Branding is often misunderstood and misused by people, who use it interchangeably with logo design, identity design, and even sometimes typography. However, branding is not a logo, product, or even a promise a company makes to its customers. It results from a customer's gut feeling about a product, service, or company, which ends up in their heads and hearts. In other words, it is the customer's perception of a business and its reputation.

From a designer's point of view, branding is about telling a story, making a claim, and pitching to the client. However, the client's checklist of having a logo, tagline, and ad campaigns does not represent branding entirely. Branding involves the entire business, including the design of products, messaging, culture, employee behavior, and finance. Almost everybody in a company is affecting the brand, doing something with it, doing it for it, or hurting it.

To achieve a successful brand, businesses must focus on creating a positive perception of their brand in their audience's minds and hearts. It requires a deep understanding of the customer's needs and values, creating a consistent message across all channels, and being aware of the company's actions impact on the brand.
