Why do extremists in Pakistan attack Shia living in the country?
Shias account for 15-20% of the Muslim population in Pakistan while the remaining 77% are Sunni. The country is home to the 2nd largest Shia population after Iran.

Shias in Pakistan are spread across the country with the majority of them living in the Gilgit-Baltistan province. Cities like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan are also home to large Shia communities.

There are numerous Shia mosques and dargahs, or shrines in Pakistan.

The Shias in Pakistan are specifically discriminated against, targeted, and killed by various Sunni terror groups.

Among Shias, the most vulnerable are the Hazara community which is mostly concentrated in the south-western province of Balochistan, in the capital city of Quetta. Hazaras are easily recognizable because of their appearance and language.

The hate campaign against Shias usually increases during the month of Muharram, when Shias mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) by conducting street processions. This year too, at least a dozen Shia Zakir and clerics including Allama Ghazanfar Tounsvi, Iqbal Shah, and Hafiz Tassaduq, were arrested in Pakistan on blasphemy charges. The weirdest thing is that these Shia clerics were reciting the same chants that have been used in Ashura for centuries. At least 42 blasphemy cases were registered across Pakistan and most of the accused belonged to the Shia community. In Pakistan, a cleric who recites Ziyarat-e-Ashura; a prayer that denounces the killers of Imam Hussain(AS), is imprisoned whereas Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) extremists who target and threaten Shias roam freely.

Besides, wall chalkings of “Shias are Kafir” appeared on the street walls of various neighborhoods in Karachi after Muharram; a decades-old hate practice common since the 80s.

The biggest irony is that the founder of Pakistan was Muhammad Ali Jinnah. However, Jinnah’s vision seems to have eroded with the passage of time in Pakistan. Now, not only non-Muslims but sub-sects such as Shias are also targeted and persecuted. Even in an Islamic country like Pakistan, Shias can’t practice their Islamic beliefs freely.

The Taboo Of Haq Bakshish In Pakistan where women are forced to marry the Quran:

Pakistan is home to a number of different societal taboos. Taboos, which we’ve created for ourselves, through our versatile set of minds which only thinks of our selfish ways. One taboo which is not talked about much is of women being forced the marry the Holy Quran.

The term, traditionally known as Haq Bakshish, literally means giving up the right to marry. This tradition is as inhumane as anything else in the world, where women are forced off their rights to marry and live in isolation. To think of it, these women since childhood are treated as born slaves who will do whatever the patriarchal mindset of their family says. The only thing they could ever look forward to, marriage, is taken away from them as well.

Known as the ‘wives of the Quran’ are forced by their families to marry the Quran instead of a human of the opposite s*x. The reason? It is very simple. This way, the family gets to keep the property with them, instead of giving it away to the girls upon their marriage. To link something so selfish and inhumane with the Holy Quran is questionable itself, but to do it for the sake of money only makes things worse.

An incident highlighted by the Pakistan Press International (PPI) said, “Seven years ago, Zubaida Ali witnessed a bizarre ceremony in her ancestral village in Sindh where her cousin Fareeba was married to the Holy Quran. It was extremely odd and, of course, very tragic. Fareeba, who is a very pretty girl and was then around 25 years old, was dressed as a typical bride, with red, sequined clothes, jewelry and mehndi patterns on her hands and feet but over all this, she was dr**ed in an enveloping dark chaadar. There was music and lots of guests but no groom.

Families use Haq Bakshish to prevent property leaving the family when a girl weds someone who is not a relative. Fareeba, who can now never wed a man, spends most of her time studying the Holy Quran or stitching. She is a Hafiza or one who knows the Holy Quran by heart.”

Even though it is believed that the tradition mostly goes on in Sindh, especially within Syed families, but there have incidents out of the stereotype as well. Whoever wants to keep their properties intact and not give anything out of the family with the girl, they usually marry their sisters/daughters to the Quran.

Under Pakistan’s law, the Haq Bakshish tradition is punishable by a seven-year prison sentence, but no one dares report such cases. Since it is mostly practiced by Syeds, it is believed that the issue should be kept in secrecy, due to the nature of their ‘shajra’. Although Islam allows women to marry whoever they want, it seems that the hidden taboo in Pakistan will claim a few more brides before it is addressed publicly.

R**e:

Today it becomes a major problem of our society, country and even for this world.

Generally we don't write on such type of cases but recently when I listened a very horrific news of r**e of a woman who was r**ed by some people in front of her children and when we come to know about whole scenario our mind and heart vibrate for a moment.

