دمشق کا معروف و مشہور تاجر رات کے پچھلے پہر سڑکوں پہ ٹہل رہا تھا۔ موسم خوشگوار ہونے کے باوجود اس کا دم گھٹا جا رہا تھا۔
ڈاکٹروں کے مطابق اس کے پاس ہفتہ یا دس دن سے زیادہ ٹائم نہیں تھا۔ دنیا کی ہر آسائش کے ہوتے ہوئے بے بسی کا یہ عالم تھا کہ ٹائم سے ‏پہلے ہی سب کچھ ختم ہوتا محسوس ہو رہا تھا۔ ملک کے ڈاکٹروں نے جواب دے دیا تھا۔ ایک ننھی سی امید تھی کہ امریکا میں علاج ہو سکتا ہے وہ بھی دم توڑ گئی۔ جب وہاں کئی مہینے ٹیسٹ وغیرہ کروانے کے بعد سینئر ترین ڈاکٹر نے آخر کار ایک دن آ کر نرمی سے سمجھایا کہ آپ کے پاس زیادہ ٹائم نہیں ہے ۔ ‏لہٰذا میرا مشورہ ہے اور عقل مندی یہی ہو گی کہ باقی کا قیمتی ٹائم آپ اپنے بیوی بچوں کے ساتھ گزاریں-

رات کے اس پہر بے خبری کے عالم میں نہ جانے کتنی دیر ٹہلتا رہا۔ اس کی سوچوں کا تسلسل تب ٹوٹا جب ٹہلتے ٹہلتے وہ ایک تنگ سے بے رونق پل پر پہنچ چکا تھا۔
‏سڑک پار دوسری طرف سٹریٹ لائٹ کے نیچے ایک خاتون کھڑی کسی آدمی سے گفتگو کر رہی تھی۔ تیس سال کے لگ بھگ خاتون کا انداز منت سماجت والا تھا، جبکہ بندہ کوئی اوباش قسم کا تھا جو کہ اس کی بات نہیں مان رہا تھا۔ اس کے چلنے کی رفتار خود بخود آہستہ ہو گئی، کانوں میں جب آواز پہنچنا ‏شروع ہوئی تو خاتون کہہ رہی تھی:
خدا کے لئے مجھے اتنے پیسوں کی ضرورت ہے، بچے بھوکے ہیں، میں تمہارے ساتھ چلنے کے لئے تیار ہوں۔

جبکہ وہ اوباش قسم کا بندہ اس خاتون کی (قیمت) آدھی سے بھی کم دینا چاہ رہا تھا اور یہ کہ تمہاری اس سے بھی کم قیمت بنتی ہے بول رہا تھا۔ پھر وہ ‏کندھے اُچکاتا ہوا چل پڑا اور خاتون حسرت کی تصویر بنی کھڑی رہ گئی-

وہ تھوڑا آگے جا کر مُڑا اور خاتون کی طرف چل دیا۔ اسے نزدیک آتا دیکھ کر خاتون چوکنی ہو گئی۔ اُمید بھری نظروں سے قریب آتے کو دیکھنے لگی۔ نزدیک پہنچنے سے پہلے خاتون آگے بڑھی اس کا انداز ایسا تھا کہ جیسے اپنے آپ سے ‏زبردستی کر رہی ہو ۔ اس نے قریب پہنچ کر سلام کیا۔ خاتون نے مصنوعی مسکراہٹ کے ساتھ جواب دیا اور ٹٹولتی نظروں سے دیکھا اور تھوڑا قریب ہوتے ہوئے معنی خیز انداز بنا کر پوچھا کیا موڈ ہے؟
وہ پیچھے ہٹا اور نرمی سے کہا، نہیں ایسی کوئی بات نہیں ہے۔ دراصل میں نے ابھی گزرتے ہوئے تمہاری ‏اس آدمی کے ساتھ تھوڑی سی گفتگو سنی ہے۔ مجھے بتاؤ میری بہن تمہارا کیا مسئلہ ہے؟
اس طرح پوچھنا تھا کہ خاتون جو کہ مضبوط دکھائی دینے کی کوشش کر رہی تھی یکدم روہانسی ہو گئی بولی:
”بھائی قسم ہے اس ذات کی جو ہماری گفتگو سن رہا ہے، میں اس ٹائپ کی عورت نہیں ہوں جو اس وقت گھر سے نکل کر ‏سڑک پہ کسی کا انتظار کرے ۔ مگر میں بہت مجبوری کے عالم میں اس وقت اس جگہ پہ ہوں۔”

