To celebrate the artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) leads the celebration of 2024 National Arts Month (NAM) by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 683, signed in 1991.

This year’s National Arts Month celebration aims to harness the creative energies of artists towards nation-building, integrate the arts into the lives of diverse populations and communities (LGBTQIA+, PWD, IP, Youth, Senior, etc.), and engage critical discourse, awareness, and appreciation of various arts and art disciplines through different emerging platforms.

February is National Arts Month!

To celebrate the artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) leads the celebration of 2024 National Arts Month (NAM) by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 683, signed in 1991.

This year’s National Arts Month celebration aims to harness the creative energies of artists towards nation-building, integrate the arts into the lives of diverse populations and communities (LGBTQIA+, PWD, IP, Youth, Senior, etc.), and engage critical discourse, awareness, and appreciation of various arts and art disciplines through different emerging platforms.

Bearing the theme “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain”, 2024 NAM seeks to encapsulate the notion that the bountiful harvest of a Filipino creative nation is drawn from the products of human imagination, not just of individuals but of people as a collective. A creative nation, Bayang Malikhain, embodies the idea of a Filipino society that places a high value on imagination, innovation, and artistic expression as integral components of our identity and progress. In a Bayang Malikhain, artistic endeavors are celebrated as essential contributions to the nation's development and cultural richness.

Through this year’s National Arts Month celebration, we hope to actively engage individuals and communities in the process of artistic creation, fostering an encounter with creative pursuits and principles.

Palapagnon api na! 🎨

!!! ATTENTION !!!

Palapagnons are invited to join this year's KOMIKS MAKING CONTEST in observance of the National Environmental Awareness Month.

CONTEST MECHANICS:

1. The contest is open to all local artists, students, out-of-school youth, government employees, and the general public in Palapag.

2. Contestants may be individuals, pairs, or groups. A pair or group contestant shall only have one entry.

3. Each entry shall be an original komiks in Waray or Tagalog, either in color or black-and-white. It shall have a minumum of 2 pages and a maximum of 4 pages, drawn on A4-sized white vellum boards using any suitable art medium. In case of digital art, it shall be printed on the same specified material.

4. The komiks may be in any art style and genre.

5. The komiks shall have a clear storyline and the minimum essential elements of a story (setting, characters, plot and conflict, and theme). The theme shall either be ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, DISASTER RESILIENCE, or CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION.

6. Plagiarism or copying of ideas or artworks of others is strictly prohibited.

7. Each entry shall be accompanied with a notarized affidavit stating the originality of the work and, in case of pair or group contestant, enumerating the names of everyone involved in the making of the entry.

8. Submission and acceptance of entries is on first-come-first-served basis from 15 to 29 November 2023 at the MDRRMO Palapag. Maximum of 10 entries only will be accepted.

9. The intellectual property rights shall remain with the authors/artists. However, upon submission to the organizers, all entries shall become properties of the MDRRMC, which shall have the right to exhibit the komiks in any manner permitted by law, except for profit purposes.

10. Judging of entries and awarding of winners shall be done on 30 November 2023.

11. Criteria for judging:
Originality - 20%
Creativity, Artistry, and Visual Appeal - 30%
Clarity of Storyline - 20%
Relevance to Theme - 30%

12. Cash prizes:
First - P20,000
Second - P15,000
Third - P10,000
Consolation prizes (good for 7) - P5,000 each