I started thinking what is the reason behind such terrible things that a ra**st do without any fear from his family and society. Even he has no fear what the consequences will be.

Let me tell you that ra**sts are not kind of population by nature, ra**sts are present among all of us, just need to recognize them and understand their distorted mindset so that we can save us from such type of person and things in future.

One important thing we all need to know is that a person does not transform himself into a ra**st, our society, system, media and even religion have big role in the production of people with such perverted mindset.

All these things can manipulate easily a normal person mindset if he could not analyze. I think that there is a very great role of these behind a ra**st mindset. We can say this on behalf of assessment of a ra**st mind.

Ra**st has cognitive distortion: They think like women are s*x objects, they think that women are receptive to s*xual needs of a men. Women can not be hurt by s*xual activities unless physical harms. Women body language is more important than what she are saying.

There are so many things I don't know that arises in a ra**st mind.

Now we come on topic of why a ra**st r**e? This is a very big question in front of all of us.

It can be due to s*xual fantasies and urges and other due to as*xual reasons . when we come across these things deeply then we can classify the ra**st.

I think there are three basic type of ra**st

1) Opportunistic ra**st: For example if a girl or lady is going alone in late night and there is no any witness around then such type of ra**st finds immediate s*xual gratification on exerting a slight force so they try to such things.

Here the woman should be self-sufficient for self-defense and dare to fight and handle the situation. Never consider yourself weak.

2) Sexually deprived ra**st: Such type of ra**sts are full with s*xual fantasies and urges and they have cognitive distortion too, i think such type of ra**st may have some physiological problem.

Here we can easily recognize such type of ra**st by their body language and behaviour. When someone touch your body in such way that make you feel s*xually then avoids from such type of people or take a strong steps in case of confirmed.

3) Anger ra**st: They have a feelings of revenge and they have fantasies of humiliation of women and try to express their power and control over the feminine. Such types of ra**st is most violent and commit a horrific r**e scene.

Here I think it can be controlled by only making a very strict laws that could vibrate the body and mind of a ra**st mindset. There should be fast-track courts to solve such type issues immediately.
If we all want to minimize or eradicate such things from society and country, we have to empower the women and reform the rusted concept of society and we all have to exert a heavy pressure over government to bring a very strict laws.

I request to all-female that please learn self defense and make it as important aspect of life.

In last I want to say that we all are human, a beautiful creation of this divine nature and we all are like a living colorful flowers which filled with fragrance of Love, emotions, feeling and devotion. When this kind of fragrance spreads, that place turns into heaven.

Please stop the things that turns this mankind into a speechless, lustful and cruel animal.

Who is the biggest enemy of Pakistan?

As a Pakistani I want to ask my fellow Pakistanis, “Who, do you think, is the biggest enemy of Pakistan?”

Is it India?

America?

Israel?

Who is your real enemy?

As far as I think, the biggest enemies of Pakistan are not from any foreign land.

You remember the Maulvi who during Friday sermon instead of telling you about Quran and ahadiths started pulling legs of other sect?

Or do you remember that one person or may be many who while bribing looked at you and said shamelessly, “Sab kartay Hain.” (Everybody does it.)

Or do you remember in days of elections when we say, “Let's go and cast our vote.” And there is this one person who says, “Chaddo ji. Mitti pao.” (Just leave it)

Or while working in a government office, that one lethargic person, who suddenly becomes the most vigilant as he gets the news of audit team coming?

Or the one Man who tells his pregnant wife, “I just want son.”

Or the one man or woman who tells a girl, “Kuch bhi Kar lo, Jitna marzi parh lo. Karni to Handi roti hai.” (Do whatever you want, study whatever you want, in end all you have to do is house chores.)

Or the boy who broke signal and proudly bragged, “Tera Bhai aaj signal Tod ke aaya hai.” (Your brother came here breaking signals.)

Or the one person who littered in a park or a public place and when you stopped, they replied, “There is already a lot of garbage. Our one wrapper is doing nothing.”

These all and a lot like them are the true enemies of Pakistan. Recognize them and never ever follow their footsteps.

It's our country, our responsibility. It's us who will make it better.

How serious are blasphemy accusations in Pakistan?

On July 29, an old man named Tahir Naseem was killed inside Peshawar's courtroom in front of a judge who was accused of blasphemy.

"During the hearing of the case, the complainant said that the accused was an Ahmadi and asked him to recite the Kalima-e-Tayyaba," she said, adding that the complainant then fired at the elderly man and killed him.

