A chilling video is currently wrenching out the heart of all those who are watching it as it features the toddler crying over the dead body of his grandfather.

Leaving Twitter crushed, the video shows the
boy heartbreakingly weeping in the J&K Police
van while some officers tried to offer him
biscuits and chocolates.

A 65-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday morning in the northern district of India-administered Occupied Kashmir. The victim, identified by local media as Bashir Ahmed Khan, was accompanied by a 3-year-old boy, who was seen sitting on his co**se, dazed and completely traumatised.

The incident echoes the killing of 12-year-old Palestinian child Muhammad al Durra in September 2000, whose father, Jamal al Durra, tried his best to shield him from Israeli gunfire, taking several injuries. The boy's killers were never brought to justice but the photograph of young Durra screaming behind his father remained etched in the memory of almost every Palestinian.

According to Ahmed’s family, he was on his way to Handwara, just over 20 km from Sopore, when the exchange of fire began.

“We received a call, telling us someone has killed your uncle on the road. Then we went to the spot and asked some people present there what happened. They told us that the security forces had a tussle with the freedom fighters and, in that process, they lost numerous persons,” said Farooq Ahmed Khan, Ahmed’s nephew.

“To take revenge, they took my uncle out of his car, while his grandson was in his lap, and they shot at him in the back. He was dead on the spot. Local residents watched the scene through their windows.”

Khan’s wife, who earlier worked with the police, alleged that the security forces then placed the minor on Ahmed’s lifeless body, “clicked pictures for a PR stunt and then claimed they had rescued the child”.

Another relative, Tanveer Ahmed, said Ahmed was on his way to Handwara to bring back the family help. “The grandson was extremely attached to Khan sahab, to the extent that his mother had left him with his grandparents. All day he would follow Khan sahab… Today, when Khan sahab left for Handwara, the child wanted to accompany him. Little did we know this would be the last time he saw his grandfather’s face. We are devastated,” he added.

Ahmed’s widow Farooqa Khan was disconsolate. “They ended our world, what can we say? The military personnel took him out of the car and shot him. Is this Modi’s justice? Is this our freedom?” she said.

Feel the pain of Kashmiries. He was not a terrorist. Question is what he will teach in the future?

Coronavirus is threatening to wipe Yemen from maps all over the world.

An estimated 2 million children are acutely malnourished, including almost 360,000 children under five years old who are struggling to survive.

With only half of the country's 3,500 medical facilities fully functioning, almost 20 million people lack access to adequate healthcare. And almost 18 million do not have enough clean water or access to adequate sanitation.

Consequently, medics have struggled to deal with the largest cholera outbreak ever recorded, which has resulted in more than 2.2 million suspected cases.

Campaigners have criticised the UN for removing the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen from a list of groups violating children's rights, adding that the coalition had been responsible for the death or injury of 222 children last year.

Trump threatens to call in troops but unrest goes on.

Protests erupted for a seventh day across the US over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

One former officer who was seen with his knee on Floyd's neck was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter — but protesters say the charge doesn't go far enough, and are demanding charges for the other officers involved.

At least 40 cities imposed curfews and National Guard members have been activated in at least 23 states and Washington, DC.

In the capital, police fired tear gas to clear peaceful protesters near the White House, shortly before President Trump walked to a nearby church and took a photo.

An independent autopsy found Floyd died from "asphyxiation from sustained pressure," while the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found "no physical findings" to "support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation."

Been away for a month and here's a visual glance at the changes the world has gone through under the COVID-19 crisis.
[Source : BBC]

The coronavirus outbreak, which was first detected in China, has infected people in 185 countries. Its spread has left businesses around the world counting the costs.

1) Global shares take a hit.

Investors fear the spread of the coronavirus will destroy economic growth and that government action may not be enough to stop the decline.

2) More people seeking work.

The number of people filing for unemployment hit a record high.

Close to one million people in the United Kingdom applied for benefits in just two weeks at the end of March.

3) Oil prices crash.

Brent crude is the benchmark used by Europe and the rest of the world. Its price dipped below $20, to the lowest level seen in 18 years.

In the United States, the price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) turned negative for the first time in history.

4) Risk of recession.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says that the global economy will shrink by 3% this year.

