Basically, I wasn’t sure if I should hop on this trend or not. One, I’m not one for following trends and two, there are quite a few ethical concerns about AI training themselves on an artist’s work and recreating it, and rightly so. Studio Ghibli has always breathed life into an otherwise bland world and I am and will be, forever grateful!

Which is why there was always a desire to live in a Ghibli-esque world. This sort of brings that imagination to life.

Looking through my phone for pictures to use, I realised something else. My life has been full of so many beautiful moments. AI makeovers aren’t needed to appreciate them so here’s to my already almost Ghibli-esque life!

Was 2024 a mixed bag, with quite a few moments that I would rather not visit?

Yes.

Was 2024 full of a lot of amazing food moments that I would love to revisit, again and again?

Also yes.

To be honest, I haven’t posted a review in a while. There’s a few good reasons why. The word review implies a certain level of objectivity and therein lies the inherent flaw. Nearly all reviews rely heavily on the author’s opinion, and like too many cooks ruin the broth, relying on others’ opinions without factoring in their baseline subjectivity is a recipe of disappointment.

For example, I like my steaks medium-rare. To that effect, the centre of said steaks would be what many people would call raw. The meat would increase in donesss as you edge closer and closer to the surface. That surface too, must be richly caramelised. The maillard-induced caramelisation enhances the earthy richness of the beef, with each bite being meltingly tender because it’s cooked to a perfect medium rare, that’s my ideal steak. And because Okra managed to achieve that so perfectly, one would see me waxing lyrical about them.

Now, you would have read my musings and ordered a steak in a similar fashion, but your ideal of a steak is well-done. I mean, I’m not judging but why? Anyways, your ideal is a well-done steak that is uniformly grey-brown throughout, without a hint of pink. You may even enjoy chewing on your steaks and the way the dry fibres separate in your mouth. So imagine your disappointment when you go to Okra and order a medium-rare steak after some random account on the internet told you to?

While the above may be a slight exaggeration, I would still rather post nice pictures of my food without a review. After all, the food in the pictures have already delivered the joy they promised. Otherwise, why would anyone go through the effort of posting?

Pictured here:
1) Pepper-crusted Steak with Roquefort Sauce
2) Persimmon and Brie Crostini
3) Coffee-rubbed Beef Carpaccio with Tarragon Vinaigrette
4) Fig with Bresaola and Gorgonzola

All from ! Which would you try?

I have always had a strong belief in leaving a place better than you’ve found it. Be it the workplace, city, country, or the world at large; and the world is in dire need of our attention. Look around you and you will find waste that continues to pollute our land and sea. You will notice how our people have accepted the unhygienic conditions as their way of life, and unfortunately, instead of helping out, we look away with judgemental and disgusted eyes.

Partnering with the WWF to launch the Plastic Recovery Bank (PRB) and the Stars of the Planet Competition, is close to my heart, especially, because I want to encourage our children to work towards a greener, cleaner and healthier Pakistan. Of course, they can rest assured that they will always have my support. Speaking to the students across various institutions filled my heart with hope because I saw in them what my mirror showed all those years ago. Well, not all that long ago.

I stand here, along with Qasim and Abdul Hadi under the guidance of Zaid Seth, proudly leading Pakistan Beverage Limited over numerous sustainability initiatives. From saving water to recycling to reducing carbon emissions, everything leads back to the very first sentence and this is only the beginning.

It is rewarding and humbling at the same time to know I am someone my team looks up to. Little do they know, it is their trust, respect and support that I am the leader today. And so for their sake, I aim to see a sustainable environment not just for our planet, but also the community that we continue to build at PBL and HKHM as a whole.

I am passionate about leaving all of this better than I found it for our children, and I’m sure you do too. All I ask is that you do your part and support whatever sustainable project you believe in. Only then will our children thrive the way we want them to. Only then will we flourish as individuals, as a community, as humanity.

Reflection.

They say time is a devourer of all things, and while that may be true to some extent, I disagree. With time I have learned to reflect, accept and welcome what has been and what is to come.

If you’ve ever wondered what KCCI is or who is eligible or why I’m even taking part, you’ve come to the right place. Follow me as I answer questions on what it’s all about!

This venture is very close to my heart for two reasons. My late father, Siraj Kassam Teli (SI), devoted his life to this city, which meant serving the country given how Karachi generates the highest revenue in the country. He worked selflessly to create a safe and prosperous environment for the business community. Secondly, this city is more than just our home and I look forward to rebuilding it with the love and respect that she rightly deserves.

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry elections take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024. If you are a registered voter, please don’t forget to bring your original CNIC. We look forward to your vote for the BMG Panel Serial No. 1-30. For those who cannot cast their vote, we appreciate your support and prayers. When my father left us four years ago, Karachi lost her life and today I hope, together, we can bring it back.

I’ve been struggling to find words for anything lately. And the words that I have found, I am not ready or willing to share yet. In what has become one of the most challenging years, personally and professionally, the emotional weight of it all is often too much. Thus, priorities have shifted and we move on.

The struggle continued today. I wanted to post about independence. I could have come up with something about what Azadi means to me or some contrived message for hope. Hope isn’t all lost but this isn’t really a hopeful time. It’s a time where everything is being called into question, made to stand trial, regardless of whether or not it deserves to be so.

It’s a time where each person’s personal crucibles are lit and heated to extreme degrees. The heat makes you wonder if it can actually forge a strong resolve or weaken an already shaken confidence. I guess we can only wait for the crucibles to open to truly learn the outcomes.

But at what cost? Will a strong resolve still have to prove their credentials in the face of cynics and their flawed morality? Will decrepit arguments continue to launch malicious attacks on true bastions of progress? Will the pillars of unity, faith and discipline finally give way, the masquerade of morality fall and the fanaticism, finally, truly be revealed? Will it all have been for nothing?

There are some outcomes I’d rather not know. For now though, from my crucible, Happy Independence Day.
