Human Rights Day (HR 75)

Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Main theme: Dignity, Equality and Justice for all

For 75 years, the core ambition of the Declaration has been to infuse societies with equality, fundamental freedoms, and justice. It cherishes the rights of all human beings and is a global draft for International, national, and local laws and policies.

This powerful moment emerged from a turbulent era filled with wars, genocide, nuclear threats, and economic instability. Despite these challenges, nations came together to make a solemn promise; to protect and advance the rights of every individual.

That day, 75 years ago, representatives from different legal and cultural backgrounds from all over the world drafted the UDHR, a set of universal rights recognizing equal dignity and worth for everyone.
This declaration proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being- regardless of race, s*x, color, language, religion, birth, or other status.

Human Rights Day is not merely a celebration; it is a solemn reminder of the responsibility we bear as global citizens to uphold and protect the rights of everyone.

As a student, we play a crucial role in shaping the future, and it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and others about the importance of human rights. Let us use our voices to speak out against discrimination and inequality.

This year, we celebrate 75 years of the Declaration standing up for our rights. It's your turn--- Find the rights that resonate with you-- Claim them, and stand up for them.

It is not just a celebration but a call to action.

The Marvels and Perils of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a buzzword in recent years, and its impact on humankind has been significant. On the one hand, AI has brought tremendous benefits to our society, but on the other hand, it poses potential threats that we should be aware of.

Pros:

One of the significant benefits of AI is its ability to automate tedious and repetitive tasks, allowing humans to focus on more creative and complex tasks. AI has revolutionized many industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation. In healthcare, AI can diagnose diseases, personalize treatments, and even predict outbreaks. In finance, AI can analyze massive amounts of data, detect fraudulent activities, and predict market trends. In transportation, AI can improve safety, reduce traffic, and optimize routes.

AI has also enabled humans to accomplish tasks that were previously impossible. For instance, AI can translate languages in real-time, analyze vast amounts of data, and recognize objects and images. AI has also enhanced our daily lives by enabling voice assistants, recommending products, and personalizing content.

Cons:

However, with all the benefits that AI brings, it also poses significant threats to our society. One of the most significant concerns is the potential loss of jobs. As AI automates more tasks, many jobs that were previously done by humans may become obsolete. This may cause economic disruption and social unrest.

Another major concern is the potential misuse of AI. AI can be used for malicious purposes, such as cyber-attacks, deepfakes, and misinformation. AI-powered weapons can also pose a threat to national security and human life.

Impact:

The impact of AI on humankind is undeniable. AI has the potential to transform our society and solve many of our pressing problems. However, we must use AI responsibly and ethically. We need to develop regulations and guidelines that ensure the safe and ethical use of AI. We must also educate ourselves and our communities about the potential benefits and threats of AI.

Conclusion:

Artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword that can bring tremendous benefits and significant threats. As we continue to develop and adopt AI technologies, we must be mindful of its impact on humankind and our planet. We must work together to harness the power of AI for the greater good and mitigate its potential risks.

INTERNATIONAL DAY TO COMBAT ISLAMOPHOBIA
☪️
15th March is United Nations designated international day to combat Islamophobia, which was put forward by Pakistan in 2022 on the behalf of OIC countries.

Islamophobia had taken deep roots in western society post 9/11, & especially in India where Muslims have become a subjugated minority being governed by an extremist group like RSS and their political wing BJP.

Either it's the Muslims of Pale'stine, Myanmar, Uyghurs of Xinjiang region, or Indian Occupied J&K or any type of atrocities on Muslims all over the world in any form or way.

Islamophobia needs to be addressed globally and firm steps should be taken to put an end to this mess and narcissistic divide.

10/02/2023

FAILURES OF PAKISTAN JUDICIAL SYSTEM

The Pakistani judicial system is considered as one of the weakest and least effective in the world. Despite being in existence for over seven decades, it has failed to deliver justice to the masses and has become a symbol of corruption and inefficiency. The judicial system of Pakistan has been plagued by numerous issues that have contributed to its failure and rendered it incapable of providing the citizens of Pakistan with a fair and just trial.

One of the main reasons for the failure of the Pakistani judicial system is the widespread corruption. It is widely acknowledged that corruption is rampant in the Pakistani legal system, and this has seriously undermined the public's confidence in the ability of the courts to deliver justice. It is common knowledge that judges, lawyers, and other legal professionals often engage in corrupt practices such as accepting bribes and making false judgments. This has resulted in the public perceiving the courts as being corrupt and untrustworthy, which has severely impacted the efficacy of the judicial system.

Another factor that has contributed to the failure of the Pakistani judicial system is the slow pace of justice. The legal process in Pakistan is often slow, complicated and convoluted, with cases taking years, if not decades, to be resolved. This has resulted in a backlog of cases that is continuously growing, with many individuals waiting for years to receive a resolution to their legal issues. The slow pace of justice is a result of numerous factors, including the shortage of judges, poor case management, and a lack of modern technology and resources.

