Of Askals and Aspins

I came across an article the other week about the beloved askal (asong kalye), and how scientists found that western breeds seem to have genes originating from our native dogs.

Of course, this didn't escape the watchful eyes of some of their followers. They commented using aspin (asong pinoy) is more apt.

So, I have this brilliant idea.

Why not simpy call our furbabies asong local, or asol for short? This way, whenever our pet suddenly darts out of our home and onto the street, we just call them back with, "Hey, asol! Yes, you. Come here!"

I can only imagine your neighbor's reaction if your dog wanders near their house while you're calling them out. Yes, the very same neighbor who burns their trash and dried leaves for you to savor lovingly. Or the one who occasionally holds videoke marathons til the wee hours. They seem to find an occasion to celebrate every weekend.

As I said, brilliant.