اسے لگا کسی نے اس کا دل مٹھی میں لے لیا ہو۔ اس نے مزید نرمی سے کہا دلوں کا حال تو اللّٰـــہ جانتا ہی ہے بہن، مجھے بتاؤ کیا بات ہے؟ بولی:
”میں ایک بیوہ عورت ہوں میرے چھوٹے چھوٹے بچے ہیں شوہر کو فوت ہوئے ۔ سال ہونے کو ہے۔ شروع میں تو پڑوسی، رشتےدار کچھ مدد وغیرہ کر دیتے تھے، پھر آہستہ آہستہ سب نے ہاتھ کھینچ لیا۔ گھر میں راشن نام کی کوئی چیز نہیں ہے۔ کرائے دار کا صبر بھی ختم ہو گیا ہے، اس نے کل شام تک کی آخری مہلت دی ہے۔ اگر کرایہ نہ دیا تو سامان سمیت گھر سے نکال دے گا ۔ میرے پاس اب اور کوئی چارہ نہیں رہا سوائے کہ اپنے آپ کو ۔۔۔“

یہ کہتے ہوئے اس کی آواز بیٹھ گئی۔ اس نے بھی جلدی سے دوسری طرف مڑ کر بہانے سے اپنے آنسو صاف کئے۔ پھر مڑ کر جلدی سے بولا، بس بس ٹھیک ہے بہن کوئی بات نہیں اور اپنی جیبوں میں ہاتھ ڈالے تو پتہ چلا کہ جیبوں میں جو رقم ہے، ‏وہ نہ ہونے کے برابر ہے۔ کیونکہ جس عالم میں وہ نکلا تھا اسے تو ہوش ہی نہیں تھا، اس نے خاتون سے کہا فی الحال یہ رکھو اور مجھے اپنا ایڈریس بتاؤ فکر کرنے کی کوئی ضرورت نہیں ہے، اپنے گھر جاؤ ان شاء اللّٰہ سب ٹھیک ہو جائے گا۔ خاتون بے یقینی کے انداز میں اس کی طرف دیکھ رہی تھی ۔۔۔
‏جیسے سوچ رہی ہو کہ اس پہ بھروسہ کرے کہ نا کرے
اس نے پھر سے یقین دھانی کرائی کہ تم جاؤ اور ایڈریس بتا دو بس۔ اس نے آخر کار ایڈریس بتا دیا اور پھر ایک طرف کو چل پڑی۔
تھوڑی دیر تک خاتون کو جاتا دیکھنے کے بعد وہ مڑا اور واپسی کی طرف تیزی سے قدم اٹھانے لگا۔
‏گھر پہنچ کر اس نے کافی مقدار میں نقدی لی اور ڈرائیور کو بڑی وین نکالنے کو کہا پھر خود ڈرائیو کرتے ہوئے شہر کے چوبیس گھنٹے کھلے رہنے والے سٹور سے راشن کی بڑی مقدار وین میں بھری اور خاتون کے بتائے ہوئے ایڈریس پہ پہنچ کر سارا راشن اس کے گھر اتارا باقی کی رقم خاتون کو دی اور کہا ۔۔۔
‏صبح کرائے دار سے وہ خود بات کر لے گا اور کرائے کا معاملہ نمٹا دے گا اور ان شاء اللّٰہ ہر مہینے مخصوص رقم آپ تک پہنچا دی جائے گی۔ یہ کہہ کر جلدی سے بنا کچھ کہے سنے واپس مڑ گیا۔ خاتون بُت بنى بے یقینی کے عالم میں کھڑی آنسؤوں بھری نگاہوں سے دیکھتی رہ گئی اور وہ وین سمیت نظروں سے اوجھل ہو گیا۔

‏اس کی کیفیت اب کافی بلکہ بہت مختلف تھی، اس کے انگ انگ سے خوشی پھوٹ رہی تھی۔ کچھ گھنٹوں پہلے جو اس کی حالت تھی وہ اب یکسر بدل گئی تھی۔ اب اسے ہفتہ دس دن گزارنے کی جو فکر تھی وہ تھوڑی کم ہو گئی تھی۔ ہفتہ دس دنوں کا خیال آتے ہی اس نے کاغذ قلم لے کر خاتون کا ایڈریس لکھ کر وصیت لکھی ‏کہ ہر ماہ باقاعدگی سے چار لوگوں کے معقول سے بڑھ کر خرچے کی رقم اس ایڈریس پہ بھجوائی جائے۔ اور کاغذ کو لفافے میں بند کر کے تجوری میں رکھ دیا۔