The IMF described the decline as the worst since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

5) Travel among hardest hit.

The travel industry has been badly damaged, with airlines cutting flights and customers cancelling business trips and holidays.

6) The effects of lockdowns are visible.

As many countries and world capitals have been put under strict lockdown, major industrial production chains have been brought to a halt. The images clearly show how a strong reduction in emission is now in place over major cities.

** And the list goes so on. Lets pray together and hiopefully we'll make it through.

Coronavirus: Why Pakistan's doctors are so angry.

The image of President Dr Arif Alvi wearing the high-end N-95 medical mask - tweeted out on social media - has further inflamed tensions between Pakistan's government and those on the front line of the fight against coronavirus.

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) noted that while "politicians and bureaucrats are often seen wearing N-95 masks during meetings and visits… health professionals are facing a dire shortage of (these masks) and PPE (personal protective equipment)".

Indeed, while many countries around the world regularly take to the streets to applaud their health workers during the crisis, doctors in one city - where almost 25 medical officials have already tested positive - were beaten by the police, for daring to protest over the lack of PPE.

Dr Alvi has since explained that he was given this mask in China during a recent visit and had been re-using it until its straps broke. He is now using a common face mask.

But doctors are still not happy.

PPE shortages have been in the headlines ever since the coronavirus pandemic struck early last month, mainly because it was an unprecedented situation and the magnitude of demand could not have been foreseen.

For the 200,000 or so practising doctors in Pakistan, the outbreak came just six months after they were stunned by a controversial government decision to close the country's top health professionals' regulatory body, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

That decision left 15,000 fresh medical graduates without certification, while around 30,000 doctors still await their routine five-year registration renewal which is necessary for them to continue to practise medicine in Pakistan and abroad, a source in the PMDC said.

The near absence of protective gear triggered unrest among this already strained community, with doctors all over the country resorting to brief protests and strikes.

At least 17 doctors and five paramedics in Quetta have so far tested positive for Covid-19. Even more worryingly, none of Quetta's infected health workers were involved in directly handling coronavirus patients, Dr Khan said.

It is not the only affected province: according to the YDA, 16 medics are infected in KP, and there are reports that two doctors have died in Gilgit-Baltistan region and Karachi.

Coronavirus: 'Heroic city' Wuhan ends lockdown with spectacular party 11 weeks after it was epicentre of crisis.

China has ended coronavirus lockdown measures in Wuhan - 11 weeks after it became the epicentre of what has since developed into a global crisis.

Authorities have begun allowing its 11 million residents to travel in and out of the sprawling city where the pandemic began without special authorisation.

Under new rules that came into force as of midnight on Wednesday, people are allowed to enter and leave on the condition a mandatory smartphone application powered by a mix of data-tracking and government surveillance shows they are healthy and have not been in recent contact with anyone infected.

A light show on either side of the Yangtze river marked the occasion, with skyscrapers and bridges radiating animated images of health workers healing patients.

One bears the words "heroic city", a title bestowed on Wuhan by president and Communist Party leader Xi Jinping.
Along the embankments and bridges, people waved flags, chanted "Wuhan, let's go!" and sang capella renditions of China's national anthem.

"I haven't been outside for more than 70 days," said an emotional Tong Zhengkun, who was watching the display from a bridge.

Coronavirus: Lockdown tightens in parts of Italy hardest hit by COVID-19.

Doctors and nurses are heading to Italy from Cuba to help as the region of Lombardy tightens restrictions on its residents.

Lockdown in the Italian region of Lombardy has been tightened as the country confirmed more than 53,500 cases of coronavirus.
Sports and other physical activities outside have been banned, even if a person is exercising alone, and using vending machines is also forbidden.

The number of people in Italy to have died from the disease is approaching 5,000, just days after it overtook China as the nation to register most deaths from the highly contagious respiratory illness.

Officials said a further 739 coronavirus patients have died in a single day, taking the total number to 4,825.

The increase of 19.6% was by far the biggest daily rise since the outbreak emerged in the country a month ago.

The rise in the number of infections from 47,021 to 53,578 is an increase of 13.9%, the Civil Protection Agency said.

A team of 65 Cuban doctors and nurses with experience in battling Ebola will arrive in the hard-hit Lombardy town of Cremona on Sunday ready to help.

