TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
โข Due to the high pressure area over the south of Japan, PEPITO is forecast to move westward over the next 12 hours before turning west northwestward to northwestward over the Philippine Sea. On the track forecast, PEPITO may make landfall over the eastern coast of Central and/or Southern Luzon during the weekend. This tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday (18 November) afternoon or evening. Regardless of the position of the landfall point, it must be emphasized that hazards on land and coastal waters may still be experienced in areas outside the landfall point or forecast confidence cone. It must also be emphasized that the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone. Therefore, the landfall point may also shift within the range of the forecast confidence cone from the eastern coast of eastern coast of Eastern Visayas to the eastern coast of Central Luzon.
โข PEPITO is forecast to intensify into a typhoon within the next 12 hours and it may reach super typhoon category by tomorrow (16 November) evening and may possibly make landfall at peak intensity. It will continue to bring violent conditions over the coastal areas of Southern Luzon and Central Luzon until Sunday (17 November) prior to a second landfall over the eastern section of Central or Southern Luzon. A weakening trend is expected from Sunday onwards as PEPITO traverses mainland Luzon until it exits the PAR region.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 11:00 AM today.
