Philippines to Host 2026 ASEAN Tourism Forum After Formal Handover
The Philippines on Monday formally accepted the chairmanship of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco receiving a symbolic gavel from Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing during a ceremonial handover at the Johor International Convention Center.
Frasco said the Philippines would host the 29th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in the province of Cebu in January 2026, with preparatory meetings to be held in Manila and Boracay. A TRAVEX trade show and various conferences will also form part of the official ATF 2026 schedule.
“As the Philippines takes on the Chairmanship of ASEAN 2026, I invite you to join us in the Philippines for the 29th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Cebu,” Frasco told delegates at a “Love the Philippines Night” event. “It will be an opportunity not just to discuss policies, but to witness firsthand the immense potential for sustainable tourism growth in the region.”
Frasco praised Cebu as a “hallmark of unity” among communities, businesses and governments, citing it as an example of a profitable and responsible tourism model. She added that the Philippines would extend its “spirit of hospitality” to all visitors, calling the event an opportunity to strengthen regional collaboration on tourism.
The handover took place at the close of ATF 2025, which was attended by delegates from ASEAN member states as well as representatives from Japan, Russia, China and India. The Philippines’ acceptance of the ATF 2026 chairmanship underscores its commitment to bolstering regional tourism recovery and sustainable development, officials said.