The number of deaths from coronavirus in Italy has risen to 1,266 - an increase of 250 in a day, officials say.

The 25% hike is the largest rise in absolute terms since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, Italy's Civil Protection Agency has said.

The total number of cases in the country, the worst hit in Europe, has gone up by 17%, from 15,113 to 17,660.

Nearly 300 million kids are missing class.

The coronavirus epidemic reached deeper into daily life across the world on Wednesday, with a sweeping shutdown of all schools in Italy and warnings of school closings in the US, intensifying the educational upheaval of nearly 300 million students globally.

Only a few weeks ago, China, where the outbreak began, was the only country to suspend classes. But the virus has spread so quickly that by Wednesday, 22 countries on three continents had announced school closings of varying degrees, leading the UN to warn that “the global scale and speed of the current educational disruption is unparalleled.”
Students are now out of school in South Korea, Iran, Japan, France, Pakistan, the US and elsewhere — some for only a few days, others for weeks on end. In Italy, officials said on Wednesday that they would extend school closings beyond the north, where the government has imposed a lockdown on several towns, to the entire nation. All schools and varsities will remain closed until March 15, officials said.

The speed and scale of the educational tumult — which now affects 290.5 million students worldwide, the UN says — has little parallel in modern history, educators and economists contend. In some countries, older students have missed crucial study sessions for college admissions exams, while younger ones have risked falling behind in reading and math.

Parents have lost wages, tried to work at home or scrambled to find child care. Some have moved children to new schools in areas unaffected by the coronavirus and lost milestones like graduation ceremonies or last days of school.

US-Taliban set to sign troop withdrawal deal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Qatar's capital city, Doha on Saturday to witness the signing of a historic deal with Taliban insurgents in an effort to end the 18-year war in Afghanistan.

The deal paves the way for the United States to gradually withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. But there are doubts over whether it will lead to a lasting peace as it merely paves the way for talks between the Afghan sides that many expect could be much more complicated.

Hours before the deal, the Taliban ordered all its fighters in Afghanistan "to refrain from any kind of attack ... for the happiness of the nation."

The US and its Nato allies will withdraw all their troops from Afghanistan in 14 months if the Taliban uphold their commitments under a deal to be signed shortly, officials say.

More than 2,400 US troops have been killed during the conflict. About 12,000 are still stationed in the country.

Delhi riots: City tense after Hindu-Muslim clashes leave 23 dead.

The clashes first broke out on Sunday between protesters for and against a controversial citizenship law.

But they have since taken on communal overtones, with reports of many Muslims being attacked.

Photographs, videos and accounts on social media paint a chilling image of the last few days - of mostly Hindu mobs beating unarmed men, including journalists; of groups of men with sticks, iron rods and stones wandering the streets; and of Hindus and Muslims facing off.

Access to these areas was severely restricted on Tuesday, when most of the violence took place. Judging by the names released so far, both Muslims and Hindus are among the dead and injured.

The Delhi High Court, which is hearing petitions about the violence, has said it cannot let "another 1984" happen on its "watch". In 1984, more than 3,000 Sikhs were killed in anti-Sikh riots in the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Wednesday, three days after the violence broke out, appealing for peace. He added that he had reviewed the situation and police were working to restore normalcy.

Opposition leader Sonia Gandhi has called for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, saying he is "responsible" for the violence.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has described the situation as "alarming" and demanded for the army to be called in.

Delhi remains on edge after a third consecutive night of rioting, with reports of Muslim homes and shops being targeted by violent mobs.
Twenty-three people have been killed so far in the deadliest violence the Indian capital has seen in decades.

The unrest is centred around Muslim-majority neighbourhoods - such as Maujpur, Mustafabad, Jaffrabad and Shiv Vihar - in north-east Delhi.

The streets in these areas are littered with stones and shattered glass, broken and burnt vehicles are strewn about, and the stench of smoke from smouldering buildings fills the air.

Abdullah says he tries to stay controlled and appear happy when air strikes are happening so his daughter can feel calm and happy too.

Niger aid stampede: At least 20 killed in Diffa.

Refugees from neighbouring Nigeria were queuing for food and money in the town of Diffa when the incident took place, according to local sources.

