Miami, a coastal city in the US state of Florida, is famous for its colorful clubs, colorful buildings and Latin American-inspired culture.
Compared to other famous cities, Miami is a relatively young city, but it was built on top of the site of the oldest indigenous civilization in North America.
Many people don't know about it but archeological discoveries in recent times have given more information about it.
From 500 BC to the middle of the 18th century, the Tequista civilization lived in the area. They were among the first to settle in Southeast Florida.
The Tequesta people lived near the Miami River and Biscayne Bay and founded a successful coastal region from which trade was carried out to distant regions.
Today South Florida and much of the state is inhabited by indigenous peoples of the Tequesta, Seminole and Mackasukee tribes.
The Macasukee people came to Florida from the states of Alabama and Georgia, and the area was not part of the United States at the time.
In 1830, a law was passed to remove the native Indian population living in the southeastern United States, which forced the indigenous people from their land and moved westward, but it is estimated that About 100 people hid in the watery lowlands, an area now called the Everglades.
The Mackasukee, Seminole and other Florida tribes found here today are the heirs of those who refused to leave their land.
