On 9th December, UET Mardan celebrated World Anti-Corruption Day with great enthusiasm. The event featured a speech competition and a Walk to promote awareness about the adverse effects of corruption and the importance of integrity. The speech competition was held in two categories: English and Urdu. In the English category, Umar Naeem from the Civil Engineering Department secured the 1st position, Abu Huraira from the Mechanical Engineering Department stood 2nd, and Muhammad Taha from the Computer Science Department achieved 3rd place. In the Urdu category, Malak Amad from Civil Engineering took 1st place, Ismail from Mechanical Engineering came 2nd, and Muhammad Shayaal from the Telecom Engineering Department secured 3rd position. The competition was judged by Muhammad Fayaz and Mr. Fawad Khan from the NSH Department. The Walk, which involved students and faculty members, highlighted the importance of fighting corruption and maintaining transparency. The Vice-Chancellor of UET Mardan commended the efforts of the Director of Clubs and Societies, Mr. Khyber Khan Khattak, along with the organizers and participants, for their dedication in making the event successful. He emphasized the significance of such activities in fostering ethical values and awareness among students. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the position holders to acknowledge their outstanding performances, marking the event as a meaningful step towards promoting integrity and accountability.

On 3rd December, the Islamic Society of UET Mardan organized a Naat & Qirat Competition, showcasing the talent and devotion of students. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Engr. Sanaullah and Mr. Fazle Amin, who served as the honorable judges. In the Naat competition, Gulalai from the Computer Science Department secured 1st position, followed by Saad Ullah from the Telecom Department in 2nd place, and Talha Abbas from the Civil Department in 3rd place. In the Qirat competition, Talha Umar from the Telecom Department stood 1st, Ayesha Gul, also from the Telecom Department, secured 2nd position, and Hamid Hussain from the Civil Department claimed 3rd place.

The Director of Clubs & Societies, Mr. Khyber Khan Khattak, emphasized the significance of co-curricular activities in shaping well-rounded individuals and commended the efforts of the participants and organizers for their dedication and enthusiasm.

On 4th December 2024, the Final Year Students of B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering, UET Mardan, visited Peshawar Light Engineering Center (PLEC) in Hayatabad Industrial Estate - Peshawar. PLEC, equipped with advanced state-of-the-art CNC machines and the latest industrial equipment, serves as a hub for commercial manufacturing and engineering solutions. These include CNC milling, CNC lathe, CNC EDMs, laser engraver, sheet forming, welding units, drilling machines, power hacksaws, and surface grinders.

The students gained practical insights into modern manufacturing processes and advanced engineering practices during the visit. They observed real-time operations of CNC machining, laser engraving, and precision engineering techniques, enhancing their understanding of industrial applications and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands.

The visit was supervised by two Lecturers, Engr. Afnan H. Khan and Engr. Zeeshan Khan, along with Lab Engineer Engr. Faiq Said, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UET Mardan. A significant outcome of the visit was the agreement between Engr. Zeeshan Khan (CLO, MED) and Engr. Sajjad (Manager Technical, PLEC) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the future to further develop the technical skills of the students through collaborations and training programs.

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of UET Mardan successfully hosted a significant training session on "Review of Institutional Performance & Enhancement (RIPE)" and "Program Review & Evaluation (PREE)", aligned with the HEC’s PSG-2023 framework (Pakistan Precepts, Standards, and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education).

The session was conducted by the distinguished Dr. Muhammad Nauman Habib, QEC Manager at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Haripur, who shared his expertise on institutional performance review and program evaluation.

Prominent attendees included Chairpersons of various teaching departments, Director Postgraduate Studies, Advisors Postgraduate Studies, and Program Team Members, as well as participants from the University of Technology, Nowshera.

Key Highlights:
• Detailed insights into institutional performance and program evaluation processes.
• Practical discussions on implementing PSG-2023 quality standards.
• Collaboration and sharing of best practices among academic leaders.

