MACTAN AIRPORT OPENS SECOND RUNWAY

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority said it officially opened its second runway today, with flight 7C2177 arriving from Incheon and flight 5J 5108 departing for Kansai.

The opening of this parallel runway is expected to “significantly improve” airside capacity, reduce aircraft holding times, and support future growth in passenger and cargo traffic, airport management said.

The parallel runway has a total length of 2,560 meters, a new perpendicular taxiway length of 237 meters with 23 meters in taxiway width. It will be used when the main runway is closed during emergencies, runway closures, maintenance, etc.

VIVANT’S MACTAN DESALINATION PLANT UNDERGOING TESTING

Vivant Corporation said its desalination plant on Mactan Island is undergoing testing and commissioning, and is expected to begin commercial operations in the second half of this year.

Under a 25-year agreement signed with the Metropolitan Cebu Water
District in April, the facility will supply up to 20,000 cu.m. per day of treated and potable water.

The facility is being developed by Isla Mactan-Cordova Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivant Hydrocore Holdings Inc.

Aboitiz Construction, Inc. said it has started providing integrated facilities management (IFM) services at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Its 5-year contract covers the operations and maintenance of key airport systems, including the baggage handling system, passenger boarding bridge, and the visual docking guidance system, Aboitiz Construction said.

CEBU AIR SIGNS DEALS WITH PRATT & WHITNEY, LUFTHANSA SYSTEMS

Cebu Pacific Air operator Cebu Air, Inc. said it signed agreements with RTX's Pratt & Whitney and Lufthansa Systems for long-term engine maintenance, and for operations control and crew management services, respectively.

The airline said the 12-year Pratt & Whitney deal is for EngineWise comprehensive maintenance services for the Cebu Pacific GTF engine fleet. Cebu Pacific Air currently operates 56 Pratt & Whitney powered aircraft.

At the Paris Air Show, Cebu Air said it signed a deal with Lufthansa Systems for the deployment beginning this year of Lufthansa's NetLine suite for flight operations, crew planning, rostering, and real-time disruption management.

BOHOL-PANGLAO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT NOW UNDER ABOITIZ INFRACAPITAL

Aboitiz InfraCapital, infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, said it officially took over operations and management of the Bohol Panglao International Airport on Monday, June 16.

The company said it will implement a series of upgrades under a ₱4.53 billion public-private partnership program to expand the passenger terminal building, modernize landside and airside facilities, and install new systems and equipment.

MYNT APPROVES STOCK SPLIT

GCash operator Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc. (Mynt) has approved a proposed stock split that would increase its authorized common shares to about 71.66 billion from around 2.15 billion currently and lower the par value to ₱0.03 from ₱1.00, Ayala Corporation and Globe Telecom said in separate disclosures.

Globe Fintech is an affiliate of Ayala, Globe Telecom and Ant Group.

The stock split would take effect upon approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

A stock split makes a stock cheaper and more attractive to investors. It is considered a positive development and suggests management confidence in future growth.

HOTEL101 OBTAINS APPROVAL FOR NASDAQ LISTING

DoubleDragon's subsidiary Hotel101 Global Holdings, Inc. is set to become the first Filipino-owned company to be listed and traded on Nasdaq.

The company and Nasdaq-listed shell company JVSPAC Acquisition Corp. said they received approval for their prospective combined company to offer and sell securities on Nasdaq.

Closing of the merger is expected this month, with the combined company anticipated to operate as Hotel101 and its stock to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "HBNB."

ROBINSONS RETAIL BUYS BACK SHARES

Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. said it has repurchased about 315.3 million of its common shares from DFI Retail subsidiary GCH Investments for ₱50 per share, or a total of approximately ₱15.77 billion. The re-acquired shares represent 22.2% of its outstanding shares, RRHI said.

The transaction via a special block sale was funded through a combination of internal funds and external loans, the company said.

PAL FORMALIZES LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

PAL Holdings, Inc. subsidiary Philippine Airlines said it has formally appointed Richard Nuttall as president and Carlos Luis Fernandez as chief operating officer and executive vice president.

The airline is expanding its fleet, with an Airbus A350-1000 long-range aircraft scheduled for delivery by the end of this year. The company had ordered eight more Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