Ten other people were injured.

The region is home to around 120,000 people displaced by years of violence carried out by Boko Haram militants in north-eastern Nigeria.

People rushed forward to collect aid supplies when the gates of the facility were opened early on Monday.

The aid was provided by the governor of Nigeria's Borno state who was visiting refugee camps in the area, according to AFP news agency.

Militant Islamist group Boko Haram and its offshoots have waged a brutal insurgency in Nigeria since 2009.

Coronavirus death toll in China crosses 1,000.

The death toll in China climbed above 1,000, as the World Health Organization (WHO) cautioned that the spread of cases outside of China could be "the spark that becomes a bigger fire" and said the human race must not let the epidemic get out of control.

As scientists race to develop tests and treatments, the WHO says 168 labs globally have the right technology to diagnose the virus. Companies have been struggling to find clinical virus samples needed to validate the diagnostic tests they have developed.

Hubei province, the epicentre out the outbreak, reported 103 deaths on Monday - the most in any single day - after 91 deaths on Sunday. But the 2,097 new cases was down from the previous day, when there were 2,618.

Worries about the coronavirus kept investors on edge with safe-havens like gold rising and the dollar hitting a four-month high against the euro on Monday.

In Europe, shares in car companies .SXAP exposed to China slumped, while prices of oil, iron ore and copper fell on worries over weaker Chinese demand because of the outbreak.
Wall Street rose on optimism for corporate earnings and the economy, with the Nasdaq hitting a record high.

CONTENT WARNING: Three families killed by a single rocket: The cost of Syria military push.

A top UN official on the Turkey-Syria border has warned that a catastrophe unparalleled in the decade-long Syrian war is unfolding.

On the roads out of both the cities of Aleppo and Idlib, convoys of families have been pushing forward for days now.

Ahead of them, the border with Turkey is closed. The Syrian government army is closing in from behind and their Russian allies are in the sky.

These are the last pockets of land that President Assad's army has not yet retaken. As they push forward at any cost, it seems, the UN is warning of death and displacement not yet seen in this horrific war.

To the south of Idlib, in Saraqib, we filmed Abu Ahmad, his wife, three sons and two daughters preparing to leave their home.

A pick-up is packed with as many belongings as possible.

In the town of Ariha, south of Idlib, the hospital is destroyed and abandoned after it was hit two weeks ago.

It is the place where so many, already injured, should be receiving treatment.

Asked about the international response to this latest Syrian crisis, Mr Cutts said: "This is what is so shocking about this crisis. Who is going to protect these people?

"They are looking to the world for support. They are looking to the security council. They are dumbfounded that the world is not doing more."

Trump celebrates impeachment acquittal and blasts rivals.

"I've done things wrong in my life, I will admit... but this is what the end result is," he said as he held up a newspaper headlined "Trump acquitted".

"We went through hell, unfairly. We did nothing wrong," he said at the White House. "It was evil, it was corrupt."

He earlier criticised impeachment foes who invoked their religious faith.

"Now we have that gorgeous word. I never thought it would sound so good," Mr Trump said from the East Room, which was crammed with supporters and cabinet officials.
"It's called 'total acquittal'."

Mr Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, but was acquitted on Wednesday after a two-week trial in the Republican-controlled Senate, which did not include any witnesses.

Mr Trump also used a swear word to describe the justice department inquiry into whether his 2016 election campaign had colluded with the Kremlin.

"It was all bu****it," he said. "This should never happen to another president ever."

In a 52-48 vote, the Senate found Trump not guilty of abusing his power of office. The Senate voted 53-47 to acquit the president on the charge of obstruction of Congress.

On the first charge, one Republican, Senator Mitt Romney, broke rank and joined all Democrats in voting to convict Trump of abuse of power. But the vote fell well short of the two-thirds majority needed to remove a president. Romney voted with his party on the obstruction of Congress charge.

Trump is only the third US president ever to face a Senate trial. No president has ever been removed from office in an impeachment proceeding.

Turkey avalanche disaster death toll grows to 40, search efforts resume for missing.

Rescue workers in Turkey scanned an avalanche field on Thursday for a final missing person after two avalanches killed dozens in the eastern part of the country.