Furthermore, the Pakistani judicial system also suffers from a lack of independence and impartiality. Judges in Pakistan are often appointed on the basis of political affiliations rather than merit, and are subject to interference from the government and other powerful interests. This has resulted in a lack of confidence in the impartiality of the courts and a widespread perception that justice is not being served.

Another significant issue with the Pakistani judicial system is the lack of access to justice for marginalized communities and those living in rural areas. The vast majority of the population does not have the resources or knowledge to navigate the complex legal system, and as a result, they are often unable to access justice. This has created a justice gap, where the poorest and most vulnerable members of society are left without recourse.

In conclusion, the Pakistani judicial system is in dire need of reform if it is to deliver justice to the people of Pakistan. The government must take concrete steps to address the issues of corruption, slow pace of justice, lack of independence and impartiality, and access to justice for marginalized communities. Only by addressing these issues can the Pakistani judicial system be transformed into a fair and effective system that serves the needs of all citizens. Until that time, the judicial system of Pakistan will continue to be a symbol of failure and injustice.

Here are ten ways to improve the Pakistani judicial system:

Increase the number of judges: A shortage of judges is one of the main reasons for the slow pace of justice in Pakistan. Increasing the number of judges would help reduce the backlog of cases and speed up the resolution of legal issues.

Implement judicial reforms: Reforms should be made to the current legal system to make it more efficient, transparent and accessible to all. This includes modernizing case management systems and improving the infrastructure of courts.

Address corruption: Corruption is a major issue in the Pakistani judicial system and undermines public confidence in the courts. Strict measures should be taken to eliminate corruption and hold those involved accountable.

Ensure independence and impartiality: Judges should be appointed on the basis of merit, and their independence and impartiality must be protected from interference from the government and other powerful interests.

Increase access to justice: Access to justice must be improved for marginalized communities and those living in rural areas. This can be achieved by setting up legal aid centers and providing legal education to the masses.

Strengthen the rule of law: The rule of law is fundamental to an effective judicial system. The government must ensure that the law is applied consistently and that everyone, regardless of status or power, is held accountable for their actions.

Improve legal education: Improving legal education will help create a pool of knowledgeable and competent lawyers who can provide effective representation to those in need of legal assistance.

Enhance technology and resources: The use of technology and resources such as computers, internet access and modern legal databases can significantly improve the efficiency of the legal system.

Encourage public participation: The public must be encouraged to participate in the legal process, including through public legal education programs, legal aid services and other initiatives.

Implement a monitoring and evaluation system: A system of monitoring and evaluation should be put in place to track the progress of reforms and identify areas for improvement.

In conclusion, these ten measures can help improve the Pakistani judicial system and make it more effective, efficient and accessible to all. By implementing these reforms, the government can demonstrate its commitment to delivering justice to the people of Pakistan.

Extractive institutions and Pakistan

By failure, I don't mean that the nation perishes (dies), but rather, why is the Pakistani economy weak?

Poor countries are poor because the elite class has all the power and makes decisions that create poverty.

The main factors of the failure of the state depend on the state institutions.

"Extractive institutions" mean those who just consider the interests of the elite class. They are the ones that permit the elite to rule and exploit the common men, extracting wealth from those who are not in the ruling class.

Private properties are outlawed, and markets are banned. Narrow elites extract the resources; they flourish at the expense of the civilians.

Extractive institutions remove the majority of the population from participation in political or economic affairs.

Inclusive institutions give equal rights and entitlements, enable equal opportunities, raise voices, provide access to all resources and services, provide good health facilities, provide good education, work on human development where civilians follow law and order, and political leaders get elected, not selected.

Inclusive institutions allow and encourage the participation of the masses in economic activities that make the best use of their talents and skills to create an inclusive market.

Some main theories that fail the state are the geographic theory, the cultural theory (i.e., having a rigid and conservative culture), and the ignorance theory (i.e., leaders have no idea how to make policies).

It's unfortunate that we are living under extractive institutions.

Armed forces in the FATA region

It is difficult to say which specific act by the Pakistani army in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) would be considered the most barbaric, as there have been numerous reports of human rights abuses by the military in this region over the years.

However, some of the most well-documented and widely condemned actions by the Pakistani military in FATA include:
The use of indiscriminate force against civilian populations, including the use of artillery and airstrikes in residential areas, resulted in the deaths of many non-combatants.

Extrajudicial killings, abductions, and disappearances of suspected militants and their relatives, as well as human rights activists and journalists, torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners in detention.

Forced displacement of entire villages and communities, often without compensation or adequate resettlement assistance.

Widespread destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure during military operations.

It's worth mentioning that these are alleged cases and the Pakistan Army has rejected these allegations.
