Speculations surrounding Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir's visit to the United States of America are "baseless", the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Thursday.

"There have been baseless speculations on social media that COAS is visiting USA," the military's media wing said in a series of tweets, as it put an end to speculations.

The ISPR added that the army chief is on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) from 5 to 10 February in connection with the 5th Pakistan-UK Stabilisation Conference.

Israeli forces martyred a 17-year-old Palestinian during a raid in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said, and the army described him as a gunman who had fired on troops.

Hamzeh al-Ashkar was shot in the face by soldiers who raided the northern city of Nablus at around dawn, the ministry said.

"He was armed and was firing on the (Israeli) forces," a military spokesperson said when asked about the incident.

A court in Islamabad dismissed Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed's post-arrest bail plea in the case registered against him for levelling allegations against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

The court had reserved its verdict in the case earlier today after hearing arguments of the prosecution and Rashid's lawyers.

However, the court in its verdict allowed the AML chief to sign his nomination papers for the NA-60 and NA-62 by-polls.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to establish a relief fund to help the victims of a deadly earthquake in Turkey that has claimed over 3,000 lives and injured thousands of others.

"To help the victims of the earthquake in Turkey at this difficult hour, PM Shehbaz Sharif has decided to establish PM Relief Fund," Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said Tuesday after a plane load of relief goods and rescue team from Pakistan reached Turkey.

Earlier today, the mortal remains were given Ghusl (ritual washing and shrouding of deceased ahead of burial) in Sonapur, Dubai.

According to aviation authorities, a special flight was to depart from Dubai at 8:30pm (Pakistan time) and will land at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi at 10:15pm.

Gold prices in Pakistan ended flat on Monday as safe-haven investors preferred to hedge their bets amid economic uncertainties that by no means have shown any letup.

Data released by the All-Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA) showed that the price of gold (24 carats) decreased by Rs200 per tola and Rs172 per 10 grams to settle at Rs204,300 and Rs175,154, respectively.

The fall comes after gold lost Rs4,000 per tola during the last session on Friday. The yellow metal market was majorly bullish last week before it began undergoing correction during the last session.

The US military said on Sunday it is searching for remnants of the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon it shot down a day earlier, while Beijing on Monday urged Washington not to escalate or take further action to harm its interests.

The drama over the balloon, which Beijing again reiterated is a civilian airship that accidentally strayed into US airspace, has further strained already-tense relations and led Washington to cancel a planned visit to Beijing by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The US Navy is working to recover the balloon and its payload and the Coast Guard is providing security for the operation, General Glen VanHerck, commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and US Northern Command,