The private Turkish news agency DHS reported two more bodies were recovered Thursday, bringing the death toll from the two avalanches to at least 40.

Some 300 emergency service workers were originally called to a highway near the mountain-surrounded town of Bahcesaray in Van province, which borders Iran, after an avalanche struck late Tuesday, killing five people and burying two others. The group was then hit by a second avalanche.

Osman Ucar, the head of Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Authority office, was hospitalized after being caught in the avalanche, Reuters reported. He told Ihlas News Agency from the hospital that many were out of the immediate area when the second avalanche hit on Wednesday.

The emergency rescue operation continued Thursday after inspections over concerns of a possible third avalanche, the BBC reported. Turkish news agencies reported officials were still searching for a final missing person.

Daniel arap Moi: Kenya's longest-serving leader dies aged 95.

The former president led the East African country for nearly a quarter of a century.

The ex-president died peacefully in hospital at 5.20 am on Tuesday surrounded by his family, said his son Gideon Moi.

A cattle herder's son and former headmaster from a small tribe, he ruled the East African nation from 1978 to 2002.

While he brought stability that was the envy of many other countries emerging from colonialism, he failed to tackle rampant corruption and widespread poverty.

He worked for regional peace and eventually introduced political pluralism, but his time also saw the country descend towards dictatorship and alleged political killings.

Brexit at last: Britain leaves the EU as champagne corks fly.

The United Kingdom finally cast off from the European Union on Friday for an uncertain future, with Brexiteers claiming victory and popping champagne corks for an "independence day" they said marked a new era for the country.

In its biggest shift since losing its global empire, the United Kingdom slipped away at 2300 GMT, turning its back after 47 years on the post-World War Two project that sought to build the ruined nations of Europe into a global power.

Besides the British parliament, flag-waving Brexit supporters cheered, revelling in a mix of nostalgia, patriotism and defiance. Some sang "God Save the Queen", while others hugged amid the smoke of fireworks.

Once considered the unlikely dream of a motley crew of "eurosceptics" on the fringes of British politics, Brexit also weakens the EU, conceived as a way to bind together Europe's major powers in peace after centuries of conflict.

When the exit day finally came, after 3-1/2 years of wrangling since the 2016 referendum, it was an anticlimax of sorts: while Brexiteers waving flags toasted freedom in the rain, many Britons showed indifference or relief.

The EU's most powerful leaders, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron cast Brexit as a sad moment that was a turning point for Europe. The EU warned that leaving would be worse than staying.

US President Donald Trump has long supported Brexit. At EU headquarters in Brussels, the British flag was lowered. Little will change immediately, however, as a transition period keeps the United Kingdom as a member in all but name until the end of 2020.

UNCERTAIN FUTURE?

Opponents say Brexit is a folly that will weaken the West, torpedo what is left of Britain's global clout, undermine its economy and ultimately leave it a less cosmopolitan set of islands.

Johnson has promised to strike a broad free trade agreement with the EU, the world's biggest trading bloc, though Merkel and Macron have warned that leaving will be harder than staying.

But Brexit was always about much more than Europe. The referendum exposed deep internal divisions and triggered soul-searching about everything from immigration to empire and modern Britishness.

Australia fires: State of emergency declared for Canberra region.

Authorities in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) have declared a state of emergency as massive bushfires rage south of Canberra.

The main blaze, in the territory's south, is burning over more than 18,500 hectares.
Residents in suburbs of Canberra have been urged to "remain alert" for potential evacuations.

The small territory, located between Sydney and Melbourne, has about 400,000 residents.

In 2003, bushfires in the suburbs of Canberra killed four people, injured another 500 and destroyed or damaged 470 homes.

Similar weather conditions were being recorded on Friday, authorities said.

Fires have raged near the city for weeks. Last Thursday, Canberra's airport was shut down when a blaze threatened to breach its perimeter.

Three US firefighters died on the same day after their aircraft crashed over a fire zone near the city, in the Snowy Mountains region.

Earlier this week, photos of bushfires in the area turning skies red were shared widely on social media.

It prompted authorities to issue warnings against "disaster tourism", following several reports of people driving near active fire zones to take pictures.

Since September, bushfires in Australia have killed at least 33 people and destroyed thousands of homes. More than 11 million hectares of land has been scorched.