Naseem was in police custody since 2018 due to his prophecy claims. He was charged under sections 295-A, 295-B and 295-C of the Pakistani penal code, which deals with blasphemy against Islam, criminalizing, among other things, "defiling the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad". There is one video viral at Facebook where Tahir Naseem publically apologizes over his prophecy claims and reaffirms his Muslim faith. This video is in Pushto and I know the majority will not be able to understand it.

Local man Khalid who was in the courtroom shot Tahir 6 times and was instantly arrested by the Police.

As a Muslim and Pakistani, I have no clue how to react over this incident. Even If I completely stand with Islamic Law (Sharia), an accused cannot be punished until his guilt found proven. Based on the reports and stories I read at tabloids and newspapers, Tahir was killed before any judgment given by the court. Muslims in Pakistan are very sensitive towards the honor of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) where the accused may lose his/her life in case of saying any inappropriate thing. However, in most cases, it is observed many people were falsely accused of blasphemy on grounds of personal and political conflicts. Mishaal Khan's case is a prime example where he was killed by some of his university fellows on account of blasphemy charges. Later it was revealed they had personal feud with Mashaal and used blasphemy card to get rid of him.

There is very high trend of blasphemy accusations in Pakistan since Independence. Between 1967 to 2014, over 1300 people were charged with blasphemy accusations where Muslims constituting the most.

Asia Bibi nearly served a decade behind bars over blasphemy charges and was eventually released by the Supreme Court of Pakistan due to “insufficient evidence”. This is quite interesting all those people who accused Asia Bibi of blasphemy were spared and weren't interrogated by state agencies.

The state of Pakistan must introduce strong punishments to those people who falsely accuse their opponents of blasphemy. The state shouldn't come in any pressure and ensure no one is above the law.

What are some things that make or have made you lose faith in humanity?

This is an my old woman’s story.

During Hajj or Umrah (an Islamic pilgrimage) Muslims are required to go around the Kaaba 7 times. This is called Tawaf.

This black squared like structure is called Kaaba. In these pictures you can see people doing Tawaf. However during Hajj the entire place is crowded with millions of people.

Coming to main story now.

An old woman went for Hajj with her own brother. She was doing Tawaf along with him. He was holding her hand to support her and also so that she doesn’t get lost. That woman being old was a bit slow to do the Tawaf. Her brother soon got annoyed with her because of her slow speed (they didn’t even complete the first round yet).

Realizing her brother was disliking her slow movement, she tried to speed up but her legs gave up soon.

What happened next was very, very, very unfortunate.

He cursed her for being so slow and left her in the crowd amongst millions, saying that he cannot spoil his own Tawaf because of her.

She sat down and started crying.

People come to do Hajj to erase all the sins from their lives. Here in this holy place someone probably committed the worst sin of their life.

What surprised me the most is that her brother is highly educated and is a doctor. His business card is filled with mind blowing degrees from all around the world but what he did made me lose faith in humanity.

I’d like to thank everyone who showed their condolences and comfort for this unfortunate incident with that old woman. By the grace of Allah, she was able to complete her Tawaf on her own and was also able to return to her hotel safely!

Also if any of you have elderly relatives who plan on Hajj/ Umrah please ensure only some responsible, caring and trustworthy individual accompanies them to make their pilgrimage comfortable and peaceful.

Why does Pakistan not consider Israel a country?

The vast majority of Pakistanis in general do have very rigid and hardline views towards Israel. Considering the fact Pakistan and Israel are the only countries on earth who were formed on religious ideologies, it looks awkward where Pakistanis question the legitimacy of Israel for the same reasons. The people in Pakistan are in the opinion that our state should not recognize Israel as long as they are hostile towards Palestine and involved in human rights violations.

After the UAE peace process with Israel, all eyes are towards Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to check their state-level reactions. If I’m not mistaken, there is complete silence in Saudi’s camp and they are evaluating the situation. As far as Pakistan is concerned, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his yesterday’s interview emphasized Pakistan will not recognize Israel and will continue to support Palestine's cause.

“Our stance is very clear from day one and Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had said Pakistan can never accept state of Israel until the people of Palestine get rights and state,” he said in an interview with a private news channel on Tuesday.

Some people from us have similar thoughts as Imran Khan. According to them Pakistan should not recognize Israel as they are cruel towards Palestinians.

If it is the only parameter of not recognizing Israel?

