The UN explains: "Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large."

For over the centuries, gender equality has become a big issue in our societies. Every individual has been facing discrimination just because of who they are, who they love and what they believe. When both genders are granted equal opportunity, a society develops more successfully in all spheres. Equal rights in decision-making, health, politics, the built environment, the workplace, etc. will undoubtedly raise our society to a new level. Women staying at home used to be frowned upon in society. Girls and boys now face an equal amount of competition in the classroom. In their respective fields, they are also producing ground-breaking developments. Before getting married, more and more women are aiming for financial independence. They learn the self-assurance they need to resist tyranny and decide for themselves what is best for them.

Just like others, we are thriving for equality!

Achieving gender equality cannot be done in just a week. It takes a long process. And so even though our advocacy campaign was intended for school purposes only, we will still continue to be the voice for those who are still in silence.

This is just the beginning of our advocacy campaign to achieve gender equality for all.

It takes a lot of courage for me to become free in a cage where I kept myself for a long time–afraid to break free. I was afraid to come out of my bubbles as gender stigma creeps me out. I always think about how people would treat me if I tell them "I'm different”. But I chose to stand up and free myself.

Our sexual orientation and gender identity are fundamental parts of who we are, and neither should ever be the cause of prejudice or mistreatment.

When it comes to processing emotions there are different expecations to men and women. There have been so many times that we've seen men wanting to weep but as they are labeled as strong, fearless and independent their feelings are being invalidated and sometimes no one listens to them. Because of that, many men neglect to show their emotions because they're afraid of the repercussions. However, suppressing emotions and feelings can also be detrimental to their mental health.Crying is better than toxic masculinity as toxic masculinity is just based on ego, insecurity and immaturity. Don't be afraird to show what you truly feel, don't hesitate to open up yourself to othes. Discrimination towards gender became more challenging having unequal rights to every gender.

That's why in order for them to have basic rights, there must be a law that can protect them regardless of their gender. To achieve gender equality the Philippine constitution set the rights of every individual recognizing the LGBTQ+ as an equal and ensure that their rights are protected.

The bill is not only punitive, but more importantly, is preventive. It orders the inclusion of SOGIE concerns in all police station activities and services, with the renaming of the Women and Children’s Desks to Women, Children, and LGBTQ++ Protection Desk, and the imposition of human rights-based training on the police. It directs the promotion of nondiscrimination through social protection and diversity programs, and even incentivizes the positive portrayal of the LGBTQ++ in the media. A SOGIE Equality Oversight Committee shall be created to effectively implement the Act.

There are issues that each one of us is still continuing to experience, some of these are sexism and gender discrimination on a global scale that immensely affect women. Women's cases of domestic and sexual violence, lower wages, limited access to education, and insufficient healthcare are all rooted in gender inequality. Here are the problems that most women in the Philippines have been facing for decades:

One in four Filipino women ages 15-49 has experienced physical, emotional, or sexual violence by their husband or partner.

The Philippine Statistics Authority reported an increase in cases of r**e from 1, 656 in 2018 to 2, 168 in 2020 which is. 23.61% increase.

11% of women agree that a husband is justified in beating his wife for any of the following reasons: neglects children, goes out without telling him, argues with him, refuses sexual in*******se, burns food.

The country's female labor force participation is the lowest in Southeast Asia at just 46 percent, despite its high female education levels. It is also considered one of the most dangerous places in Asia for women, with harassment and assault laws poorly enforced or ignored.

𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖?
Philippines ranked 117th out of 202 countries and territories as ideal destinations for gay travelers. A pretty low rank after being considered an oasis for the LGBTQ+. According to studies, some of these gay-friendly countries are Canada, New Zealand, Iceland, Greece, France, Thailand, etc.

Only 17% of Filipino companies as of date are inclusive companies and have a semblance of policies that accept LGBTQ individuals. (2018).

In terms of workplace inclusivity, 25% of the LGBTQ+ respondents have experienced harassment from their employers while 60% have been the subject of jokes and slurs.

As shown in the picture, we can clearly see that children are also experiencing Sexual Violence. About eight out of ten LGBTQ+ respondents reported physical or psychological abuse. While more than a third reported that they were sexually violated.

People inside the LGBTQ+ community have a higher prevalence of experiencing violence in our society. There are many ways in which abusers control their victims regardless of gender preference.
