POV: You’re a beauty editor going on a family weekend swim. ☀️😅

A quick sunscreen crash course: A common question we get about sunscreen is about SPF. SPF or Sun Protection Factor only applies to UVB and it simply measures the span of time that your sunscreen will work in preventing sunburn. For instance, if it takes 10 minutes before you burn under the sun, your SPF 30 sunscreen will protect you from UVB for more or less 300 minutes. What works against UVA, which is the really more harmful ray that penetrates the skin deeper and makes you age is the PA level or its broad-spectrum protection.

Physical/ mineral sunscreens that block UVA are as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and chemical sunscreens that absorb and scatter UVA like avobenzone, oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate. Broad spectrum sunscreens protect from both UVB and UVA. The highest PA level is PA++++ which means the sunscreen provides top protection against UVA.

What’s your favorite sunscreen? ⬇️

Jo Malone London’s newest Cologne Intense drop, Hinoki & Cedarwood, is perhaps the least “intense” in the collection which makes it a great entry for lovers of the original and transparent Jo Malone colognes into this richer, more precious collection. This is not to say Hinoki & Cedarwood is light though—it is very opaque, long-lasting, full-bodied, “intensely fresh.”

Non-linear, this is a unique and aromatic take on Hinoki, and truly unlike every other hinoki scent product we have. It’s a perfect balance of sweet and sharp. Combined with clean notes on top, lavender and clove at the heart, and amber and cedarwood at the base, this delivers a nice, fresh, almost aldehyde-y finish.

It didn’t come as a surprise this is by perfumer Anne Flipo (alongside Jo Malone London’s Celine Roux), one of our most favorite perfumers whose work in green and aromatic scents is truly distinct. There is no work of hers we didn’t adore. Being quite a soapy scent, this is a bit of a deviation fro her usual intensely green perfumes but her signature is here and we love it.

We enjoyed the launch of this—another fantastic concept by Jo Malone London 👏

It’s always a joy for us at The Beauty Edit to be part of things that make people feel good. We enjoyed helping organize this beauty and wellness mixer for Entrepreneurs’ Organization with some of the country’s most impactful and influential business leaders.

Special thanks to our guest speakers and partners for making our activities happen! From Svenson’s scalpcare talk and scalp analysis sessions and Bernadette Lim’s workshop on scenting the home to Ingrid Nieto’s color analysis and the power of knowing your season and Dr. Anna Rufino and Dr. Isa Imperial’s learning session on discovering your true skin type.

We had the best time curating kits and prizes filled with products we love from Shiseido, Cle de Peau Beaute, Jo Malone London, Happy Skin, Narciso Rodriguez, Hello Glow, Spotlight Cosmetics, Hyaloo, Ever Bilena, among many others. Thank you to our partners for always supporting us in the things we do and all we aspire to become, and of course EO/SLP for making us a part of this. ✨

When the French fashion house dropped “Paco” from its name, it also marked a pivotal moment for the brand as it became “simplified and more international in spirit.” This is evident in Rabanne’s new renditions of its Million fragrances. Meet Million Gold EDP and Million Gold For Her–ultra-sophisticated scents that elevate the collection from designer to high perfumery.

Million Gold EDP is for men, although anyone can enjoy wearing it. The citrus opening gives it an energetic, bold start before the woody, spicy facets become prominent in the drydown. It uses a sensual sandalwood, a niche ingredient in perfumery, blended with cedarwood, reminiscent of 1 Million’s signature mandarin. The amber accord adds a rich depth, balanced by cardamom oil, and the brightness of bergamot. A hint of Rose Absolute brings a honeyed floral sweetness, while Pink Peppercorn CO2 adds the touch of spice. Rounding it all off, cinnamon bark oil lends the warm, “cooked apple facets” of the fragrance. Interestingly, this fragrance also includes Akigalawood, known to be a signature note of its creator, master perfumer Quentin Bisch. It is a unique ingredient, “obtained using Bioscience,” according to Rabanne, which “brings a vibrancy and elegant trail.”

Million Gold for Her is a incredible and impressive fragrance–still possessing the Million for Her DNA but also distinct and different. It’s a sparkling rose, creamy musk, addicting vanilla all at once. This is Rabanne’s first-ever ‘Grand Floral.’ Everything is taken up a notch: “At the top, an exclusive co-distillate of tailor-made Lavender Oil x Tonkalactone with an addictive, creamy facet, meets hand-pressed Mandarin Oil from Madagascar and biotech molecule, Pearadise. At the heart, the perfumers blended renewable Rose Oxide L, Ylang-Ylang Complete Oil Madagascar, Jasmine Coeur de Saison.” An extra special note: Mineral Moss Accord with Ecomusk R and Vanilla Bourbon Absolute from Madagascar, a sustainably-grown vanilla from Fairtrade-certified smallholder organizations that respect biodiversity and help improve the lives of the local women. What’s more, this fragrance contains the finest ingredients of 90% natural origin✨

Empowered women empowering others 💪✨. In our recent edition of The Editor’s Room featuring , we gathered an incredible group of women, each with their own stories of strength, resilience, and courage. Through learning, laughter, and many heartfelt moments that day, we connected over what it truly means to be an empowered woman today.

