With the primary intent of informing the public of and engaging them in the programs and projects of the Department of Education (DepEd) through the full utilization of varied and appropriate print and non-print media, DepEd Quezon invited all designated District Information Coordinators (DICs) to attend a coordination meeting via Zoom, July 20.

Dr. Oscar Duma Jr, Senior Education Program Specialist and Division Information Coordinator, reiterated the Division’s commitment to the implementation of Regional Memorandum No. 336, s. 2020 (Creation of DepEd Tayo pages in the School Level) and DepEd Memorandum No. 017, s. 2021 (Designation of School Information Coordinators).

The 56 DICs were reoriented on the field coordinators’ roles and functions, reminded on how to effectively manage the district and school DepEd Tayo page and other official platforms, and updated on the 2023 Advancing Leaders’ Information and Technology Advocacy for the Public (ALITAPTAP) Awards.

Dr. Herbert Perez, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, delivered encouraging words for the participants, highlighting the importance of disseminating DepEd-relevant information to school stakeholders. #

Relative to the nationwide transport strike of Jeepney Operators and Drivers on March 6-10, 2023, all affected schools shall shift from face-to-face classes to distance learning modalities (modular, online distance learning, or other appropriate distance learning modality), while those not affected shall have the usual face-to-face classes.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱.

All school heads of AFFECTED SCHOOLS are directed to communicate the shift in distance learning modalities to all stakeholders through the official school FB page (DepEd Tayo), virtual meetings, and posting of announcements at school gates and/or other conspicuous places. They shall ensure that learning materials, such as but not limited to SLMs, contextualized learning materials, activity sheets, and other exercises shall be made available to the affected learners. They shall establish a monitoring mechanism to continuously ensure quality learning during this period.

All affected schools shall submit the school plan and contingencies to the SDO-SGOD until tomorrow (Monday, March 6) which will be for consolidation and reporting to the RO.

With the theme “ANI NG SINING, BUNGA NG GALING “ students of LNCHS displayed their works of art in LIKHA GALLERY located at Vera Hall. True to his passion for empowering aspiring young artists, Mr. Marmelo Valencia, founder and adviser of LIKHA, mentored arts enthusiasts from the school who had showcased their works alongside his own master pieces. Different techniques in painting have been instilled among the mentees which greatly helped them in expressing their ideas.

Mrs. Meilani L. Adan, Public Schools District Supervisor of Lopez West District, graced the event and cut the ribbon to signify the commencement of the exhibit. She congratulated Mr. Valencia and the whole MAPEH Department for the successful event. She also commended the young artists for their “galing” in visual arts and performing arts.

The event proved to be not just an avenue for young artists to showcase their talents. It served its purpose of underscoring the capacity of arts to heal, rebuild and restore (as what this year’s theme states) in a post-pandemic setting. +++

Labis ang pagka-‘hook’ ng mga mag-aaral ni Sir Michael Ayore Royo o mas kilala sa tawag na Teacher Khel mula sa Pagbilao National High School nang siya ay pumasok sa kanyang English class suot ang costume ng Disney character na si Captain Hook.

Dahil sa kanyang patok na gimik, agad na nag-viral ito at natampok sa iba’t ibang mga media outlets tulad ng Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo; GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog; GMA News GTV; at CNN Philippines.

Kinapanayam din siya ng ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya at DZRH upang alamin ang kwento sa likod ng kanyang viral na costume.
Naniniwala si Teacher Khel na magiging makabuluhan at engaging ang teaching-learning process kung ganap na mapupukaw at mapapanatili ang interes ng mga mag-aaral. At ito rin ang kanyang dahilan kung bakit madalas siyang nag-iisip at gumagawa ng iba’t ibang gimik sa kanyang klase.

“Kailangan po talaga maging motivated ang ating mga bata sa pagpasok sa paaralan at pag-attend ng mga klase, lalo na po at galing tayo ng pandemya,” ani ni Teacher Khel sa isang panayam.

Ayon kay Teacher Khel, ang kanyang mga istratehiya sa pagtuturo ay ibinabase niya sa interes at karanasan ng kanyang mag-aaral kaya minsan na rin siyang nagbihis bilang isang news reporter, chef at judge na talaga namang kinagiliwan din ng kanyang mga mag-aaral.

“As class adviser at g**o, makikita mo kung ano ang kailangan nila (mag-aaral). After knowing their stories, mauunawaan mo ang behavior nila. So pwedeng from their experience, ibabase mo yung activity. Ipapasok natin yung lesson sa experiences ng mga bata. From there, we can design activities that would not just fit their interest but their needs,” dagdag pa niya.

Dahil sa pagiging inobatibo at malikhaing g**o, minsan na rin siyang na-feature sa isang balita sa telebisyon. Sa katunayan, ang kanyang ‘Captain Hook attire’ ay hindi ang unang beses na gawaing pampaaralan na naitampok sa iba’t ibang balita. Ibinida rin sa GMA News and Public Affairs Newsfeed ang ‘bilao superhero costumes’ na nilikha naman ng kaniyang mga mag-aaral para sa kanilang culminating activity. Bukod sa bilao na iniugnay sa pagdiriwang ng pista ng Pagbilao, gumamit din ang mga mag-aaral recyclable materials upang mapayabong ang kanilang pagiging mapamaraan at pagkamalikhain.

