreign Muslims are permitted to perform Umrah as its new season got underway on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic lunar year.

Around 10 million overseas Muslims are expected to undertake Umrah at the Grand Mosque during the new season.

Muslims holding different types of entry visas such as personal, visit, and tourist visas are allowed to undertake Umrah and visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa.

Saudi authorities have extended the Umrah visa from 30 days to 90 and allowed holders to enter the kingdom via all land, air, and sea outlets and leave from any airport.

The kingdom has also announced that expatriates residing in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are eligible to apply for a tourist visa, regardless of their profession, and be able to perform Umrah.