We’ve always believed an empowered woman isn’t defined by one thing; she is many things. She is so much more than just her accomplishments—she’s someone who faces obstacles head-on, owns her story, takes on challenges with grace, and lifts others up in her journey.

Every woman in the room brought something special to the event–her own spirit, her own journey, and her own definition of empowerment. It was a joy to see how everyone connected, shared, and uplifted each other, reminding us that an empowered woman isn’t just one who rises or stands strong by herself—she is someone who brings others with her.

As we celebrated together, we took a moment to appreciate the NIVEA Super 10 Body Serum, a little reminder of how important self-care is 💆🏻‍♀️

Here’s to all the rising superwomen out there–one dream, one goal, and one vision at a time. 🦸‍♀️✨

Attention to detail, dedication, and shared values. At The Beauty Edit, no project is ever a simple task, but the people we collaborate with definitely make the journey smoother and more enjoyable. Superwoman Rising with Nivea has been one of the largest and most exciting events we’ve ever had the pleasure of working on. In partnership with and , we truly felt like Superwomen ourselves throughout the entire process. The success of this special collaboration was undoubtedly driven by the incredible women behind it—empowered, passionate, and determined.

While our guests thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtfully curated activities, the real joy was in the planning. Each detail was meant to educate, inspire, entertain, empower–from the Super 10 Snapshots, a way to celebrate guests and where they are in their journeys and the My Superpowers vision board, where they put together a visual representation of their your goals and dreams to the Super 10 Match, where they learned more about the Nivea Super 10 Body Serum and all the other must-try products from the brand in a fun memory game.

The talks by 4 women from different industries were especially moving. Flight attendant and now content creator Jen Barangan shared her journey through finding means in trying times to thriving in her chosen path. Tattoo and visual artist, mom, and all-around creative Wiji Lacsamana talked about taking the road less traveled and pursuing multiple passions that fuel her creative career. Singer-songwriter Nica Del Rosario takes us into her world, dominated by men, and tells us about pursuing her passions, managing a day job, and persevering through a tough industry. Mae Layug showed us how it is being a woman with a vision, having the drive to succeed and the heart to give back through her brand GRWM, and beyond.

This definitely was a dream project. We will always be grateful to Nivea, a legacy brand we have long loved and used, for making us part of it. ✨

What does it mean to be a Superwoman? 🦸🏻‍♀️ In this edition of The Editor’s Room with called Superwoman Rising, we learned from four exemplary women the many faces—and phases—that make her. ✨

shared the vulnerabilities behind the glitz and glam of her millions-followed social media pages. When the aviation industry went down in the pandemic, Jen feared she’d lose her followers—just as she’d lost her job. But she was always one to rise—and fall, and rise again, with her grit, discipline, and perseverance, and she soon realized that her fans don’t follow her because of her job, but because of who she is, and how she’s always fought for herself. 💪🏻

Multi-passionate is fearless in pursuing her dreams. Unable to keep a 9-to-5 desk job for more than six months, she started thinking something was wrong with her. Until she started to actively pursue what made her heart sing: tattooing, graphic art, writing, astrology, and a whole lot more. “Rejection is redirection,” she says. “If you don’t know what you want (yet), know what you don’t want.” 🎨

, who’s made a name for herself in the male-dominated music industry reminds us: “It’s okay to take up space.” Her award-winning hits aside, she considers her personal milestones as her wins: moving out, getting married. As a singer-songwriter, for Nica, success is when her songs make people feel that they’re not alone in what they’re going through. (We were all moved to hear her own rendition of Tala!) 🥹

GRWM founder has always been a walking success story, building her brand from the ground up and growing her company from 11 to 100+ employees. Yet behind all the “wins” what’s most amazing is how Mae never strays away from what she values: giving back, supporting causes, and opening doors of opportunity for others. 💄

It was truly an honor to be in the presence of these four women who are “super” in their own ways and in their own industries. Being a Superwoman, we are reminded, is about rooting for yourself, through the ups and downs, and never straying from your heart, goals, and dreams. Here’s to cheering for the super in you—in all of us! 🥂

Is it more of a primer? A tint? A foundation? A sunscreen? Multi-function products have always had us skeptical—does it truly function as everything it claims without compromising performance? .ph’s Foundation Primer SPF50 PA+++ exists to dispel all doubts and make us believe!