We have fought 4 wars with India and have disputes on number of things including Kashmir however we still have diplomatic relations.

The govt of China’s treatment with Muslims of Uighur is questionable and they are accused of concentration camps.

We call Saudia Arabia as “Our beloved Islamic Brother” who has bombed Yeman and behind the shortage of food.

What do you say about Turkey who recently attacked Syria.

We are in strategic partnership with USA and I don't need to tell you what happened to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria over the years.

If we care about Muslim Ummah, why do we have relations with these countries?

I’m 100 cents sure you will come across many Pakistanis with similar thoughts as I listed above. I’m not going to say Pakistan should instantly recognize Israel however I’m against the idea of illogical enmity which doesn't make any sense to me. Turkey who is considered as Pakistani’s best friend has more trade volume with Israel than any other Muslim country. Despite hardline views and pro-Palestinian sentiments, Turkey still enjoys and maintains good relations with Israel.

Pakistan must stand and support Palestine at every international forum however we cannot build our state relations with any country on the morality scale. If we still have some people who believe in such things, we should first cut our ties with China and Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan should evaluate all options in the near future. If there is any benefit of having good relations with Israel, our state should definitely consider it.

05/08/2020

I remember the blistering Pakistani summers of 2014. Pakistan was shackled in clutches of corruption, crime and credit crisis. There was so much wrong with the country.

Coffers of state were drained empty, economy was in tatters, and we were buried in billions of dollars of debt. There was democracy in Pakistan, but you could buy a vote for the price of a loaf of bread.

Prime Minister of Pakistan was in Supreme Court on charges of electoral fraud, but we all knew it would amount to nothing. After all, judges could be bribed and laws could be bent for the rich and powerful. Terrorist attacks and bomb blasts had become part of our daily lives. I remember the night a bomb exploded in a police station less than a mile away from my home. Two police officials had died and a few were injured, yet the news hardly received any media coverage. This was the Pakistan of 2014 etched in my mind.

Amid all this mayhem, appeared Khan, a messiah who claimed to shatter the steel sheets of status quo. On August 14th 2014, Imran Khan beckoned Pakistanis to march towards Islamabad, the powerhouse of Pakistan. We answered his call. And why would not we? Tall, handsome, and charismatic, Imran Khan was the leader we had all been waiting for. He was a graduate from Oxford University. He was author of half a dozen books. He was the captain of World Cup winning team of Pakistan Cricket in 1990s.

Khan was a celebrity, not only in Pakistan, but in other parts of world. He was a chancellor at University of Bradford in UK. He married to the daughter of one of the richest families in UK. He was offered roles as a lead actor in Bollywood movies. And above all, he was a philanthropist. He built free cancer hospitals, universities, colleges, and spearheaded many charity campaigns in the country.

Hence, when Imran Khan called out Pakistanis in 2014, tens of thousands of people poured into the streets and marched from all over the country to join Khan’s cause. A huge slice of Pakistani youth population lionized him.

We would paint our faces in colors of red and green, and shout slogans of revolution. We would sing and dance to the beat of patriotic songs, while waving resplendent banners and flags. And we would dare to dream for a ‘New Pakistan’.

A new Pakistan not marred with corruption and injustice, not ruled by criminals and plunderers. A new Pakistan where everyone was equal before law. A new Pakistan where the rights of minorities and transgenders were championed. A new Pakistan where the oppressed, the vulnerable, and the ones crumbling under the endless cycle of abject poverty were given a shoulder to lean on. After decades of corruption and unspeakable inequities, we dared to dream for a new Pakistan. Under the helm of Khan.

And Khan with his fiery speeches, laced with poetic expressions and powerful words, sparked hope in our hearts that, probably for the first time in the history of country, there is a leader who genuinely cares for us Pakistanis.

The protest was non-violent and lasted for four long months before it was called off due to a terrorist attack in a school that killed more than 100 students in December 2014. However, in those four months, Imran Khan flowered as a leader of people in 2014. In 2017, eventually, the then-Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, was removed from office for corruption charges. In 2018 elections, Khan won with a massive majority and became the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

But perhaps we were naive. Because we were let down. Again! Because two years later today, not much has changed. There have been minor improvements. Prime Minister Khan has worked to improve Pakistan’s foreign policy and country’s tarnished image in the world. He introduced austerity drive in the government, cutting down salaries of minister and minimizing unnecessary expenditures. He fortified the National Accounting Bureau to impose draconian measures to eliminate corruption. But these achievements pale down in comparison to his shortcomings.

