Paolo Duterte To France Castro: Have Same Passion To Protect NPA Victims

Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte on Thursday expressed his hope that ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro would have the passion to protect innocent civilians killed by the New People’s Army (NPA).

“I just wish na sana yung passion mo to sensationalize this further is the same as your passion to protect the farmers and innocent victims na pinatay at biktima ng mga NPA,” said Duterte in response to the latest remark of Castro.

Duterte earlier said that public servants should not be onion-skinned and should not make use of the right to file complaints as a tool to silence their critics. He made the statement after Castro filed grave threat charges against his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Castro responded to Rep. Duterte’s that criticism and death threats are two different things.

“It is imperative upon me to stand by my family and protect my family. I think kahit sino naman, ganun ang gagawin. That’s where I’m coming from,” the younger Duterte explained.

The lawmaker said that Castro should let the court look at the merits of the complaints.

“You filed a case, let the court look at the merits. Simple as that. Gaya ng sinabi ko, it is your right. But I heard worse,” Rep. Duterte said.

Rep. Duterte earlier noted that his father has received “harsher and more humiliating criticisms in the past but he never filed a case against anyone.”

“As public servants, we all are under scrutiny by the Filipino people. If the former President has said something that threatened her, then maybe she should come out clean,” he said in an earlier statement.

Thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza sought refuge in the southern part of the territory on Saturday, following Israel's warning of an imminent ground offensive against Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning that the recent intense bombing is just the beginning of Israel's retaliation after Hamas militants killed more than 1,300 people a week ago.

The Israeli army conducted "localized" raids in Gaza to clear the area of terrorists while searching for missing persons.

Israel on Saturday was making preparations for a ground assault in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, instructing Palestinians in the densely populated area to move south toward the closed border with Egypt.

This comes after Hamas's violent attack on Israeli towns a week ago, resulting in casualties and hostages.

Gaza authorities have reported over 2,200 casualties, including a quarter being children, with nearly 10,000 wounded as rescue workers race to find survivors amid nighttime air raids.
