🙏 Pray for Pope Francis' Health and Recovery 🙏

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has been admitted to the hospital for ongoing treatment of bronchitis. Due to his health condition, he will be unable to participate in public events over the next few days.

Let us unite in prayer for his speedy recovery, that the Lord may grant him strength, healing, and renewed health to continue his pastoral mission.

“Heal me, Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.” (Jeremiah 17:14)

May Our Lady, Health of the Sick, intercede for him. Amen.

Happy Feast of Epiphany 2025. Prayers and Blessings to you all!

Annual Dominican Retreat Focuses on Community, Mary, and Synodality

Lahore – The Dominican Friars of the Ibn-e-Mariam Vice Province of Pakistan began their annual retreat at Ibn-e-Mariam House, Pak Arab, Lahore, from November 11 to 15, 2024. The spiritual sessions, led by His Excellency Bishop Indrias Rehmat of the Faisalabad Diocese, offer a sacred opportunity for reflection, renewal, and growth in the Dominican vocation.

The theme, “Dominican Charism, the Life of the Community as Religious, Mother Mary as Model, and the Idea of Synodality,” reflects the profound call to deepen the communal bonds and spiritual foundations that define Dominican life. Over the course of the retreat, the friars will be invited to contemplate their call to service through the inspiration of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the principles of unity and shared mission embraced by the Synod.

We wish our Dominican brothers a grace-filled retreat, filled with renewed strength, wisdom, and communal unity. May this time of spiritual enrichment empower them to continue their mission in faithfulness to Christ and the Dominican charism.

Season of Creation 2024: A Call to Protect Our Common Home

In response to Pope Francis’ call, the Catholic Women’s Organization Lahore (CWO) and Caritas Pakistan Lahore (CPL) celebrated the Season of Creation on October 19 at St. John’s Parish, Youhanabad, Lahore, with the support of the parish team. The event began with a march led by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Akram Javed, joined by 150 participants from women’s groups, Sunday school, and security personnel, who carried banners and planted trees along the roadsides to raise awareness for environmental protection.

Fr. Akram welcomed participants with a prayer, and Ms. Shaheen Yousaf (CWO) shared the Season’s objectives, highlighting the need to reconnect with creation in line with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’. Brother Faisal’s reflection on Romans 8:19-25 urged everyone to heed the “cries of the Earth” for future generations, and a performance by St. John’s Boys High School students showcased the impact of deforestation.

Mr. Naeem Naz, CPL’s Diocesan Program Coordinator, discussed the urgency of addressing climate change and encouraged practical actions like conserving water, reducing plastic, and planting trees. The event concluded with the Laudato Si’ prayer, affirming a united commitment to care for our common home. Fr. Akram expressed gratitude to CWO, CPL, and all who made the day meaningful.

New Milestone for the Church in Pakistan: Inauguration of the Urdu Reference Bible

November 8, 2024—The Catholic Church in Pakistan rejoices as the Urdu Reference Bible was inaugurated on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the Urooj-e-Mariam Renewal Centre in Lahore. The event was graced by the collective presence of all bishops of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference, who gathered to bless this significant addition for the faithful.

This project, initiated in 2016, has brought forth an Urdu translation of the Jerusalem Bible, promising to enrich the spiritual lives and biblical understanding of Urdu-speaking Christians. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Joseph Shahzad, Executive Secretary of the Catholic Bible Commission, for his dedication to this work, and to Mr. Tariq Tufail, Program Media Incharge, for organizing the event.

This new Bible is a cherished gift, offering invaluable support for catechesis, theological study, and personal devotion. We give thanks to God for this sacred blessing and pray it draws many closer to His Word.

Celebrating 170 Years of Faith: St. James Parish Honors Tradition with New Via Crucis

Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Ashraf Gill, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Bernard Emmanuel, Associate Priest, and all the faithful of St. James Catholic Church, on the recent blessings and celebration of the newly built Via Crucis.

On November 8, 2024, St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in Sialkot Cantt welcomed a distinguished visitor, Major General Agha Masood Akram, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), Retired, and Director General of the Army Institute of Military History (AIMH). Major General Akram, intrigued by the rich history of churches in Sialkot Cantt, chose to visit St. James as part of the 170th-anniversary celebrations of the parish.

During his visit, Major General Akram was taken to the newly constructed Via Crucis (The Way of the Cross) in the parish compound. This sacred site, recently inaugurated by clergy, religious sisters, and military officers, represents a labor of love and faith. Its completion was made possible through the generous support of parishioners and friends of St. James, to whom the parish extends heartfelt thanks.

May God continue to bless St. James Catholic Church and its community, and may this new Via Crucis inspire the faithful and uplift all who visit.