During his election campaign, he made tall claims and lofty promises to Pakistanis. Khan promised he would prefer death than another loan from IMF or World Bank. He promised 10 million jobs for lower class of Pakistan. He promised to bring all the looted money back to Pakistan. He promised to share a huge slice of budget for education and health. He promised justice, independent media, and strict accountability. He made a total of 49 promises in his election manifesto. Alas, as of now, only one saw the dawn of realization. Pakistanis continue to suffer. The economy is still in tatters. The poor and the disadvantaged are bearing the brunt of the consequences. And trust in politicians is slowly withering again.

Soon after coming to power, Khan probably realized Pakistan cannot be ruled without the aye of military and mullahs (religious leaders). Military take the highest cut from budget and many retired army generals are on important posts in Khan’s cabinet. Meanwhile, mullahs, with their tall turbans and fist-sized beards, enjoy plenty of power and influence among Pakistani public. Khan knows better than to anger mullahs because if you take a peek down Pakistan’s history books, you would see governments toppled and ministers mercilessly murdered with the wrath of bearded men. In 2018, Khan decided to bring in an internationally acclaimed and award-winning economist, Atif Mian, as his financial advisor. However, his decision garnered huge backlash because Mian was an Ahmadi. Ahmadis are minorities in Pakistan and radical Islamist are bent upon eradicating them from Pakistan. Soon after Mian’s appointment, protests broke out in country, and Khan had to bow down to the religious fanatics.

Recently, with the crumbling economy and Corona virus, Khan’s popularity among the public is waning like never before. Imran Khan has not lived to the the expectations of Pakistanis. However, this is not the first time we have been disappointed. Perhaps we hoped too big or expected too much from Khan. Or perhaps it is too early to judge Khan who was handed down a country in shambles, cities riddled with social issues, and an economy on the brink of bankruptcy.

Khan, in response to criticism, doles out blame at previous governments for looting the economy and destroying institutions in Pakistan. He claims change is coming in Pakistan, albeit slowly, but it is coming. But that is what every previous leader has said. Pakistanis are tired of lofty promises that are rendered to empty words after elections. Hope is running thin because while we can complain, the truth is, in a country full of corrupt politicians, Khan is the best leader at our disposal. A one-eyed king in a kingdom of blind.

Recently, the Govt of Pakistan approved the construction of first ever Krishna Temple in Islamabad. Like many other Pakistanis, I’m happy that this decision will definitely give positive wibes to Hindu community living in our country.

Pakistan Hindu Panchayat requested for allotted area for construction of Krishna Temple in Islamabad which was approved by Capital Development Authority in 2016. However due to lack of resources, they requested Imran Khan for funds on Jan 11, 2020. Imran Khan reconsidered their request and grant Rs.100 million for the construction of Temple on June 27, 2020.

Meanwhile there are few politicians and ultra-religious people who made it an issue of life and death.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi who is key alley of Imran Khan led Govt opposed the decision of construction of Temple in Islamabad.

“We support the rights of the minorities. The existing temples should be repaired. During my tenure, I had got Katas Raj temple repaired. During my tenure also, for the first time in the budget in Pakistan, funds were allocated for repairs of the churches.”

Ittehad-e-Tanzeem Madaris Pakistan which represents Sunni Brelvi school of thought expressed their reservations. M***i Muneeb who is head of Ittehad-e-Tanzeem Madaris Pakistan and known for moon sighting controversies labelled it as” against the spirit of Islam and also an insult to the ‘state of Madina’.

M***i Taqi Usmani who is well known scholar from Sunni-Deobandi School of thought did critize Imran Khan’s initiative of construction of Krishna Temple in Islambad.

He said, “Non-Muslims in the Islamic state have the right to maintain their places of worship wherever it is necessary for their population. A country like Pakistan which is made for peace can build new places of worship as per the need,” he maintained. However, M***i Usmani said, “It is not permissible for the government to build a temple at its own expense, especially at a place where the Hindu community is not in a big number.” M***i Taqi Usmani said, “I don’t know why these types of things are being popped up that will only yield nothing but harm.”

I’m not Muslim scholar, however I feel the comments made by these religious heads are very disappointing and discouraging. These religious scholars accuse India, Israel, USA and some other Western countries for intolerance towards Muslims however this example pretty much sums up their pilferage towards minotiries living in Pakistan. These type of people did criticize Govt of Pakistan on inaugration of Kartarpur Corridor.
