Trump’s incoming envoy calls for PTI founder’s release.

Richard Grenell, who has been picked by United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump as presidential envoy for special missions, said he would like to see Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan out of jail.

Speaking to a US news outlet, Richard Grenell said, “There are a lot of the same allegations just like President Trump, where the ruling party put him in prison and created some sort of corruption allegations and false allegations.”

“I would like to see Imran Khan be released from jail,” Richard Grenell told NEWSMAX.

The special envoy of President-elect Donald Trump was of the view that the people of Pakistan should decide if Imran Khan wants to run for office.

China plans record $411 billion special treasury bond issuance.

China has agreed to issue 3 trillion yuan ($411 billion) worth of special treasury bonds next year, two sources said, which would be the highest on record, as Beijing ramps up fiscal stimulus to revive a faltering economy.

The plan for 2025 sovereign debt issuance would be a sharp increase from this year’s 1 trillion yuan and comes as Beijing moves to soften the blow from an expected increase in U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports when Donald Trump takes office in January.

The proceeds will be targeted at boosting consumption via subsidy programmes, equipment upgrades by businesses and funding investments in innovation-driven advanced sectors, among other initiatives, said the sources.

Pakistan fall to worst Test ranking in nearly six decades after Bangladesh whitewash.

Pakistan fell to their worst Test ranking in nearly six decades on Wednesday, the International Cricket Council said, after their shock 2-0 series defeat to low-ranked Bangladesh.

Bangladesh inflicted a six-wicket defeat on the home team in the second Test in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, their first series win against Pakistan

Pakistan dropped two places — from sixth to eighth — in the Test rankings after suffering a shock series loss at home to Bangladesh," the International Cricket Council (ICC) said.

The ICC said it was "their lowest rankings since 1965" in the 12-team table, which is topped by Australia followed by India and England.

Bangladesh are ninth in the latest rankings.

There are now no Pakistan bowlers ranked in the top 10 after paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi fell to 11th from his ninth place before the Bangladesh series.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is the only Pakistani remaining in the top 10 batting rankings, while Babar Azam dropped three places to 12th.

Azam managed just 64 runs in the two Tests against Bangladesh.

Afghanistan Bans Mixed Martial Arts For Being ‘Too Violent’.

The Taliban government of Afghanistan has officially banned mixed martial arts (MMA), deeming the sport un-Islamic. The decision was announced by the country’s sports authority on Wednesday, following an investigation by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

The Taliban’s morality police conducted a thorough review of MMA, ultimately concluding that the sport contains elements that conflict with sharia, or Islamic law. “It was found that the sport is problematic with respect to sharia and it has many aspects which are contradictory to the teachings of Islam,” the sports authority stated in a message to AFP. Consequently, the government has decided to prohibit the practice and promotion of mixed martial arts throughout Afghanistan.

An official from the sports authority elaborated on the decision, explaining to local media that MMA was banned partly due to its violent nature, which poses significant risks of injury or even death to participants. This aligns with the Taliban’s broader efforts to enforce a conservative interpretation of Islamic principles since their return to power in 2021.

The ban on MMA is part of a wider campaign by the Taliban to regulate public behavior and activities according to their interpretation of Islamic law. Recently, the government ratified a morality law that formalizes various rules on conduct and dress, including a mandate that men must not wear shorts above the knee.

Pakistan to Face India On October 6 in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the updated fixtures for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, following its relocation from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Pakistan will face off against their arch-rivals India on October 6 at the Dubai International Stadium at 2 pm in their second game of the tournament.

Dubai and Sharjah will host the eagerly anticipated matches, bringing together the world’s top cricketing nations in a battle for supremacy.

Group A features a formidable lineup, including defending champions Australia, 2020 runners-up India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Group B will see South Africa, England, 2016 champions West Indies, Bangladesh, and Scotland compete for a spot in the knockout stages.

Sri Lanka and Scotland secured their places in the tournament earlier this year, having successfully navigated the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier held in Abu Dhabi.

Each team will play four group-stage matches, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for October 17 and 18.

The winners of these matches will then face off in the grand final on October 20, with a reserve day in place for both the semi-finals and the final.

In total, 23 matches will be played across the two venues, with at least 10 warm-up games scheduled from September 28 to October 1.

Dutch-Moroccan Footballer Donates €500k Payout from His Club to Gaza Children.

Dutch footballer Anwar El Ghazi has announced he will donate €500,000 of his recent settlement to support children in Gaza.

This amount represents one-third of the total sum he received from Mainz 05 after a German court ruled that his contract termination was unjust.

El Ghazi’s contract with Mainz was terminated in November 2023, a month after the Bundesliga club suspended him for a social media post expressing solidarity with Palestinians during the intensifying Israel-Hamas conflict.

The termination followed a period of heightened violence, including Hamas’s attack on southern Israel in October 2023, which led to a severe military response and substantial casualties on both sides.

The German Labour Court’s ruling last month deemed Mainz’s action as wrongful and mandated compensation for the nine months’ wages owed to El Ghazi, amounting to €1.7 million. The footballer received a payout of €1.5 million from the club.

In his statement on social media, El Ghazi emphasized that the legal dispute was never about financial gain.

ATM Card Blocked? Beware of This SMS Scam Making Rounds Again.

There is a common SMS scam that has surfaced yet again. This text message warns you that the State Bank has blocked your ATM card due to non-verification and you need to contact a certain phone number to keep using your card.

Note that the SMS comes from someone’s phone number rather than an official number. It provides another personal mobile number for you to contact rather than a bank helpline. It also communicates in poor English, which is usually not the case with texts from official sources. You can also confirm if your debit/credit card works through your banking app or by using it at an ATM.