اب اسے لگ رہا تھا کہ اپنے آخری سفر کے لئے وہ تیار ہے یا تھوڑی بہت تیاری کر لی ہے۔ پھر ہفتہ گزر گیا اور دس دن گزر گئے۔ پھر مزید دس اور پورے پندرہ دن گزر گئے۔ گھر والوں کے کہنے کے باوجود وہ ہسپتال نہیں گیا اور پھر پورا ایک مہینہ گزر گیا اور اگلے مہینے کی رقم بھی اس نے فوراً بھجوا دی۔
پھر ایسے ایک ایک مہینہ کرتے پورا سال گزر گیا اور وہ معمول کے مطابق رقم بھجواتا رہا۔ پھر پانچ سال، پھر دس سال گزر گئے اور پھر پورے بیس سال گزر جانے کے بعد ایک رات وہ معمول کے مطابق تہجد کے لئے اٹھا، وضو کر کے تہجد شروع کی اور سجدے میں دعا کرتے کرتے اس کی سانسیں ختم ہو گئیں ۔ وہ اس جہانِ فانی سے سجدے کی حالت میں رخصت ہو گیا۔

یہ سچا واقعہ یہاں ختم نہیں ہوتا اصل خلاصہ تو اب آنا ہے ۔
گھر والے جب صبح اٹھے تو اس کو سجدے کی حالت میں مردہ پایا۔ افسوس کے ساتھ ساتھ گھر والوں کو اس بات کی خوشی سی بھی تھی کہ اچھی اور مبارک موت ہوئی ہے۔
خیر تکفین و تدفین اور دیگر انتظامات کے بعد اولاد کا تجوری اور وصیت کھولنے کا وقت آیا تو وہ بند لفافہ بھی نکل آیا جو کم از کم بیس سال پہلے کی تاریخ کا ان کے والد ‏کے ہاتھ کا لکھا ہوا تھا اور اس کا مطلب تھا اس لکھے گئے ایڈریس پہ بیس سال سے رقم دی جاتی رہی ہے۔ لفافہ پڑھنے کے بعد ان کو پتہ چلا کہ والد صاحب کو فوت ہوئے سات دن ہو گئے ہیں جو کہ تکفین و تدفین اور رشتے دار لوگوں کے ملنے ملانے میں نکل گئے ہیں اور وصیت کے مطابق رقم کی ادائیگی سات دن لیٹ ہو گئی ہے۔

رقم لے کر وہ لوگ اس ایڈریس پر پہنچے تو دروازہ کھٹکھٹانے پر خاتون باہر آئی جو کہ اب پچاس سے اوپر کی ہو چکی تھی۔ سلام دعا کے بعد تاجر کے بڑے لڑکے نے خاتون سے مؤدب انداز میں کہا کہ ہم آپ کو والد صاحب کی طرف سے جو ماہانہ مخصوص رقم ہے وہ دینے آئے ہیں اور معذرت چاہتے ہیں کہ رقم کی ادائیگی سات دن لیٹ ہو گئی وہ اصل میں۔۔۔
خاتون جلدی سے بولی، ارے نہیں نہیں کوئی بات نہیں آپ کے والد صاحب کے ہم پر بہت احسانات ہیں۔ آپ لوگ میری طرف سے والد صاحب کو بہت بہت شکریہ بولئے گا اور اور انہیں بتائیے گا کہ ہم ہمیشہ انہیں دعاؤں میں یاد ‏رکھتے ہیں اور رکھیں گے، اور میری طرف سے آداب کے ساتھ انہیں بتائیے گا کہ اب انہیں رقم بھیجنے کی ضرورت نہیں ہے۔
بیٹا حیرانگی سے بولا کیوں؟ اب کیوں نہیں ہے ضرورت رقم کی؟
‏خاتون نے خوشی کے آنسووں میں ملی آواز میں جواب دیا، اللّٰـــہ کے فضل سے مہینہ پہلے میرے بڑے بیٹے کی ملازمت لگی تھی اور سات دن پہلے ہی بیٹے اس کو اس کی پہلی تنخواہ ملی ہے ۔
خاتون روانی میں پتہ نہیں کیا کیا بولے چلے جا رہی تھی جب کہ لڑکوں کے کانوں میں خاتون کا یہی جملہ اٹک کر رہ گیا،
”سات دن پہلے ہی میرے بیٹے کو اس کی پہلی تنخواہ ملی ہے۔“
”سات دن پہلے ہی میرے بیٹے کو اس کی پہلی تنخواہ ملی ہے۔“