This viral sunscreen tint was first introduced to us by our friend, beauty director Agoo Bengzon, and we immediately added to cart upon her recommendation.

It’s the perfect tint with a soft matte finish. The coverage is great for everyday use—it’s lightweight, buildable, and comfortable. It controls excess oil and conceals pores and redness. the fact it has SPF50 PA+++ means it’s actually also sunscreen with the ideal protection for daily use as well. We love this, and other than more shades (please!), we can’t ask for anything more!

It’s been a year since Ormonde Jayne, the niche London-based fragrance house, made its debut in the Philippines at .ph Founded in 2000 by Linda Pilkington, the brand is rooted in a philosophy that refers to the golden age of perfumery—an era when fragrance crafting was a meticulous art. Its absolutes and essential oils are infused for months before filtration, then left to mature, resulting in richer, more intricate compositions. We can say that this commitment to tradition and craftsmanship is evident in every Ormonde Jayne perfume we have tried with fragrances of exceptional depth and quality.

Its perfumes are wearable yet distinctive, making them a joy to experience for collectors and also a great entry to niche perfumery for anyone.

Frangipani starts our brighty and citrusy before it becomes fresh and floral. At its heart, the lush, creamy frangipani flower is complemented by delicate notes of jasmine, magnolia, and lime peel, which we think accounts for its tropical scent. The blend is grounded by soft amber and musk, giving it a warm, lingering sophisticated finish.

Ormonde Woman is one of the brand’s earlier scents created in 2003. This is a great everyday scent for those who want to leave a delicate yet lasting impression. It opens with notes of fresh grass oil and cardamom, setting the stage for a dark, woody heart of black hemlock, a rare and intriguing ingredient that adds depth and allure. Violet, jasmine, and amber give the fragrance a soft floral touch, while a base of cedar, sandalwood, and moss provides an earthy, grounding finish. This aromatic scent is unconventional and utterly refined.

Arabesque is a personal favorite—a stunning rose oud and amber gourmand masterpiece. The notes are so seamlessly blended, it’s hard to pinpoint individual notes, yet they come together in perfect harmony. The top notes feature blackcurrant, Italian bergamot, black pepper, and saffron, leading into a heart of jasmine and rose absolute. At its “soul,” as the brand describes, lie rich layers of musk, moss, patchouli, and oud. The scent lingers and blooms and becomes you throughout the day. This can be a super statement scent. We know it’s ours.

Clinique is a brand many of us have known for decades. It’s a brand I hold key memories of growing up–it was my first premium moisturizer (and I believed it was truly Dramatically Different) and my first face powder (in that iconic green marble case!). After co-hosting this get-together in The Editor’s Room with , I realized that most of us had similar stories. While this iconic brand will always be the Clinique we knew (allergy-tested, fragrance-free products for all skin types), there truly is more to know. This is what we also wanted our friends in The Beauty Edit community to discover about the Smart Clinical Repair line.

One of the stars of this line is the Smart Clinical Repair serum, which apart from peptides, features a next generation 1% retinoid with HPR (Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate). Here’s where we get a little nerdy. Retinoids have long been the gold standard for anti-aging, but traditional forms like retinol require a multi-step conversion process to become active. Every form must convert to retinoic acid before it can be utilized. Retinol esther must first convert to retinol, then to retinaldehyde, then to retinoic acid, before it can work its magic on fine lines and wrinkles. The more conversions, the gentler but also the less potent it becomes.

Unlike traditional retinol, Clinique’s HPR is bioavailable in its active form, allowing it to deliver anti-aging benefits—smoother texture, reduced lines, and improved skin clarity—without the need to convert. It can be applied twice a day, offering fast-acting results that are gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Paired with Clinique’s commitment to safety—through rigorous testing, research collaborations, and dermatological expertise—it’s a leap forward in retinoid technology.

We are lucky to have our resource doctor, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mitch Tanchiong, help us understand how peptides and retinoids work. Thrilled to also have a special guest fly in just for this workshop, Clinique’s Educational Director Randolph Cheung. Grateful to our guests who arrived ready to learn as much as have fun and for the special silk treats!

The Preview team keeps outdoing themselves every year! As the brand celebrates its 29th year, it chooses to highlight authenticity and being true to oneself in this grand party. It was fun, of course, but more than that it was impactful and true to its mission. Congratulations, , , and !
