🌴The Story of Fadak

⚠️The people of Madinah failed in this test.
🫵🏻 What will we do?

◾️Fadak was the name of a garden that was given to the Prophet (s) after the conquest of Khaybar and the surrender of the Jews. It was given due to a compromise. In other words, it was given to the Prophet without a battle being fought. According to verses six and seven of Chapter Hashr, property that was obtained without a battle was at the disposal of the Prophet himself. He had the authority to give such property to whomsoever he wished. The Holy Prophet gave this garden to his daughter, Lady Fatimah (as), after the revelation of verse 26 of Chapter Al-Isra.

◾️This was a hard test that God took from the Muslims of Madinah, and the people failed in this test. The people of Madinah, many of whom did not have a good financial situation at that time, could not tolerate the Prophet's daughter having such a large garden while they themselves did not have a garden or property.

◾️The last words of Lady Zahra (as) to the women who came to visit her were about the fact that she was grieved by their actions. She told them that if they had given control of the government to Imam Ali (as), they would have been flooded with worldly, material blessings too. Imam Ali himself said, “If the nation had followed and obeyed me after the passing of the Prophet (s), ‘they would be eating from above them and from beneath their feet.’ [Qur’an 5:66]” [Al-Ihtijaj, vol. 1, p. 153] But this did not happen because the people could not tolerate that they did not have a garden while the Prophet's daughter had a garden!

◾️This flood of blessings would have come on the condition that when they saw that Fatimah Zahra had a garden while they were poor, they had been satisfied, not held a grudge against her and not usurped her garden.

◾️Today, when the believers who are not in a very good financial situation go to the shrine of Imam Husayn (as) or Imam Reza (as) and they see that a courtyard has been added to the area around the shrine and that the glory of the Household of the Prophet’s shrine has increased, they become very happy.

◾️At that time, the people of Madinah took Fadak from Fatimah in their first test regarding the garden of Fadak. Everyone was gathered in the mosque. Fatimah Zahra (as) entered. She gave a brilliant speech, which became famous as the Fadak Sermon. At the end of her sermon, she asked why they had taken Fadak away from her? They said that the Prophet had said he would not leave behind an inheritance! She told them that the Prophet never talked in contradiction to the Qur’an. She brought proof from the Qur’an and recited the verse where it is said that the prophets leave inheritance.

◾️The one who had taken Fadak from her talked about her wisdom and said, “I do not say your correct words should be thrown away, and I do not deny your words. These Muslims are judges between you and me, and they entrusted this government to me.” When the people refused to support her after she had spoken with them, she turned to the Prophet’s grave and complained to him.
Fadak was usurped by all the people of Madinah, not just a few people! They thought they could all receive something from Fadak, so they refused to help her to get her right back.

◾️It was then that Fatimah Zahra (as) returned home due to the people's indifference. She explained to Imam Ali (as) that the people hadn’t helped her and had disgraced her. Imam Ali (as) calmed her and said, “Say, ‘God is sufficient for me.’” So she said, “God is sufficient for me.”
Of course, you know that Lady Zahra was not concerned about the money for herself. She wanted that hard historic test to be taken from them and for them to achieve a spiritual growth where they would not say, “If the Immaculate Ones are higher than us regarding spiritual matters, we’re fine with that. But if they are higher than us in material matters, we can’t tolerate this!” No, this is wrong. We must reach this spiritual growth and remember that the blessings that come to us come by way of this Household.

🔴Fatimiyah means protesting against the crime of "people's silence"

◾️Why do we usually consider religion to be an individual matter and don’t pay much attention to it’s social dimensions? More than being due to our ignorance, the root of this problem is a mental and psychological problem that most people suffer from, and that problem is "fearing society."

◾️People are usually passive and timid in dealing with society. That is, they are afraid of the multitude of people and feel overwhelmed by them. Therefore, they think they are only affected by society, not that they affect society. One of the signs of us being overwhelmed and influenced by society is that if someone or a group of people encourage us, we feel good. If they humiliate and ridicule us, we feel bad.

◾️A sign of a Shi’a is that he is not passive toward society. Rather, he is independent. Imam Baqir (as) told Jabir Ju’fi, “Know that you are not our friend unless even if all the people of your city come to you and say that you are a bad person, you do not become sad. And if they say that you are a good person, you do not become happy.” [Tuhaf al-Uqul, p. 284] That is, a sign of our Shi’a is that the society cannot raise them up, bring them down or crush them. In dealing with society, they are independent, not passive. (In other words, having such a spirit is a sign of a true Shi’a, and we must move toward this peak and desired point.)

◾️Why is sincerity emphasized so much? Why is hypocrisy so bad? A person shouldn’t be crushed by society, not even by one person.

◾️Our religious upbringing says that we should not be afraid of society, be passive or be influenced by society. The fact that many people avoid encouraging good and forbidding evil is because of their weakness and passive attitude toward society. Many good people are not willing to make use of their reputation for the cause of God’s religion, because they do not have the courage to do so. Try to strengthen your courage and determination and walk on this path.

◾️It is the period of Fatimiyah now. If a person objects to the fact that the people did not defend Lady Zahra (as), this means he is saying, "O people who all sat down and did not help Lady Fatimah (as), why didn't any of you stand up and help?!” In one sense, Fatimiyah and Ashura were the Immaculate Ones’ uprising and protesting to people's crimes - to the crime of silence, to the crime of leaving Fatimah (as) and Husayn (as) alone. Fatimiyah means "bringing people to the right path," even if it's with a broken rib. Zaynabiyah means calling out to the people with a dusty cloak.
If there had been a few people crying out like Fatimah (as) in Madinah, Karbala would not have taken place.

◾️Cast away your fear of society. Although God takes into consideration each person’s capacity, try to look up to your mother, Lady Zahra (as), and become like her. Don't just sit back! This mother with a broken, bruised side was knocking on the door of this and that house for 40 days and nights, even though she knew they would not help, even though she knew some would mock her and even though she knew some would not even open the door. But she wasn’t worried about her reputation. Not a single person rose up to help her, but she continued. Until the 40th day, she continued knocking on the doors of all the houses and she did not give up.
