Bannu: 9 soldiers of Pakistan Army were martyred in a su***de attack on an army convoy.

At least nine soldiers of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom on Thursday when a motorcycle-borne su***de bomber exploded himself on a military convoy in general area Jani Khel in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, the military said.

Military’s media arm, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said five soldiers were also injured during the explosion, adding that Naib Subedar Sanobar Ali was also among the martyrs.

It stated that the area has been cordoned off by security forces and sanitisation is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” it further said.

Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, while expressing his condolences, said that he was heartbroken by the loss of valiant soldiers in Bannu.

In a post on his X handle, he said, “Heartbroken by the loss of 9 valiant soldiers in Bannu Division, KPK, to a cowardly terrorist act that injured many. Such acts are utterly reprehensible. My thoughts are with the families of the martyred and injured. Pakistan stands resolute against such terror.”
On August 22, at least six soldiers were martyred in a skirmish with terrorists in the Asman Manza area of South Waziristan district, according to ISPR.

The military's media wing added that at least four terrorists were also killed while two were injured in the fighting.

"Arshad Nadeem wins silver Medal For Pakistan At World Athletics Champion"

Star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem made the country proud on Sunday when he bagged the silver medal at the World Athletics Championship — the country’s first-ever medal at the tournament — triggering an outpouring of love and appreciation for the thrower.

Arshad Nadeem, coming back from elbow surgery and a knee injury, produced his season's best effort of 87.82-meter on his third attempt to win the silver medal, while Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships with an 88.17-meter effort in the final.

Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch took the bronze with 86.67.

Speaking to Geo News, Nadeem’s mother said she was thankful to the Almighty and the whole nation for praying for his success.

“My son will play and bring glory to the country.”

Lavishing praise on the star athlete, Nadeem’s elder brother said words cannot describe the joy of success.

“Arshad played after a year due to injury and couldn’t get enough time to train but in the next competitions he will be the winner inshallah.”

KHAPLU: A first-ever cargo carrying trade goods entered Pakistan on Sunday under a new road trade deal with China, a Pakistani customs official said, with local traders describing it as a “happy moment” for the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The development comes days after the two countries opened an international road transport (TIR) route between China’s inland city of Kashgar and the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, aiming to enhance cross-border trade.

This is the first inaugural TIR trade route between China and Pakistan that highlights a fresh mode of cross-border transport for Xinjiang and potentially setting a precedent for future trade routes within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“Two consignments, bound for Afghanistan, have reached the Sost Dry Port under the TIR agreement,” Imtiaz Hussain, an assistant collector at Pakistan’s Silk Route Dry Port (SRDP) Sost, told Arab News.

“The cargo will be cleared on Monday before leaving for Afghanistan.”

Longtime ally Beijing has pledged over $65 billion in building CPEC infrastructure projects in Pakistan as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The corridor includes a network of roads, railways, pipelines, and ports in Pakistan that will connect China to the Arabian Sea and help Islamabad expand and modernize its economy.

Currently, the total volume of trade between China and Pakistan is above $12.06 billion, up nearly 19 percent as compared with 2021 when it stood at $10.14 billion due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Arab News, Imran Ali, president of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce said the new trade route would bring prosperity to the region.

“This is a happy moment for us. It will bring prosperity to the region and open the door for different kinds of business opportunities in Pakistan,” he told Arab News.

“With the opening of this route, prices of commodities will also be slashed in the future.”

Ali said this would be a “very feasible and shortest way” for Central Asian countries to connect with China. “The opening of this route is a good omen for Pakistani traders,” he added.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) issued a commemorative coin of 75 rupees during a ceremony held in Islamabad on Thursday to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the USA.

Foreign Secretary for Pakistan, Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi was the Chief Guest. US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, dignified the ceremony as Guest of Honor.

Donald Blome, in his address said that the coin represents the shared values, ideals and common ties between the two countries, as well as their commitment to a brighter future. He thanked the State Bank of Pakistan for the meaningful gesture of issuance of the commemorative coin, and expressed his hope of working closely with the Government of Pakistan.

Syrus Sajjad Qazi praised the beautiful commemorative coin, remarking that the national symbols of Pakistan and the United States of America on the coin highlight the democratic roots of both countries.

India's Chandrayaan-3 has triumphantly touched down on the moon's south pole after a 40-day voyage from Sriharikota's space center, making India the first ever country to land on the lunar south pole. Pakistani pacers star from the first ball of the inning as Pakistan wins the first ODI against Afghanistan by 142 runs in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, on Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 202 runs, the Afghan's batting lineup dismissed for only 59 runs in 19.2 overs.

Haris Rauf in Pakistan colors claimed 5-18 in 6.2 overs, his first ever five wicket-haul, and Shaheen claimed two wickets in two balls in his second over to set the tone for Pakistan during Afghanistan's batting.

Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan bagged one wicket each. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top run-scorer for Afghanistan with 18 runs.

Earlier, Imam-ul-Haq sold 61 runs with Shadab Khan's 39 and Iftikhar Ahmed's 30 managed green shirts to put 201 in 47.1 overs on the scoreboard. Afghanistan bowlers rattled Pakistan's top order on a terrific spinning track.

On Sunday, in the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Blind Games held in Birmingham, Pakistan emerged victorious over India, defeating them by a margin of 18 runs.

During the match at King Edward’s School ground, the Indian VI team won the toss and opted to field first, allowing Pakistan's visually-impaired team to bat. Wearing the Green Shirts, Pakistan managed to achieve a total of 187 runs while losing eight wickets within the designated 20 overs.

Muhammad Salman made a significant contribution with 50 runs from 31 deliveries, while Captain Nisar Ali added 46 runs off 33 balls, and Badar Munir scored 37 runs from 24 balls.

For India’s visually-impaired team, Ajay Kumar Reddy took four wickets, and Nakula Badanayak claimed three Pakistani batsmen.

In response, India's innings were restricted to 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. At a certain point, they required 38 runs from the final three overs. However, an outstanding 18th over by Matiullah conceded only four runs, turning the tide in Pakistan's favor.
