Truth behind what creeps within
By: Jude Ann Cañanes
Sexual violence is defined as sexual activity when consent is not obtained or not freely given regardless of the relationship to the victim. It impacts every community and affects people of all gender and ages.
Even with the unjustifiable act, sexual violence and harassment is common, around the world every 1 in 5 women and 1 in 4 men experienced it involving physical contact or sexual advances.
In 2019 more women were r***d, physically exploited and trafficked, according to the latest data obtained by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
As of February 2020 data, around 420 women were victims of trafficking in 2019, a 66.7 percent increase from 252 women in 2018 data.
According to United Nations Convention in the Rights of Child (UNCRC), 7 million children are sexually abuse every year in the Philippines, 98% of sexually abused are girls.
Law officers and statistics may not capture the true number of cases of sexual violences and harassment, because majority of the victims do not report their assualt to law enforcement.
It is not easy for the victims to move forward and voice out, they don't report because of fear of retaliation, having no trust to law, and they're afraid about not being believed and misjudged.
Make an intervention to prevent sexual violence before it happens and become worse. It is everyone's responsibility to prevent sexual violence, we all have a role in fostering a safe environment.
Sexual harassment and violence can be prevented, let's all work together and take action. Listen to the victims, show compassion, and offer support. Make your voice heard, make a difference.

Fed-up
Written By: ndzlk0104
she wakes up
takes a bath,
wears something that pop
walks the path
and gets harassed—
no, the story shouldn't be like that.
again, she aroused from sleep
wears pants and hoodie
but still gets stares from creeps
and followed by rapists—
no, it shouldn't be like that!
again, she roused herself,
went down to watch television.
cooked breakfast for herself,
when her drunk uncle appeared in her vision;
whom she walked past
however still gets harassed—
cut. it shouldn't be like that!
and again, she woke up and stayed in gloom,
didnt take a bath,
didnt even went outside her room.
a person whom she trusts,
still gets his hands on her pants.
stop! up to when will this last?
catcallings aren't compliments
with any cover up, but still gets these treatments.
with all these dog-like stares
and wolf whistles,
is it fair to get harassed for walking a little?
it is traumatic,
it isn't cool.
slim or thick,
catcallings are from fools.
stilettos, dresses
aren't a 'yes'.
maybe a sense of fashion,
but will never be a permission.
and to add a note,
don't tell her how to dress.
instead, teach him
how to think nasty thoughts less.

Opening up to someone about being a victim of sexual harassment is never easy. It takes a lot of trust and strength to do so. Offer time to listen and keep his/her vulnerable side between the both of you. He/she might know what to do, but not who to trust.
18/11/2020
Sexual harassment can happen to anybody; any gender. Catcalling isn't an exemption. It can also take place anywhere. Even in your circle of friends, inside the house—anywhere. Stop tolerating it.
