JUST IN: Tac5 Member Frenchie Mae Cumpio Disproves Policeโ€™s Claims.

A report by National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Sec. Gen. Len Olea revealed the proceedings of todayโ€™s hearing involving Frenchie Mae Cumpio.

Frenchie courageously shared her story, shedding light on the false charges against herself and Marielle Domequil. Her testimony revealed a troubling pattern of surveillance that led to a questionable raid on February 7, 2020. As a community journalist in Tacloban and a member of IAWRT and Altermidya, Frenchie made it clear that she was targeted for her important work. She presented evidence of surveillance, including a factsheet submitted to Altermidya and an alert from the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, outlining incidents from December 2019 to February 2020.

Frenchie also easily disproved the military and policeโ€™s claims about the raid, stating that operatives entered their room at 2 a.m. without any search or arrest warrant, restricting their movement. โ€œWe would have welcomed them into our room because weโ€™re not hiding anything illegal,โ€ she asserted. More evidence came to light with photos of another house raided on the same day, a place Frenchie often visited for interviews with progressive organizations. A sign outside read, โ€œPlanting of evidence is prohibited here,โ€ which spoke volumes about the intentionality behind these actions.

Frenchieโ€™s account reflects similar questionable raids from the Duterte era, exposing the troubling tactic of โ€œtanim ebidensyaโ€ or planting evidence. This practice has unfortunately led to many fabricated cases being dismissed, which highlights the need for accountability and justice.
