Showcasing their knowledge and skills on Instructional Materials Making, the 2nd year students from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) of Tarlac State University conducted an IMs Exhibit last May 5 at Room 409 of the College of Education (CoEd) Building.
Numerous traditional and non- traditional instructional materials such as dioramas, puppets, flipcharts, rope-and-pole displays, infographics using Canva, online bulletin boards using Padlet, QR codes, interactive quizzes using Kahoot!, writing boards, models, and animated videos using Powtoon were displayed and presented to a total of 187 attendees.
Mr. Mark P. Castillo, CoEd's professional education lecturer, stated that the exhibit aimed to showcase the digital and non-digital tools that are used to enhance teaching and learning made by the BEEd 2nd year students.
When asked about the goal of the said event, Mr. Castillo explained that the authentic task allowed the students to develop their transversal skills such as interpersonal communication, collaboration, and problem solving abilities as they were able to plan and organize a task which posed real-life problems or challenges.
Ms. Rona Martinez, president of BEEd 2B shared her realizations about the importance of good communication skills and building stronger relationships between her co-organizers in order to turn the event into a success.
"It's exhausting but rewarding. I see a lot of us are really doing our best for the betterment of the exhibit, and we are aiming for the best. I also see the essence of unity. Pressure was on my mind at that time, but with the help of my co-officers and co-organizers, we made it, and we are so happy for this opportunity to organize an event like this. Indeed, helping each other will lead to a successful event. It was a day full of learning and happy memories."
As a future educator, Mr. John Paul Furio, president of BEEd 2A, emphasized the importance of instructional materials as a tool for effective teaching and learning process, particularly in gaining a deeper comprehension of the courses.
"We demonstrate the IMs to the BEEd students so they may see how to create IMs effectively and examine what they should take into account because IMs plays an important role in grabbing the students' attention for learning."
Meanwhile, Ms. Katrina Santos, president of BEEd 2C, recognized the dire need for improvement in teaching through innovative IMs.
"As a future educator, we hope to be more creative in creating IMs that will support our teaching skills and deliver information to our students, since there are a lot of things to consider, such as the subject, grade level, and objective of the lesson, as well as the materials. Being a teacher is not always easy, as they know. We hope to have more patience at all times by creating a lesson plan, making IMs, delivering information to the class, and managing the classroom."
The invited student raters of the IMs exhibit received tokens of gratitude from the BEEd students.
