The Department of Civil Engineering at UET Mardan organized an enlightening seminar titled "Tools for Evolving Intelligent Transportation Systems" in the New Academic Block seminar hall. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Waheed Imran, Post-Doc Fellow at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, who delivered a highly engaging session that captivated the students and faculty alike.
Dr. Waheed provided an in-depth overview of the fundamental features and components of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He elaborated on the cutting-edge simulation and data collection tools employed in developed countries to combat traffic congestion and improve traffic flow efficiency and shared his experience of these tools with the students of the department.
During the seminar, Dr. Waheed stressed the urgent need to implement ITS solutions in Pakistan, considering the growing traffic challenges and congestion in the country's urban areas. He emphasized that adopting ITS could significantly enhance road safety, reduce travel times, and streamline traffic management, paving the way for smarter, more efficient transportation systems.
The seminar concluded with the Head of the Civil Engineering Department presenting a shield to Dr. Waheed Imran as a token of appreciation for his valuable insights. In his concluding remarks, the Head of the Department expressed gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and thanked the organizing faculty for arranging such an impactful session.
The session ended with a lively Q&A, where Dr. Waheed addressed students' questions regarding the applications and future potential of ITS systems in Pakistan and beyond. University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan Celebrates Academic Excellence with Deanโ€™s Award Certificates Ceremony

On 17 December, 2024, University of Engineering and Technology Mardan hosted a prestigious ceremony to honor outstanding students from the Civil Engineering Department, Telecom Engineering Department, and NSH Department, recognizing their exceptional academic achievements. The Deanโ€™s Award Certificates Ceremony acknowledged the hard work and dedication of students who have demonstrated academic excellence with a CGPA of 3.5 and above during the Fall and Spring Sessions.

Dr. Muhammad Alam, Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department, and Dr. Ikram Ullah, Assistant Professor from the NSH Department, presented the Deanโ€™s Honour Certificates to the deserving students from batches 21, 22, and 23. This esteemed recognition is a testament to the studentsโ€™ commitment to academic excellence and their pursuit of knowledge.

The Department of Computer Science, University of Engineering & Technology Mardan proudly launched a program โ€œCareer Launchpad: Transforming Students into Industry Professionalsโ€. This groundbreaking initiative bridges the gap between academia and industry by equipping students with real-world experience, technical skills development, and professional mentorship.
The program aims to provide students with an office-like environment, enabling them to work under the guidance of industry mentors after their classes. Representatives of industries appreciated the initiative of the Chairman, Department of Computer Science and ensured full support and cooperation.
Prof. Dr. Sadaqat Jan, Ex-Dean/Professor Department of Computer Software Engineering was Chief Guest on the occasion. Director Academics, heads of the departments, representative of various software industries and faculty members of the department of Computer Science graced the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science, provided a brief introduction to the program, highlighting its vision to bridge the gap between academia and industry. He elaborated on the roadmap to making this event a success and thanked the industry partners for their invaluable support in shaping the future of the students. Bilal Khan, Managing Director of DevDiligent, Pir Amad, Durshal Mardan, Aftab Wahab, CEO of ApptechMedia shared their views on importance of the program and ensured unwavering support.

On 13th December 2024, UET Mardan successfully hosted the Anti-Drugs Awareness Seminar in collaboration with the Counter Violence and Extremism Department and the District Youth Office Mardan. The seminar began with a welcome address by Mr. Khyber Khan Khattak, Director of Clubs and Societies. Moulana Arshad Yousaf, the keynote speaker, emphasized the Islamic perspective on drug abuse, highlighting its devastating impact on individuals, families, and society. His message underscored the importance of living a virtuous life free from addiction.

Ikram Ullah Khan, Deputy Director of Countering Violence and Extremism, provided valuable insights into the different types of drugs, their effects, and how to identify them, helping the audience better understand the issue.
The event concluded with Dr. Sajjad Ali, Director Academics, presenting shields to the guest speakers in recognition of their contributions. The seminar effectively raised awareness and called for collective action against drug abuse.

On 9th December, UET Mardan celebrated World Anti-Corruption Day with great enthusiasm. The event featured a speech competition and a Walk to promote awareness about the adverse effects of corruption and the importance of integrity. The speech competition was held in two categories: English and Urdu. In the English category, Umar Naeem from the Civil Engineering Department secured the 1st position, Abu Huraira from the Mechanical Engineering Department stood 2nd, and Muhammad Taha from the Computer Science Department achieved 3rd place. In the Urdu category, Malak Amad from Civil Engineering took 1st place, Ismail from Mechanical Engineering came 2nd, and Muhammad Shayaal from the Telecom Engineering Department secured 3rd position. The competition was judged by Muhammad Fayaz and Mr. Fawad Khan from the NSH Department. The Walk, which involved students and faculty members, highlighted the importance of fighting corruption and maintaining transparency. The Vice-Chancellor of UET Mardan commended the efforts of the Director of Clubs and Societies, Mr. Khyber Khan Khattak, along with the organizers and participants, for their dedication in making the event successful. He emphasized the significance of such activities in fostering ethical values and awareness among students.
