These objectives are achieved through three primary functions: research, guidance, and support to governments in the adoption and implementation of various crime, drugs, terrorism, and corruption-related conventions, treaties, and protocols, as well as technical and financial assistance to governments in these fields.
The national youth anti-drugs media campaign's purpose is to educate and empower young people in the United States to reject illicit substances.
The campaign was intended to be a complete social marketing effort directed at teenagers aged 9 to18, their parents, and other prominent people with anti-drug messaging. From September 1999 through June2004, the campaign purchased advertising across several media venues, with the expectation that a young person would see 2.5 targeted ads each week on average.
The youth-targeted ads fell into three categories:(1) resistance skills and self-efficacy, which aimed to improve youths' skill and confidence in their ability to reject drug use;(2) normative education and positive alternatives, which emphasized the benefits of not using drugs; and(3) negative consequences of drug use.