Nagamit na rin ni Teacher Khel sa kanyang pagtuturo ang mga linya ng iba’t ibang karakter sa Mobile Legends na sikat sa mga kabataan ngayon. Higit pa rito, madalas din niyang magamit ang kanyang mga natutunan at karanasan sa teatro tuwing gumaganap siya ng iba’t ibang karakter sa harap ng kanyang mga mag-aaral.

“Meron kasing mga time na wala tayong materials lagi at medyo mahal din, so may time na ako ay uma-act gamit ang background ko sa theatre. So minsan, makikita mo ako naka-uniform pero magtotonong Chinese ako. Tapos papasukan ko ng astrology na konektado sa lesson,” pagbabahagi ni Teacher Khel.

Sa pamamagitan ng ganitong pamamaraan, naging ganado at bigay-todo ang partisipasyon ng mga mag-aaral ni Teacher Khel na nagbunga ng matataas na iskor at malalim na lebel na pagkatuto ng mga mag-aaral.

Sa kabilang banda, bukod sa pagtalakay sa mga essential competencies, binibigyang halaga rin ni Teacher Khel ang pagkikintal ng mabuting asal at pagtuturo ng mga life skills na magagamit ng mga mag-aaral sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay.

“Hindi naman basta matatandaan ng bata ang technical aspects ng ating tinuturo. So ‘yung tehnical aspects, hanapan natin kung paano mai-integrate yung values integration at basic life skills,” paliwanag ni Teacher Khel.

Dagdag pa ni Teacher Khel, hindi biro ang pagbuo ng konsepto at paggawa ng kagamitang panturo sapagkat ito ay lubos niyang pinagtutuunan ng atensyon at pinaggugugulan ng oras. Sa kabila nito, ang makitang masayang natututo ang mga mag-aaral ang nagtutulak sa kanya upang magpatuloy.

Kakaiba at makabago kung ilarawan ng ilan ang ginagawang effort ni Teacher Khel sa kaniyang klase. Subalit para sa mga taong higit na nakakakilala sa kanya, hindi ito bago sapagkat ito ay karaniwang na niyang ginagawa sa loob ng sampung taong karanasan niya sa pagtuturo at simula pa noong siya’y nasa kolehiyo pa lamang. Sa katunayan, dahil sa kanyang husay sa pagpapakitang-turo sa kolehiyo ginawaran siya ng “Best Student Teacher Award.”

Sa tulong ng teknolohiya at internet, maraming inobatibong paraan upang mabigyang sigla ang bawat araw ng pagpasok ng mga mag-aaral sa paaralan. Subalit ang kahandaan, pagkamalikhain at dedikasyon pa rin ng isang g**o ang tulay sa matagumpay na pagkatuto ng mga mag-aaral.

In connection with the implementation of Project APPRAISE 2023 (Applying Results-oriented Assessment for Improved School Effectiveness), the School Governance and Operations Division-School Management Monitoring and Evaluation (SGOD-SMME) conducted an in-person year-end reporting and planning meeting on Project APPRAISE 2023 and information management with the M&E core group at M.I. Sevilla’s Farm and Resort, Lucena City, January 13-14.

On the first day, Senior Education Program Specialist Dr. Oscar R. Duma Jr. welcomed the participants composed of select teachers and school heads. He presented as well the statement of purpose. SEPS Duma expounded on the group’s key function: being the SMME section’s support group in the implementation of M&E programs and projects, including the Division information function.

Outgoing PREFiC President Edmond J. Malihan, on the other hand, presented the core team’s accomplishments through a video presentation, followed by an evaluation of the 2022 Project APPRAISE activities for continuous improvement.

The team also elected its new set of officers, namely: Braulio B. Ruelo Jr. (President), Raenel P. Rodil (Vice President), Aivie Abracia-Rabe (Secretary), Sherry Ann R. Casapao (Treasurer), Maricel C. Andes (Auditor), Charisse Joyce D. Enriquez and Edmond J. Malihan (Public Information Officers), Realou E. Ańoso (Muse) and John Mark V. Arche (Es**rt).

During the afternoon session, SEPS Duma presented the proposed M&E activities for fiscal year 2023. Subsequently, a focus group discussion (FGD) on the lessons learned was carried out. The drafting of the Action Plan was facilitated by Education Program Specialist II Dr. Maria Bernadit M. Tupas.

The critiquing and finalization of the Action Plan, as well as the presentation of the approved budget for fiscal year 2023 were the main activities on the second day. SEPS Duma and EPS II Tupas gave their feedback and offered significant inputs for the improvement of the team’s action plan.

The two-day activity came to its conclusion through a short program facilitated by Mr. Jeric V. Prudente.

EPS II Tupas delivered the closing remarks where she thanked all the members of the group for their support, commitment, and significant contribution to the success of the SMME section’s forefront project- Project APPRAISE during the fiscal year 2022.
