Long or Lung (Chinese Dragon) is a mythical creature that has an important roles in ancient Chinese civilization to this present. In Chinese feudal society, Chinese Dragon symbolizes the power, the strength, the sovereignty of emperors, and everything related to it was exclusively for emperors. The ancient emperors called their sons "seeds of dragons" as well as their robes were "dragon robes", and their chairs were "dragons chairs".
WHY DRAGON?
It symbolizes good fortune.
For this reason, this symbol is very popular at weddings and other celebrations to encourage happiness and good luck.
They believe dragon figurines should put near the source of water at home to attract wealth.
Filipino culture has an influence of Chinese culture that's why Filipinos used to utilize "Angpao" sometimes heard as "ampao" (hongbao in Mandarin or ang pow in Hokkien) a bright red envelope where Ninangs and Ninongs put monetary gifts for their Godchildren.