Seminar on SCADA and PLC as industrial automation tool
A one-day seminar on SCADA and PLC as industrial automation tool was conducted by Engr. Muhammad Israr, Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, UET Mardan, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Seminar Hall. Engr. Israr has both teaching and working experience in designing and modeling Industrial processes on PLC and SCADA.
The seminar was highly valued by 5th and 7th semester students, postgraduate students, and faculty members of the university. SDO of SamarBagh, PESCO also attended the seminar. Participants included students from various departments such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering and Telecommunication, alongside faculty members, including Dr. Fazal Muhammad (Assistant Professor, EED), Dr. Irfan Khan (Lecturer, EED), Dr. Jawad Ali (Lecturer, EED), Engr. Salman Saleem (DRE), Engr. Abdullah Farman, Dr. Shayan Tariq Jan (Lecturer, EED), Engr. Zaid Yousuf (Lecturer, EED) and Engr. Mian Amir Ayaz (Lecturer, EED) who actively attended the session.
Engr. Muhammad Israr introduced the attendees to Industrial Automation and various brands of PLCs used in different industries, such as Allen-Bradley PLC, Siemens PLC, and FATEK PLC, along with their internal structures. He familiarized the audience with programming languages used to program PLCs, such as Ladder Logic.
Engr. Muhammad Israr provided hands-on training to develop Ladder Logic for various industrial automation tasks. He demonstrated some PLC-based projects, including an automatic bottle-filling system for industries and an automatic door-opening and closing system for parking areas. These projects were appreciated by the audience and were amused by its vidual UI.
Dr. Jawad Ali concluded the event by thanking the audience, guests and teaching faculty for their participation and contribution. At the conclusion of the seminar, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Engr. Muhammad Israr by Engr. Salman Saleem, Deputy Registrar UET Mardan as a token of gratitude for his valuable time and dedication.

Seminar on Research Paper Writing from FYP Thesis Held at UET Mardan"
A one-day seminar titled "How to Write a Research Paper from an FYP Thesis" was conducted by Dr. Shayan Tariq Jan, Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, UET Mardan, on November 28, 2024. The seminar was highly valued by final-year students, postgraduate students, and faculty members of the university.

Participants included students from various departments such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Telecommunication, alongside faculty members, including Dr. Ajmal Farooq (Assistant Professor, EED), Dr. Irfan Khan (Lecturer, EED), Dr. Jawad Ali (Lecturer, EED), and Engr. Muhammad Israr (Lecturer, EED), who actively attended the session.

Dr. Saba Hassan presented her groundbreaking research during a public seminar, where her work underwent rigorous evaluation by an esteemed Examination Committee comprising renowned scholars. The committee included her internal supervisor, Dr. Abdul Hamid, Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Qurtaba University, Peshawar, who provided expert mentorship, and the external examiner, Prof. Dr. Qaiser Khan, Head of the Department of English at Malakand University.

In addition to this achievement, Dr. Saba has published ten research papers in internationally recognized impact-factor journals, two of which are directly based on her Ph.D. research. Her contributions represent a significant step forward in the fields of gender studies and post-colonial literature.

This outstanding accomplishment reflects Dr. Saba Hassan’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence. UET Mardan extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Saba and wishes her continued success in her scholarly pursuits.

Seminar on Professional Development & Career Counselling

On 19th November 2024, The Directorate of Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization UET Mardan arranged a seminar on Professional Development and Career Counseling emphasized key strategies for fostering growth and success in today's competitive landscape. Special focus was placed on empowering women to excel in global markets by securing projects and achieving financial independence. The importance of skill enhancement to meet international standards was also emphasized, with resources like HEC’s Coursera programs, Udemy, and YouTube identified as valuable tools for continuous learning.
Participants were guided on building strong professional profiles and improving communication skills to gain a competitive edge. The discussion explored diverse career opportunities, ranging from technical fields such as computer science and software engineering to creative non-technical domains like graphic designing, video editing, and content writing.
